Nantucket - The Start

We left for Nantucket Friday the 23rd just before 4AM to catch the 7:30 ferry headed to Nantucket! Dad is enjoying his coffee and bagel with cream cheese and it looks so good! Wanna share with two starving dogs, dad?!

Mom and dad took us out for picnic dindins 5 nights out of the 8 that we were there so we were never left home alone much. Our very favorite spot is called Something Natural! One of their sandwiches is HUGE and mom and dad can order one and both be full. We brought our own bag of chips and our own flavored water and we were happy as larks! Hurry up with that sandwich, dad! The first night was strawberry ice cream! All of the ice creams on Nantucket are handmade and so good! There is no bad choice!Nantucket Ice Cream shop is right next to the high speed ferry and while we were sitting there waiting for dad to come back the ferry tooted his horn and pulled out! You sorta get the smell of exhaust in your face but you forget about it as soon as you take that first lick of ice cream!

Our day would start off with a walk to surfside beach, we'd come home and rest and then head into town so dad could get the newspaper to read on the beach. It didn't take us long to settle in and slow down to the Nantucket pace! This kitty wasn't even afraid of us! We were told that he thinks he's a dog!

One of the side streets has a tiny park-like area with benches and lots of pretty flowers and some woman was feeding the ferrel cats that hang around! I was making sure that their food was up to snuff!
The greatest thing about the island is that it's never hot - there's always a breeze! Our car windows were down all the time so we could stick our heads out the window and bark out a hello to any dog that we missed strolling through town!
Vacation is soooooooooooooooo relaxing!
We had tons of peemail to check out!

Out of all the pretty things on the Island, this was mom's dream! She said it looks like a tennis shoe to her and she would just LOVE to own one if she lived on Nantucket! It definitely would have to be an around-town car on the mainland because it's really small! It's called a Smart car!

This shop is called Cold Noses and this guy was in the window wearing his doggles! He's life size!

We have many more adventures to share with all of you!

So until then...................

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

Packing for Nantucket

We leave first thing tomorrow morning at 4AM to head to Hyannis to catch the ferry to Nantucket! We are all super psyched! We can't wait!

Mom has been gathering stuff and piling it in our dining room so she can then move it all to the trunk of the car later today!

We girls are the packers and mom told me to choose toys that Mitch and I would like to take with us! Okay - I can do that! Notice my Nantucket collar! I'm ready to roll!

We definitely need these mom! Maybe we can chew them on the ferry for the ride over!

The beach umbrella is in A-ok shape, mom! It's ready for loading!

Before we go I have to tell you about the new koiMaggie! Can you see that she's a Red Hatter just like I am! The first koiMaggie got eaten by a nasty Kingfisher birdie so I'm hoping that this won't happen again! I hope her pretty red hat protects her forever! Thank you, Butchy and Snickers!

And we also have to tell you that we won a silver medal in the team synchronized sleeping event! OMG, our second medal! This is so exciting to both of us!

Mitch and I rarely sleep together in the house! It's usually in the back seat of dad's truck and it's because stingy Mitch won't move over and share some room with me! I get tired too and I like nappies just as much as he does but he could care less so I plop on top of him!

We also have to tell you about our latest award from Eduardo! This is what he wrote about us: "Maggie & Mitch were the first dogs to comment on my blog & they are there at every single blog, I think they are at every body's blog! I stop at a random blog that seems to have just started & there they are! Maggie & Mitch enjoy making everybody in the blogging world feel like you can come here & blog! That this can be your outlet! That they are here to read your thoughts even if no one else does. That makes me want to go find other blogs that haven't found friends yet and welcome them to the blogging world. Maggie & Mitch thank you for making me feel welcome! Thank you for letting everybody know, it's nice to be nice!"

Is that just about the sweetest thing you ever read?! Thank you so much, Eduardo! We will display your award with pride! You are the sweetest friend any doggie can ever have!

We also have to tell you that dad is taking his laptop to Nantucket and our sissy has downloaded a dialer on there so that hopefully we'll have dial-up on the Island. We can't promise anything until we give it a go but we're hoping that it works so that we can keep in touch! We have no clue how blogging works with dial-up so this will be something new for us!

We're hoping to read some of your blogs while we're on vacation and we'll post if we can! We'll miss you all LOTS!

See you all in September!

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

Wheelie Wednesday - Indian Pipes

Hi everybody! It's me, Autumn!

Guess what mom and I found in the woods today? Indian Pipe mushrooms!

I know probably not many of you are too thrilled about this but we've never seen them before in person and we're tickled pink that they live on our property! How cool is this?!

We also saw a beautiful red cardinal flower! It's considered a wild flower and it comes back every single year! We're very careful just to admire it and protect it and hope it never goes away!

The Marigolds are in full bloom now too!

And so are the Morning Glories!

Check out the HUMONGOUS tomato that's growing in our garden and probably can be picked tomorrow! It's an heirloom Aussie tomato! It would feed a family of 6!

Guess what else I came across?

Dad's Indian motorcycle! Do you think he'd notice if I took it for a spin?! I made sure I put my pumpkin wheels aside so I wouldn't scratch anything, doG forbid!

This will be my last posting for a couple of weeks as the family will be away! I'll be knitting my sweater and weeding to stay busy and maybe I'll think about inviting Guinness or Hector to join me for a motorcycle ride! We'll see!

