One Wild Morning

Last night was a wild night here with very high winds and rain.  The rain wasn't the real issue with us - it was the wind!
When we got up at 4AM to do our bidness, it was very scary and very windy.  Mom told us to hurry so that we could get back inside and be safe and we did.   About 1/2 hour later when mom was on the computer writing to Aunt Lydia, she heard a C-R-A-C-K and then a BOOM!
These are the branches that mom heard.  It's a huge mangled mess and the only thing good about it is that it smells wonderful - like Christmas again because the tree is a pine tree.
This is the view from upstairs.
Mom and dad are cleaning for the Celebration of Life pawty on Saturday and as mom is washing windows she's stressing about that tall damaged tree top that's still hanging on .  Do you see it?

We never saw it happen and we never heard it but when we left the barn to come back inside the house, look what was in the back yard.
That tree top fell. It wiped out our white lilac!   It's still windy here but not as bad as it was this morning.  This morning, the winds sounded like a freight train.
The only real damage we had was this - a crushed downspout!
We feel so very fortunate!  We did have other trees that came down but they're not close to the house and barns.  WHEW!

Look what I found on our morning walkie.  Coffee!  I carried it all the way home but never drank a drop!
This is our 1400 post!

So until next time.......

Love ya lots,
Mitch

  1. Thank goodness you and your home are safe, but I'm very sorry about the lilac and the other damage! We had crazy wind last night too, but Mama hasn't had time to walk the perimeter and see where the "thumps in the night" happened... the buildings and vehicles were okay!

  3. That wind was scary! When it was Hurricane Sandy, a friend had a Evergreen tree come down on their house. They had damage to the roof and so forth, but luckily no one was hurt. We noticed your tree was an evergreen that came down. I guess Mommy never really thought about that before, how evergreens have their needles all year round and I guess that makes them heavier and more dangerous in gusty wind. I'm glad you guys are ok! That must have been scary!

  8. Congratulations on 1400 posts! Like the comments above we are glad you are all safe after the storm, and that you weren't outside when the pine branches fell.

Are you now going to make something out of the pine, or will it be next winter's firewood?

  9. Thank Goodness the trees stayed away from your house! Now you'll have some good firewood for the rest of the year!

  10. I think it might be time for that old pain to depart and become useful as something else - don't want the rest of it falling down and hitting the house. Thank goodness no major damage!

  12. I had the same wind go by my home. Thank goodness like you no major damage, just cleanup. There seems to be no peaceful weather anymore. Somebody was a litterbug with that coffee cup and you picked it up, we got to try and keep our world clean. Good job.

  19. Hey Mitch,

Sorry about the high winds and the downed tree. I can tell ya that wind scares all three of us and while it is warm where we are, it still gets windy. Gram is always afraid that our mobile here will blow away one day.....hopefully not with us in it....

    Have a great day!

  21. Hi guys,
Firstly, congratulations on your 1400 post.
Yes, those tree's falling down can be incredibly scary - we've had our own share of adrenalin over the past month with our thunderstorms and heavy rain. So glad that no one was hurt and that the damage isn't too bad.
Enjoy the prevailing, resulting aromas. :)
