I'm Home

Mom and dad picked me up from the animal hospital around 5:30 last night and I was full of energy and ready to get going! I said good-bye to the kitties in the cages and jumped into the Maggiemobile for my ride home! Mom was warned not to give me food or water for a whole hour after we got home because I'd woof it down and this could lead to even more problems but mom sorta broke the rules and gave me small bits every 15 minutes until all of my soggy food was gone! Thanks, mom! Because of my toofie surgery, I have to have my kibble soaked in water for 7 days to make it easier for me! It actually smells better wet than it does dry! It brings out all of those lucious aromas and I was sooo hungry last night! I kept whinning to mom to please give me more, more, more!
I do have pain killing meds and antibiotics to take and mom dips them in the peanut butter and I have no problem swallowing them right down!

This morning mom noticed that I was scratching at my stitches and I got the e-collar for a very short while! I kept bumping into things and it was so frustrating and Mitch was laughing at me and thought it was playtime! I didn't think it was funny at all! Mom took pity on me and told me that if I stayed right next to her she'd take it off, so I did! Bless you, mom! I'm going to try and be good and avoid that nasty PIA collar!
When it was time for walkies I didn't want to go! I did make it outside but I kept looking back at the house longingly so mom didn't push the issue. She brought me back inside and Mitch and dad and mom went walkies without me! It was okay!

This is the girl they saw when they returned home~
I was content!

Can you see my poodle leg? That's what dad calls it! It's where my IV was!

Mom is making New England Clam Chowder for dindin tonight and Mitch was hanging out in the kitchen waiting for a free handout! I didn't even bother getting up and going to see what was going on! I'm very quiet and I love my extra pets and hugs! Mom says to give it time and I'll feel better in no time at all! I hope so! Thank you all for all the support that you gave to me and my family yesterday! It meant the world to us and we couldn't have gotten through it without you! You're all such great friends!

Look at the beautiful get well e-card that Huskee and Hershey sent me this morning!

Thank you so very much, guys! That was very, very thoughtful of you!
They also sent Mitch and I Snoopy Christmas ornies! They arrived in the mail on Monday, the day before my surgery!
Mitch kept trying to take them off the tree and mom told him no!
This was so very sweet of you guys! We all love Snoopy here and we will treasure these ornies forever and think of you each year when we hang them on our Christmas tree! Thank you very much! It's beginning to snow at our house right now! The weatherman is predicting from 3" to 6" for us! It'll be a lazy day for me today! So I'm going back to doing what I do best!

Happy New Year to all of our DWB buddies! We wish the very best for all of you in 2009!

So until next year..............

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

My BooBoo Surgery

Guess what? I got hosed out of my breakie! Can you even believe that my vet would be so mean?! But I didn't miss my walkies! Mom and dad and Mitch and I walked for a mile or so this morning so I could pee and poo!
About 7AM we headed down to Central Animal Hospital in New Haven! When we got inside I noticed 3 stacked cages in the corner of the waiting room and guess what was inside these cages! KITTIES! I barked my hello and told dad that I wanted to touch noses with them but he said NO!

It wasn't long before a nice lady came out from the back and slipped a skinny red, white and blue lead over my head (mom was waiting for it to snap at any moment because it was really wimpy for a strong girl like me) and put a hospital band around my neck and my pretty red Airedale collar was un-hooked and given to mom and dad to take home with them. Mom and dad both said they'd be back soon to pick me up and the lady took me behind closed doors and I went willingly!

There are lots of strangers here and funny smells and bright lights! This is a very strange place but I know you are all with me in spirit and I know that mom and dad are coming back so I'm trying not to be afraid! Thank you all for your support! It means a lot to me and Mitch and mom and dad! It's around 10:30 and my vet just called mom and dad and told them that my booboo surgery went just fine but they found a broken toofie in my mouth that needs to be removed! Mom had no clue that I even had a broken toofie seeing as I never told her! Do you think the bad boy was a marrow bone? Mom will ask the vet and see what his thoughts are!

