My Sweetest Girl

This is Maggie and Mitch's mom today. I'm missing my furkids and wondering how my sweetest girl is doing. Yes, George does write and it all sounds great but it's not the same as being there. Mitch is daddy's boy and he's a happy boy who idolizes his dad so I don't worry much about him. I know he's having fun and doing just fine.

But I do worry about my precious girl. I didn't post about it but Maggie had to visit her vet a couple of weeks ago because she was refusing to eat and losing interest in everyday living. Tests were run and although she didn't have Lyme, she did have a tick-born disease and she is on doxy. The doxy has been wonderful for her and she's pretty much back to her normal self. I pray her dad is remembering to give her the meds she needs twice a day.

Our favorite artist, Miss Barbara, painted this for me a couple of months ago. The photo was taken around Easter of this year.
The painting is so very special to me. I just adore my Maggie girl and the older she gets, the sweeter she gets! Seniors rock!

I miss you, Maggie! I hope daddy and Mitch are watching out for you and not over-doing it. I can't wait to come home and give you a big hug and kisses on your furry head. You first and then Mitch!

Love,
Mom

  10. I have missed so much! I didn't even realize you were on a trip. I am sure Maggie is being very well cared for. Sorry to hear about the tick-borne disease, but it is definitely a relief that it is not Lyme.

She is such a sweet girl. I often think about her trying to get Sophie to play. How adorable was that? Now that Sophie has a brother and seems to be a happier girl overall, I think she would actually give in and play with Mags. Maybe I will have to drive her down again in the spring.

One thing I've noticed about Sophie, since getting Graham, is how resilient she is. She might be a senior, but she is tough as nails compared to this guy. I have a feeling Maggie is the same.

Give big hugs to both the Dales.

  14. What a wonderful painting! I do understand that you are missing Maggie and, of course, Mitch.
The best thing for me about the dog blogs is that it has introduced me to people I can completely empathise with.
I have a lot of friends who I love dearly but they do not understand the bit about the dogs!
I know that your husband will remember the medication - they can do it when they have too.
I also know he will be giving both dogs lots of extra cuddles and treats.
You will be home soon - enjoy what is left of your holiday.

  23. This brought tears to our mom's eyes! The painting is so beautiful - as is the love you and Maggie share! Mom has to go to Virginia this coming week and even though Dad will be here to take care of us, she's scared about leaving us. Something about me being 14 and pretty dependent on her. Rooooo. I"ll be OK - and so will Maggie! We'll say prayers for her!

  28. Those words are truly from a momma. We expect that the boys are serving maggies every need and whim. Maggie probably misses you just as much as you miss her. Be prepared for a slobbery welcome home. We've had a really bad tick infestation this year. Fortunately none of us have gotten sick. Dad goes over all of us every night when he gets home from work.

your sweet letter made mama and me cry. Mama knows how you are missing little Miss Maggie. But we are sure she is being well taken care of. Mitch is a great brother and will give her lots of attention and dad will of course make sure she is getting plenty of food and her medicine.
There is nothing like this kind of love on the face of the planet. Only another mom who loves her dog can understand.
Your Maggie will be so excited to see you- I can just see her now..

  34. Hello Sue!

I have been such a bad, bad, dog blogger just lately.

However, this morning, there was some lovely free computer time, so I happened upon your post.

I think Maggie is the same age as Marvin, and like you, I cannot bear the thought.........well you know.

I am sure George is looking after her fine, we always worry about stuff, then find out we should have actually been worrying about something else entirely! Well, this is how I find things.

It is such a worry when they are sick, Marv had a tick born problem a few months back. Because of the problem, he scratched himself raw to be honest, we walk in such tick infested places here, it was quite alarming. He is fine now, but upsetting at the time. He had some excellent meds, and made a good recovery, but it really laid him low.

    My thoughts are with you.

  35. So hard to be away from our furbabies! Maggie will be so happy to see you. Soon. PS thank you so much for your kind comments regarding my mom. I am NOT going to say this on my blog because family members read it... but... I am going to to to NJ later in December to spend Christmas with the family as a surprise, and also to help my sister who has a lot on her plate right now. My three pups will go to their loyal caregiver (who is also the lady who rescued them) xoxoxo

  37. NOW is when we get SO frustrated when Moma lets us fall behind in our reading! (And we are FAR behind.) We totally understand your missing your Girl. And we hope that all the support you've gotten from everyone before us has made it easier.

We read somewhere that you must be coming home soon ... and we're hoping the snow holds off. Maybe we are already home, with your arms wrapped around sweet Maggie. What a wonderful homecoming to imagine.

We're glad she is responding the meds and TLC. But the arms of Moma are going to make all the difference.

We'll watch carefully for an update, and until then, imagine the BEST!

I'm a little stunned by the news but as soon as I've gathered the details, I've said a prayer for Maggie, & that your guy gives the doses timely. Praying that all things be good and you'll be home soon to cuddle your kids.

We've survived the move (read:nightmare), but, all's good. Be checking on your kids later. Meanwhile, take care wherever you are.
