True Story

Mackie is back and he'll be here for a whole week!   His daddy is leading another barn raising - this time in New Jersey.
You will notice in the above picture that I am wearing a prong collar and now Mackie and I are twinsies.  It bothers mom that I am wearing it more than it bothers me.  Mom much prefers me to be wearing my harness.

This past Tuesday, mom and I were walking with Miss Dotty, and we spotted a small black dog walking with a lady up ahead of us.  She was training her dog at the time to sit and "look at me" and he was responding beautifully.    As we got closer, mom immediately noticed that the black dog was a very young puppy and sooooooo cute.   I went into berserk mode spinning and trying to get at the puppy and mom was doing all that she could to get my attention and to control me.   She was afraid that I was going to back out of my harness.   The lady and the puppy moved quickly away and mom was very upset with my behavior.   She needed to figure out why it had happened.  When we first moved from our apartment back to our old stomping grounds, we met a Golden Retriever puppy one morning.   I sniffed him and then proceeded to growl at him.   So mom is thinking that I don't care for puppies very much (thank doG I was never a mother with pups, right!)
She thinks that I was telling the puppy that this is my territory and I don't want to ever see you on my walkie again?     I have had recent bloodwork and I am healthy so my health is not an issue.

We knew that Mackie would be spending a week with us and mom wasn't going to have 2 Airedales going nutso on a puppy so she told me that until my behavior has improved - I will be wearing my prong collar.
We have not seen the puppy since the incident so maybe he took my advice *wink wink*☺

What is that red thing hanging upside down, brave Mackie?    You go first to see and then I'll follow!
Happy a wonderful Sunday!

Love ya lots♥

  1. Dear Sweet Molly and Mackie.
I think it is very wise and proactive of your mom to have your well being and that of all others you might meet in the FRONT of my Mind.
So many folks Don't have the forethought to take care BEFORE an incident.
#1. she could get hurt and THAT would BE HORRIBLE FOR HER TO FALL OR BREAK SOMETHING
#2. you two could get hurt or hurt another 2 or 4 legger and that would not be good at all
#3. While on vacation I encountered many K9s on trials. Some had a leash thing around the sniffers and some had similar collars. WELL DONE MOM
taking the care to protect all!!! YOU ARE A VERY GOOD DOG MOM
Hugs and thank you for the welcome home wishes

  2. Molly, you really scare your mom when you act like that around puppies. Gotta be a big girl and share the sidewalk. My Levi misbehaves too when he sees another dog but he wants to play with them all and is not aggressive. Still, it's scary because I don't know the other dog's temperament. Maybe I need to try one of those prong collars. I can control him better in his harsh than with just he regular collar but sometimes I get lazy and don't put him in it.

  6. Lulu: "What fun to have your brother for a week. I would love to have a brother to play with. Or a sister. Or anyone, really."
    Chaplin: "You have me."
Lulu: "Your idea of playing is to whap me with your paw when I go by."
    Chaplin: "Right! Such fun."
Lulu: "Anyway, I hope you guys don't meet anyone on your walks who needs a talking-to, but at least your mom will be ready for it if you do. That's what moms are for!"

  7. SHE says we need prong collars....we go nutso when we see other dogs or cats while on the lead. (When we're off, we know dog etiquette perfectly.)

  8. Lee use to have one because it was the only way we could all stay safe. Hope the puppies stay out of your way. Enjoy your time with Mackie.

  9. Oh, Molly! Now you are acting like Luke, and not in a good way! We've never tried a prong collar but we hope it works for you. We have gone through a lot of different harnesses when many got backed out of though!
Have a fun week with Mackie, and try to be a good girl! :) ♥

  11. Kind of wonder if you don't like puppies for the same reason some kids don't always like babies ... a bit of jealousy maybe? Humans tend to oh-and-ah a whole lot over pups, kits and babies ... and IGNORE us bigger ones (at least temporarily) ... and they get all mushy and drooly there for a few moments in time ... when "wee ones" appear! Heaven knows why! We bigger ones are just as awesomely cute as those wee-wittle-ones ... but whatever it is, oh well...
who can figure out humans sometimes. Not me!

  12. Mommas go kerazy over perfectly normal dog stuff sometimes! So what if I want to scream at another dog to get the heck away from me? That's just fine in dog manners. C'mon, Momma!

  13. Oops Molly you are in bad bucks with your Mom. You have to remember what you were like when you were a puppy Molly! But I am sure you will behave now. I hope you have a lovely week with Mackie. Hugs, Susie & Treacle xx

  14. Morgan didn't like puppies either but she just pretended they weren't there. Sydney shows extreme aggression and can't be trusted near other animals.

  15. That is such a hard thing for your human to deal with. I know from experience how scary it is when you think that your dog might hurt another dog (especially a helpless puppy). The hard part about this is that you don't see the puppy very often so it's hard to modify the behavior. You're so smart, Molly, that I'm sure that you'd learn really fast if you got regular practice (from a big distance so you don't go crazy).

Your mom is a smart cookie - I'm glad that she's got a way to keep you from hurting her or pulling her a long distance, Molly!