Hi everyone! It's me, Mitch! Look what the UPS man just delivered for my sissy!

It's a soft e collar and mom wanted me to model it for you but I ran away screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Mom figures that Maggie can wear the hard plastic transparent lampshade throughout the day and then have something more comfy to use at night! Mom is hoping that Maggie can still sleep on her back because this is her most favorite way to sleep. She's old and we think comfort is important for her!I miss my sissy! I want her to come home! We'll keep you posted!

So until next time...................

I NEED That Cookie

Hi everyone! It's me, Mitchy and I'm trying to get that cookie out of this roller ball! Mom put it in there to keep me busy and to TEASE me!

It's in there! I can see it and I WANT it!
Maybe I can chomp down on it and it'll SQUEEZE out!
I need to figure out how to get you out! You smell so yummy!
I think it's on it's way out! Could this be SUCCESS?!
Maggie wanted to help me! She says that two heads are better than one! hummmmmmmmm

I think I'm going to pass on your help, Maggie! I don't want to share! This is MY roller ball and MY cookie!Mom ruined our fun! She said that I was getting nasty and growling at Maggie and she took the cookie out of the roller ball, broke it in half and that was that! But guess what? I got the bigger half!

So until next time...............

More Pressies

We got a Christmas pressie in the mail from our Puggle friend, Preston yesterday! He sent us TREATS! One bag is Savory Beef and the other one is Roasted Chicken! OMG, we are drooling! We can't wait for mom to open up the package so that we can sample both of them!Thank you so very much, Preston! This was a total surprise and a very thoughtful one!

Our sissy and Jim gave me a purple Wubba for Christmas and they gave Mitch a rope toy! Mitch LOVES rope toys! I just wish that Mitch would learn the meaning of the word - SHARE! I wonder if he ever will?!

Mitch also got this Cuz bowling pin! He's been running around with it in his mouth all day and shoving it in my face! No thank you, I don't want to play, Mitch!I did see my vet yesterday and he took lots of my blood to make sure that I'm a healthy girl for surgery this coming Tuesday! Mom is nervous about it but she's trying to deal with it! I have never had to wear the dreaded lampshade - not even when I was puppy when then stole my female parts - but because I've been scratching at my face mom is pretty convinced that the e-collar is going to happen! We don't want to scratch out our stitches! Plus Mitch loves to come up along side of me and shove stuff at my face trying to get me to play with him! So Tuesday morning at 7AM, mom and dad will take me to the animal hospital and I'll have to spend a few hours there, but not overnight, thank goodness! Dad tells me that Modern Apizza is right across the street from the animal hospital and that I can have a pizza crust as long as the doctor says I can when I get home and settled! So maybe the surgery won't be so bad as long as I can dream about pizza!

So until next time..................

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

Our Christmas

Guess what, everybody? Mitch heard Santa on Christmas eve! He woke us all up at 3:45AM on Christmas morning and we went downstairs at 4AM so we just missed the big man in the red suit! DARN!!!! We checked the plate of cookie and they were all gone and Santa drank all of his milk too! We think our snackie held him until he got to the next house!

Guess what Santa brought us? Reindeer antlers! Mom says that mine was most probably shed from Dancer and Mitch thinks that his was shed from Rudolf!
This is the first time we have ever had these treats and they are Airedale tough! We're still working on them and we haven't even made a dent at finishing them off!
These antlerz are supposed to be good for us and they're not greasy and messy like a marrow bone is so we can keep them in the house mom says! whooooohooooooo If you haven't tried them yet, they get a TEN from us! Mom loves them too because it's keeping us occupied!
We got a Christmas pressie in the mail a few days before Christmas from our good buddies, Rudolf and Goofy! They sent us this adorable Dachshund stuffie dressed up as a hotdog!
And they also sent this pretty pink giggle toy that talks to us when we shake it! Um - I think they meant that to be for ME, Mitch, seeing as it's PINK!
They also sent these ice cream treats that we have never had before but we're dying for mom to open up the package so we can give them a try! We'll let you know how we LOVE them! These treats mom was kind enough to share! Bless you, mom! They are dog safe chocolate chip cookies! yummmmmmmm

Thank you so very much for our Christmas pressies, Rudolf and Goofy! That was sure super nice of you guys! We love everything that you sent to us! You are too kind!