See you all in a couple of weeks!

Love, Autumn

Baking with Mom

Mom and dad attended pawties this past weekend! Saturday they pawtied with Sarah who is leaving to go to Scotland for 5 years to study to become a vet! Mom baked the Army of Four's Lemon Oatmeal bars! Mitch has no problem sucking on lemons but you all know that I absolutely HATE them to pieces!

We both got to lick the batter off the spoon before they went into the oven and unfortunately mom didn't take a picture of them when they came out of the oven! They were very, very yummy and there wasn't one left when mom and dad left the pawty Saturday night!

Sunday morning mom made blueberry buckle for Scot's pawty! Scot is leaving for college any day now! We both got a taste of this batter too!

Somebody has to do the job so we sort of appointed ourselves official taste testers! You can't see it but mom is holding 2 spoons in her hand. One is the batter and the other one is the batter topping! We both sampled each spoon to make sure it's fit for Scot's guests!

This is the blueberry buckle just out of the oven!

We're hoping that when mom cuts into it we can each have a taste!

We got our wish! Can you see the buckle in Mitch's mouth?

Open wide! Here it comes!

Here's the recipe if anyone would like it~

Blueberry Buckle

Cream by hand 1/4 cup shortening, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1/2 cup milk, 1 1/2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Mix in 1 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries!

Spread into a greased 13" X 9" pan and sprinkle with crumb mixture.

Crumb mixture: 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 cup shortening.

Bake 350 degrees for about 30 minutes our until the edges turn brown. Cool and eat! yum

So until next time.............

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

A Bronze Award and A Quirky Tag

OMG, I, Mitch, won a bronze medal for making a mess!

And this is the picture that won me my award!

I'm am super psyched! Now my daddy and I have both won bronze medals - thank goodness not for the same event though!

Tess tagged us to play the quirky tag!

The Rules:-

1. Link back to the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

Here are our quirks:

I, Maggie, hate getting my feet wet! I will avoid puddles at all cost!

I, Mitch, panic if I step in poo! It doesn't matter if it's mine or anyone elses! I can't stand soiling my paws!

Neither one of us will go down into our basement! Mom tells us that the evil boogiewoman lives down there and she'll pull our tails if we even think of going down there and we believe our mom!

I won't go upstairs to the second floor of our house unless I'm invited to go up and upstairs is where I sleep every single night! Mitch needs no invitation to go up!

I don't like riding in the front seat of our car or pick-up truck! I shiver and shake until I move to the back seat! Maggie LOVES the front seat best!

We're going to tag Brody, Benson, Baxter and Bailey, and Gussie and Teka! Tell us your quirks!

So until next time................

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

Wheelie Wednesday - Mitch is Learning to Knit

Hi everybody! It's me, Autumn!

Our friends, Winston and Clementine have challenges going on at their blog! Every week is a different challenge and it's really fun submitting pictures and playing along and trying to win! Last week we had to submit pictures with one of us doing a craft with mom! And seeing as mom loves to knit and Mitch has always wanted to learn how, this was an easy photo for us!

Guess what? We were one of the top 3 contestants and here's what Winston had to say about our picture -

"We love how Mitch is able to take direction, but you can also tell that his own creative wheels are spinning as mom teaches him how to felt-knit. We are also pretty excited to get ONE photo with a human-dog crafting team pictured."

If anyone wants to play along, let Winston know and I'm sure he'll be thrilled! The more the merrier, right?!

So naturally I was just a wee bit jealous that Mitch was learning how to knit and I hadn't been taught yet so I asked Mitch to teach me how to knit!

And of course being the sweet boy that he is, he happily said that he'd teach me whatever he had learned so far!

By the way, the knitting on the needles is called the Ballband purse! If anyone would like the pattern, we'd be happy to share it! Just let us know! Mom just finished this one not long ago!

So I have a new project to keep me busy while the family is away on Nantucket! Maybe when they come back I can show them the beautiful sweater that I intend to knit for myself!

See you all next Wednesday!

Sherwood

We have more sad news! Sherwood passed away yesterday morning!

He was doing so well by himself! Dad was spending lots more time with him and yesterday he actually had him on his shoulder walking around in the yard and Sherwood seemed to love it! Barn Swallows were flying in and out of our barn saying hi to Sherwood when he chirped. We think maybe Sherwood got tired and couldn't tell dad that he'd had enough activity and he needed a nap. He unfortunately fell off dad's shoulder and hit the ground. He initially seemed fine after his fall. He was right back up and chirping away.

Missy and Jim came for dindin last night and after they left dad checked in on Sherwood again to feed him and get him ready for bed. He had jumped out of his nest again but when he heard dad's voice he would chirp and all dad had to do was put out his finger and he'd jump right on!

This morning Sherwood snuck out of his nest yet again and we think he must have fallen again. He lost his spunk and he stopped eating. Sherwood didn't want to die! He fought so hard to stay alive! Dad stroked him and told him not to struggle anymore. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch! We feel so badly that God trusted us to take care of two of his precious little creatures and neither one of them made it.

Fly free little Barn Swallow babies! We're so happy we got to spend time with you - even if it was far too short! We'll miss you!

Love,

Maggie and Mitch
