Lately.......

You all know that our dad has a huge workshop.  Years ago, before Mitch and I were even born, dad built an apartment upstairs in his workshop barn.  This apartment was for his mom, Dotty, and she lived there only a short time before she passed away.   Mom and dad have been renting for a number of years now.   We lost our tenant recently and they have been working like dogs to get this apartment shipshape for another tenant.

Today we had a "picnic" upstairs in the apartment~
Mom and dad couldn't decide if they wanted their shrimp pizza to be red or white so they got half and half!  They decided pretty quickly that they liked the white better because it tasted more buttery and stronger of garlic.

This is the family room in the apartment.    Dad hung all of the sheetrock so the barn frame was exposed.   The floors are cherry.
 This is the bedroom.
And the bathroom.   Around the corner is the shower.
And this is the small but very efficient kitchen.  Dad built the cabinets.  His mom wanted pine with cherry raised panels.
And you all know that I don't do stairs anymore.  Dad had to carry me upstairs and then back down.
Dumdum mom totally forgot that I needed rugs to make it easier for me to get around and of course there are NONE and to make matters worse, she washed and waxed the cherry floors so I needed to tread lightly or end up on my furry butt!
You're probably wondering why our dad is wearing black leggings.  That's his compression outfit.  His legs still retain fluid and these fancy socks and pants keep the situation pretty much under control.
It's great fun for him to wear them when it's 90 degrees outside!  Yea, right!

Look who he caught nosing around our vege garden - probably deciding if she should lay her eggs there.  Another Mrs. Turtle only this is Mrs. Snapping Turtle!   YIKES!
She will be loaded into the back of our pick-up truck and relocated.   Anytime we relocate a turtle, we go for ice cream!  yippeeeeeeeeeeee
Keep finding those evil turtles, dad!

So until next time.............

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

  3. What a great apartment! Anyone would be lucky to live there! Your pawrents are soooooo talented!

Our dad had to wear those sockies for awhile and he said it was like trying to fit 10 pounds of s**t into a 5 pound bag, every time he put them on. We hope your dad can get rid of them soon!

  4. That is a beautiful apartment - you should have no trouble finding someone to rent. The wood work is just so pretty and we can see all the love and care that went into it and what is even better - I am sure they get to see bits of your beautiful garden too. Those compression stocking are evil - they tried getting Mom to wear them in hospital but they bought her out in a rash all the time and she said they hurt ! You be careful Miss Maggie - we don't want you slipping and hurting yourself.

  15. Hi Maggie and Mitch, that's a really nice apartment you have there. One day it could be a B&B suite. I get carried too, up and down stairs. It's okay and I'm not nervous anymore. Everyone is very careful. My dad's dad had that fluid in the legs thing. My dad said it was gout and that it really hurts. So that's not good. Anyways thanks for the tour and I'll check back soon.

  30. What a beautiful and cozy apartment! Mom loves those cabinets. She really misses her cherry cabinets in her very old home in MA - they just had refinished the 1929 kitchen when Dad took a job in Kansas and they had to leave the cherry cabinets behind.

TD would love to see that turtle. Hope you all enjoyed your ice cream.

  43. Hi M & M & Sue,
I surely wish you could send us some rain too!!! We have a woods fire going on about 6 or 7 miles from us and the smoke is so bad I couldn't work in the garden or walk this Am. The wind is bringing the smoke right here. I sure hope they can get it contained soon. If the fire comes around here-- BY BY house!!!!!
Yesterday was an all time high. 105 degrees and a fell like temp was 115 !!!!!!
Tom works in the heat every day all day and it is really making him so tired!!! He takes 2 gallons of water with him each day.