We also got a Christmas pressie from our friend, Putter! She sent us each an Airedale ornie for our Airedale tree! Aren't they too cute?! Thank you so very much, Putter! We love our ornies so much and every year that we hang them on our Airedale Christmas tree, we'll think of you!

We did get a few other pressies and we'll tell you all about those in another posting.

Did you all happen to notice my booboo in picture #2? I have an appointment to see my vet this morning! Mom says that this is just not healing properly and it needs to be attended to! Mom is afraid that the dreaded surgery word is going to come into play but my booboo cannot go on like this any longer so we'll let you all know what the next step is!

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa was good to you all!

So until next time.................

Wheelie Wednesday - Christmas Eve

Hi everybody! It's me, Autumn!Mom and I are only making 2 different kinds of cookies this year because the only people coming to our house on Christmas day are Missy and Jim (my sissy and her hubby) and mom doesn't want to overdo it because she knows who'll end up eating all of the leftover cookies!

The first batch of Peanut Blossom cookies have just come out of the oven! My gram always cools cookies on newspaper and naturally mom does the same thing! How many other moms use newpaper to cool your holiday cookies on?

Check out this cool potholder that gram gave mom! It's a goat! Isn't he cute?!

What big teefies you have, Mr. Goat! I can see cookies down there in your tummy! Hello down there!
Mitch was being most helpful today! He pre-washed the mixer beater for mom! You can see Maggie in the background waiting for her turn!

The other cookie recipe we baked were the Russian Tea Cakes! Dad calls them Butterballs because that's what his mom always called them. It's the exact same recipe - just a different name!

The cookies are done and I've made a plate for Santa! I just need to pour him a nice tall glass of cold milk tonight so that when he slides down our chimney to leave Maggie and Mitch pressies he'll have a nice snack to tide him over till he stops at the next house! No snitchin', Miss Maggie! You have to be a good girl! Santa is still watching, ya know!

Merry Christmas, everyone! We hope Santa brings you everything on your Christmas list!

See you all next Wednesday!

Love, Autumn

The Idahoan

Guess what mom and dad had for dindin last night? PIZZA!

This is only the second time that mom and dad have had this kind of pizza. It's called the Idahoan. It's like a potatoe skin appetizer. It's the pizza crust and it has mashed potatoe on it and cheddar cheese and bacon and sour cream and it is to-die-for! Most of it got eaten last night but there was ONE piece left for lunchie today!
Mom was kind enough to share her crust with us! Pizza is one of our most favorite things in this whole wide world!
Hey, Mitch! You've got Christmas green eyes! heheheh
Guess what? It's snowed at our house again! We got another 4 inches of snow, which makes a grand total of 14 inches of snow so far! This is our small pond getting dumped on! The small pond is right out our family room window!
And guess what else? Mom decided bake a cranberry bread for dessert!
Now whose got the Christmas green eyes! hehehe We sure do like all of this holiday baking! Thanks for all the free handouts, mom! This bread sure is yummy!

One of mom's quilting bee ladies posted this link! You've got to see this! It's too cute!

So until next time...............

We have Ten Inches of Snow!!!

It snowed here on Friday! It started around noon and kept on going! We ended up with 10 inches and it's just beautiful! Mitch was leaping through the snow and he wanted me to keep up with him and at my age it just wasn't happening! I prefer to sniff the snow trying to find some decent smells!Mom kept us off the road because cars were slipping and sliding and she didn't want them slipping and sliding into us so we checked out the brook at the edge of the pond! Mitch just couldn't stop plowing his face through the snow! What did you find under the hedges, Mitch? Anything interesting that I need to know about?!We have some disturbing news to share! These are all of our Christmas cards so far from all of our DWB buddies! Aren't they beautiful! We love each and every one of them! Thank you so very much!

