Swans in the Autumn

We haven't posted about the black swans in awhile because we had another loss and dad asked us please not to.   So we didn't.
The swan house that dad is building is for the black swans. They need shelter in the cold months.  We now have 1 male, Buster  and 2 female blacks, Hazel and Agnes.

Mom has been taking pictures of the black swans in the autumn foliage and we just couldn't not post the beautiful birds in their pond surrounded by gorgeous autumn leaves~

This is Buster - the only male swan on the pond.
This is Buster and Agnes.  The black swans are native to Australia and it's spring in Australia and breeding season for the blacks.
Neither one of the girls is crazy about Buster's advances so it's next to impossible to get pictures of the three of them together.

These are the 2 female blacks, Agnes and Hazel.   Buster is still on the shore close to the water a few feet away.

And so the white swans don't feel left out~~
Penny and Margaret, the Mutes and Angel, the Whooper.
Angel is a very friendly swan.
Stay on your best behavior, Molly!

Of course she didn't!

The swan house is coming along beautifully!  We can't wait to show it to you when it's a little bit further along.

So until next time.............

Love ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly

  2. Our nearby lake is permanent home to a wonderful flock of swans, mostly white, but there's about a dozen black ones and they're so beautiful...Our city takes good care of the swans, making sure they've got plenty of food year round, and guarding the newborns each spring

  6. Yer swans are truly beautiful and I bet the swan house is gonna be beautiful too. Gram n Pap had 3 ducks years ago that they really grew at love. Traveled back n forth ta the cottage with 'em but left 'em at a neighbors pond that fall. Pap made a duck house fer 'em so they could get outta the cold n snow. Unfortunately there are predators out there that wanted ya have em fer dinner and so by spring they were gone. We hope yer swans have a long happy life.

  10. Sorry, you've had a loss. But those swans are gorgeous. We have black swans at our duck pond that we haven't visited FOREVER. They should enjoy their house when it's cold.

We noticed the white swans beak colours...is that the way you tell the kind of swan it is?

Love those reflective pictures....and the foliage.

  19. The black swans look particularly beautiful against the autumn colors!! We love watching the swans swim when we go to Myrtle Beach. The RV Park where we stay has several swans in different lakes around the park. You are very lucky to have your own swans to watch!! xo Chloe and LadyBug

  24. Your photos of the swans are heavenly. The autumn foliage reflecting off the water and the gorgeous swans is an incredible combination.

I can't wait to see the swan house!

Now, isn't it odd that the black swans stick with their southern hemisphere schedule even though all the environment cues (like the changing light, the cooler temps) are wrong. Interesting...

  25. The reflections on the water are beautiful. But poor, lovelorn Buster. Why don't the girls like such a good looking guy?

  26. The black swan is the emblem for Western Australia.

We actually saw a wild one on our Lake last month (wish the peep had the camera!)

  27. They are so beautiful!!! But I still have to say they would not be happy with me trying to herd them if they lived at our place :)

  28. I'm sad to hear you lost one of the swans.

Regarding the black guy, do you mean he's still in touch with Australian seasons? I'd have thought he'd adapt to the northern hemisphere seasons.
