Baking with Mom

Mom and dad attended pawties this past weekend! Saturday they pawtied with Sarah who is leaving to go to Scotland for 5 years to study to become a vet! Mom baked the Army of Four's Lemon Oatmeal bars! Mitch has no problem sucking on lemons but you all know that I absolutely HATE them to pieces!

We both got to lick the batter off the spoon before they went into the oven and unfortunately mom didn't take a picture of them when they came out of the oven! They were very, very yummy and there wasn't one left when mom and dad left the pawty Saturday night!

Sunday morning mom made blueberry buckle for Scot's pawty! Scot is leaving for college any day now! We both got a taste of this batter too!

Somebody has to do the job so we sort of appointed ourselves official taste testers! You can't see it but mom is holding 2 spoons in her hand. One is the batter and the other one is the batter topping! We both sampled each spoon to make sure it's fit for Scot's guests!

This is the blueberry buckle just out of the oven!

We're hoping that when mom cuts into it we can each have a taste!

We got our wish! Can you see the buckle in Mitch's mouth?

Open wide! Here it comes!

Here's the recipe if anyone would like it~

Blueberry Buckle

Cream by hand 1/4 cup shortening, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1/2 cup milk, 1 1/2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Mix in 1 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries!

Spread into a greased 13" X 9" pan and sprinkle with crumb mixture.

Crumb mixture: 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 cup shortening.

Bake 350 degrees for about 30 minutes our until the edges turn brown. Cool and eat! yum

So until next time.............

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

  10. Maggie and Mitch you are very lucky dogs! Oooohhh yummy! Getting to be the official taste tester of your mama's baked yummies! My mama has gotten lazy (shhhhhh...don't tell her I said that cuz I love her but...) she doesn't bake too often like she used to. And Blueberry Buckle! YUMMY!!! Mama said her mama used to make that every summer for special treats.

Hey...maybe you post and photos will score me a taste of some yummy treats!

If I haven't told ya lately, I love your blog and you both are pawsome pups!

Woofs and slobbers from your Newfie pal,

  11. Gee M&M...

Looks like a lot of tastin' 'n lickin' goes on around there... we always get ta lick the dinner plates clean if there's not anythin' that would hurt us there...'n that's an important job too. Why, think of all the time it saves Gram since she rinses off every plate anyway before puttin' it in the dishwasher.....no wonder Pap can never tell if they're clean or dirty in there....yer Mom is pretty good ta ya both.....

  12. Those treats look very yummy. How lucky of you to be a taster. Our girl is afraid of her oven, so she never bakes anything for us to taste.

  17. Those are great "lemon eyes" hahahahaha ... your expression says SOUR all over it! The buckle looks delicious. Booker got a pancake this morning, with syrup and butter. That was a special "hurricane" treat. We should have had blueberries to put in the batter!

  19. Maggsie!

I LOVE it whenever you open your mouth all wide like you're going to swallow your mama's hand. Our girl used to bake, but not so much any more. Maybe Stella & I could come live with you guys for awhile.

I wonder why Mitch likes the lemons and you don't? You're related, so it's a little mysterious.

    Goober love & smooches,

  32. We are seriously jealous over here. I can't believe you get to try all this stuff and all we get are crappy broccoli stems when Mom makes salads.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey can you ask your mom if you can use frozen blueberries in that if you defrost them first? We have all that stuff. Mom might even make that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, if I can get Mom's attention maybe she'll make us some buckle too. I can dream can't I??? We all love blueberries maybe I can talk her in to it. Looks yummy!
