Wheelie Wednesday - Herbs and Flowers

Hi everyone! It's me, Autumn reporting from the garden once again!

I just can't get enough of the garden! So many beautiful things are in bloom and the herbs smell so good!

This herb is thyme and mom actually dries this one and uses it, mostly on fish recipes! I just love how it creeps all over the garden!
This one is sage and we use it for pork chops! It smells so good! I love burying my nose deep into the plant!

The plant I'm sniffing now is called chervil. It smells sort of like a lemony-liquorice. Mom doesn't use this one to cook with but you can. She likes it because it grows about 2 feet tall and has the prettiest little white flowers and before too long these flowers go to seed and new chervil plants spring up all over the garden!

To my right is chives and they'll be blooming a pretty purple flower any day now! Mom makes chive vinegar with these! You take a whole bunch of these purple flowers with their long chives stems and put them in a pretty bottle that contains white vinegar and cork up the top. The chives turn the vinegar a lovely shade of pink! A little bit of olive oil and a couple of shakes of chive vinegar and you have a delicious salad dressing! BTW, that's Rusty, the garden Schnauzer and that angel behind me is offering me a drink of water! The garden is such a delightful place to hang out!
The iris are beginning to bloom! I just love the purple ones!

This plant is called gas plant because the leaves, flowers and star-shaped seed pods give off a strong lemon-scented vapor, which on hot summer nights flashes when ignited with a match, harmless to the plant. We've never tried it before but we'll take their word for it!

This one is mom's very favorite flower in the whole wide world - the Oriental poppy! She just loves its vibrant delicate tissue paper look with its blue-black center! It's a stunning flower to see in person! We have salmon colored poppies and even a lavender colored one but the orange one is the favorite!

And here are the Lupines! They're another plant that self-sows all over the garden! They're wonderful old fashioned flowers in the pea family. We don't eat them though!

I hope everyone enjoyed 2 garden postings with me! I just can't seem to get enough of the garden! After being cooped up in the house all winter long, it's nice to get outside and enjoy the beauty!

See you next Wednesday!

Love,

Autumn

  5. Hello Autumn

You certainly look as if you are going to have your paws full with all the gardening tasks now.

How do you manage to stay so clean and elegant whilst walking through the garden, we always seem to end up with muddy paws!

We have our lupins in pots, as are a lot of our hoomans' flowers.......something to do with big paws and charging around............never quite worked that out!!

Please tell Maggie and Mitch that I've opened an album up on Blogger for pictures of the Exchange. It's at www.goodyexchange.blogspot.com

It's for pictures of everyone when they get their goodies in the mail. So when the pictures are posted to your blog, they should send me a comment and I'll copy and paste them to the album.

Geez, we didn't include our Wheelyfriends in the Exchange ... next time, Autumn, I promise!

Please have M and M send this message to their partner, Ok?

  36. Your garden is so pretty. Our poppies are just starting to bloom and we're starting to see peonies. Mom says I cannot pee on them. What? Are they not specifically for peeing?

Moms have about 1000 square feet of community garden space and they have dedicated a bit of it to my butternut squashes and zucchinis!

I am also jealous of your blue skies.

  39. Arooo rooo rooo Autumn! You are quite the gardener. Our mom loved each and every photo and the narrative that went with them. Gabe and I liked seeing the outdoor photos but I have to tell you, Gabe and I don't garden very well. Gabe lifts his leg on mom's plants and I just tend to lay down in the middle of the flowers. I'm kinda big sooooo...well...you get the picture.

We hope you'll give us a garden tour again!

  40. Thank you for that lovely tour of your garden!! You've got some flowers that we've never seen before. Grandma's chives have the purple flowers on them, so we'll have to try the vinegar/salad dressing idea. Our irises are also blooming.

We think your mom should write a cookbook! She seems to have lots of good cooking tips. I'm sure you have delicious meals at your house!

  42. Oh Amber,

The Mommmy just loved this post. She has always loved flowers..but she kills almost everything and you look so precious rolling around in the garden.

    Hi M & M,

Has your Mommy ever posted had any basil plants? The Mommy loves fresh basil in everything. That chive vinegar sounds wonderful...she wishs she had some cause she loves salads.

Love ya Mona & the Mommy too!!
