Friday Flare-Up

Hi guys.  It's me, Mitch.   I went to the vet yesterday because mom and dad knew that I was hurting and needed help.  My myositis is flaring up again.  I have been drinking lots and lots of water and the water in my dish has been all foamy and full of saliva.  Mom and dad now are thinking that this is an indication that a flare-up is coming.
My beard is all wet.  I just got another long drink.

The vet gave me a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic for 10 days and he also gave me prednisone for a whole month.   He checked my temp and I was running a fever and he also gave my mouth and jaw a good work out which didn't feel so good and he also stole my blood and gave me a shot.  I gave my vet a nasty look when he jabbed me with the needle.  That hurt!
I'm feeling a wee bit better today but not a whole lot yet
Molly and I helped mom make pumpkin cheesecake squares for the Halloween pawty that mom and dad are having here tomorrow.   We've been doing a lot of clean up to help out but we know that they'll be meanies in the end and not invite us to the pawty.
I'm taste-testing the pumpkin.   You probably can't tell but I'm taking it very gingerly off the spoon.   My jaw still hurts.
Doesn't this look so yummy?  Molly and I are hoping that mom shares a smidge of it with us!
Happy Friday, everybuddy!     I hope my next prednisone pill makes me feel a whole lot better.

October Morning Walkies

Autumn is just the best season for walkies.   It's so crisp and beautiful!
We had frost.  It was 28 degrees yesterday morning!
Yes, I know.  The leaf is going along for a free ride in my beard~
 Good smells here, Molly!
You can see the wet spot on the top of Molly's back where she licked herself silly this morning.   You are so nutty, Molly!  It's too cold to go out with soaking wet furs!
The farmers plowed the eggplants under~

 Bittersweet~
 Juniper berries~
 Crab apples~
I need to pee on the Golden Rod~
We have these extremely stinky mushrooms that pop up all over the place on the other side of our pond.  Our friend, Dana, told us they were called Stink Horn Mushrooms.  He was sure right about them stinkin'.  We see lots of flies all over them.
We're looking through beautiful autumn leaves at the back of dad's big barn.
The beauty berries are still purple but the leaves got hit by frost and they are curling and dying.
 Time for our cookie, mom!
Thanks for walking along with us!

My Happy Collar

Mom bought me a new special collar.  She wanted to see if it would make a difference.  My vet seems to think that I "might" be OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - and mom agrees with him.  She says that I can be a bit high strung at times and that I could win the Academy Award most days for being an outstanding actress.  Life can be stressful for me at times - like when there happens to be a fly in the same room with me, or when dad reclines his chair and I'm resting near by or when  my peeps might happen to sneeze.  All of these things wig me out and I run for cover.
I also get a wee bit anxious when we pass by certain houses on our walkies where there happens to be a dog or dogs who bark at me and run along their fence lines in their yards.  No, I've never been attacked and they're friendly dogs.  I grab a mouthful of grass or I put my leash in my mouth for comfort until we get past.
I also have an issue with excessive licking; especially on my side.    I get my fur soaking wet to the point that mom has to grab a towel to dry me off.  I've been known to do this in the winter when it's freezing cold out.   Mom thinks it's ridiculous but I do it anyway.

So this is my new Adaptil collar.  It's the grey one that fits snugly around my neck.  It needs to fit snugly so that it stays warm and encourages the diffusion of the pheromone into my AireSpace so that I feel safe and secure and less stressful.
The collar lasts for 4 weeks and then it will need to be replaced with a new one.
Mom and dad laugh at the box's advertising.   It says "The secret to happy dogs".   I am happy but mom thinks that I could be even happier if I had less stress from so many quirky happenings in my life.
Update:
A week has passed and I've been wearing my Adaptil collar non-stop.  Well, the truth is, the collar doesn't work for me.  I'm still my same stressy nervous nelly Molly self.   Oh well - we tried.
Into the trash can you go grey collar!
I like the simply life when the most important question of the day is which ball should I play with at this exact moment~

So until next time.............

Autumn in October

The cleome and hydrangea are still hanging in there~
Luckily, mom took this picture on Saturday.  Sunday and Monday, we had overnight lows of 20 degree temps and the hydrangeas and cleome flowers are no more.

The last of the concord grapes.   Mom said they were so sweet this year.  We wouldn't know anything about that.  Stingy hoomans~
The Virginia creeper in its autumn color~
 The Whooper swan girls~
 And the Mute swan sissies~

 The black swans~
 Poisonous jimson weed pod~
And the poisonous poke weed.  We don't come near either one of these plants.
 The lumber barn~
I, Mitch, got groomed and boy do I ever feel so much better!

We have sad news.    Our little Barnacle goose buddy, Todd, went to Rainbow Bridge yesterday.   Yes, we know, he decided to leave on our dad's birthday.    Dad is beyond sad.
You sure were one brave little fighter, Todd, and one happy little goose and we sure did love watching you motorboat through the water on your daily swims in the pond.
Rest in Peace, Todd.  We miss you lots, little buddy♥

Helping Mom Bake

We helped our mom bake apple crisp and these apples came from our tree in our yard.
You're going to share one with us, right.
 Don't worry - I got more than just a long apple peeling~

The topping is on and it's ready for the oven.   Dad doesn't care for toppings with oatmeal in them so mom finds recipes that don't include oatmeal.
Apple crisp with butter almond ice cream~
 Yes, please!

 Have a serene Sunday☺

So until next time...............

Ready for his dive into the bird bath!
Our oriental cherry tree has a booboo.