Mom decided to count all the cards this afternoon and see who was ahead! Here's the score - Maggie and Mitch - 68 cards! Mom and dad - 41 cards!

We find this very distressing! The mailman delivered 3 cards today and they were for the hoomans! We're beginning to get nervous that mom and dad might be more popular than we are and we can't have that happen! So everybody cross your paws that mom and dad don't pass us and end up with more cards than we have! We'll keep you posted!

So until next time...................

Love ya lots,

Six Things that Make Us Happy

Addie and Zoe posted about six things that make them happy and we thought that this would be fun! Me first and then Mitchy!
Three things that make me deliriously happy are:

1. Walkies!

2. Pizza
3. Onies (macaroni)
And pretty much in that order!

Your turn, Mitch!

Three things that make me VERY happy are:

1. Walkies

2. Fruit, especially apples

3. Going for rides in the car or the truck. I don't care where we're going as long as I get to go too!

Yesterday mom made Date Nut Bars - some were for us and some were to share!

Here's the recipe if anyone would like to make them:

1/2 cup flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, 2 eggs, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 package of chopped dates, 1 cup chopped walnuts, 1/4 cup melted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Beat eggs till light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar, beating while adding. Add the dates and the nuts. Add dry ingredients, melted butter and vanilla. Spread into a greased 9" shallow pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 40 minutes. Cut into squares and dust with confectioners sugar when cool. Enjoy!

I helped mom mix all of the ingredients together!

And Mitch and I both got to lick the spoon before the batter got spread in the pan!
This is some good stuff, Maggie!

Baking for Christmas is sure a lot of fun! We can't wait till mom starts making cookies!

So until next time...............

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

10. Randi, lives in California and is our friend that is famous for Randay! What a character she is! She is a very clever and fun-loving girl who can multi-task better than any doggie we know!
Mom made a loaf of bread in her bread machine this morning called Pannettone! The wonderful smells coming from the bread machine were driving us both NUTS! This is the recipe in case anyone would like to make it:

Heat 1 cup of milk and 3 Tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan till warm, then pour them into your bread machine. Add 1 egg, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt and a 1/4 teaspoon of anise extract. Add 3 cups of flour, 3/4 teaspoon anise seed, 1 Tablespoon of yeast
and last but not least 1 cup of fruitcake mix. Push the start button and in just over 3 hours you have a HUGE loaf of bread! This loaf is over 6 inches tall!

We can't wait for more holiday baking so we can lick the spoon!

So until next time..................

Wheelie Wednesday - Christmas Ornies

Hi everybody! It's me, Autumn! I missed you all last week! Mom had just come back from Florida two days before and she was still busy catching up and getting things back to normal!

Gram sent mom home with more ornaments for our Christmas tree! Isn't this mousie cute? He's all dressed up in his Christmas finery just waiting for the big day! And here's another mousie! This one has his scarf on and he wants to go sledding in the snow! Maggie and Mitch want snow too, little fella! They can't wait for the white stuff to fall!
And we now have another Snoopy ornie! Everybody in our house just LOVES Snoopy! He's so much fun!
You have to check out this handmade hat with a tiny tassel and stocking set! Mom thinks it is just adorable and she wants to search for a pattern so she can make these herself! My paws are crossed that she finds the pattern in a larger size too! That hat and stockings would sure be cute on me!
Our friend, Ross was here yesterday morning and he brought mom and dad a Christmas gift! Look what it is! It's an Airedale Christmas ornament! This ornie is from the Pet Set Collection to benefit Morris Animal Foundation. Isn't it awesome! Farley thinks so too! Thank you so very much, Ross! We will treasure this ornie forever!Next Wednesday is Christmas Eve and Santa will be going to all the houses of good little boys and girls and doggies and kitties and hammies! You're all being extra good, right?!

See you all next Wednesday!

Love, Autumn
