Tasty Tuesday

Once a year, my mom makes her mom's Cherry Cobbler with the canned tart cherries and the tapioca and she remembers the wonderful memories of sitting at the dinner table with her family and enjoying her mom's homemade desserts.  Her mom was a dessert lover so there was ALWAYS dessert if you ate all of your dinner.

My birthday is this coming weekend.   How would this painting look on our wall, mom?   *hint hint*

Nature Friday

We are joining Rosy this week for Nature Friday~~

We did get out for walkies a couple of times but we didn't find much color.

We did find more color right in our backyard!   The Hellebores are blooming but they don't seem to want to stand up straight and hold their heads proud.
The Hyacinth is poking through the soil~
The Magnolia is budding!
It's nice standing in the sun on the south side of the house.
Happy Friday, everybuddy!

Tasty Tuesday

Mom hasn't had custard since she was much younger and lived at home and her mom made it for the family of five and that was a very long time ago.  She can remember the round glass pyrex dish her mom used and it was so yummy.   Ours is a much smaller amount but the wonderful taste and memories come flooding back.

Yup, it's just as tasty as you said it would be, mom!
Who can be in the snow and not want to roll in it?!
Don't be fooled.   We have the sun and beautiful blue skies but the temps are hovering around freezing and the wind chill makes it feel even colder.

Happy Tuesday, everybuddy!

Nature Friday

We are joining Rosy and Sunny this week for Nature Friday~~

Mom, your shadow is photoBombing my snowRoll!
There - that's better~
What a beautiful day but truth be told - I am limpies once again and this time it's not lickies.   Mom thinks it's the arthritis issue and I don't get my next Librela injection until next Friday.   In the meantime, we will double up on the Dasuquin and see if that helps.
This photo was taken the day of the storm.   The only birch trees we have are in the woods.
Five more minutes, mom - pretty please~
Happy Friday, everybuddy!

A Snowy Valentine's Day

Snow fell for around 12 hours yesterday.   It started in the very early morning and ended around 1pm.  Mom had been praying for hours that the snowblower would start for her.
We had a wonderful surprise.   Farmer Will plowed the driveway for us!   What a great neighbor and we are so appreciative!  Thank you so much, Will!
The little bit of shoveling that she did was back breaking as this snow is very wet and very heavy.
We didn't measure it outside but when we got back inside, mom measured my leg that was underneath the snow and it seems we got around eight to nine inches.   It was blowing as it was coming down so it's deeper in some places than others.

The temps were cold last night so we are so happy and thankful that we don't have to deal with ice in the driveway for two weeks like the last time.

Molly Monday

We had high 20's for our walk this morning~

Are you ready for the snowstorm, duckies?!   The weather peeps are saying 8 inches to a foot but it's going to be the wet heavy stuffs and not the nice fluffy snow -  bummer.
Mom's latest puzzle~
She said it was a real doozy!
Happy Monday, everybuddy!

Nature Friday

We are joining Rosy and Sunny this week for Nature Friday~~

We had twenty degree temps on Wednesday morning with a wind chill so mom decided that Mitch's coat was a must wear for me.  She was reading that pups with dementia would prefer to be warm.  We can do that!

We don't see a whole lot of green in the neighborhood yet but this Yucca is green enough!
Mom can't remember the last time we walked all the way to the "secret garden".   It's been months!
And a wee bit past the secret garden - look mom!   Who has a horse around here?!  Can you see how tightly she's holding my leash?   She doesn't want me snacking or rolling.   She's such a pawty pooper!
And to brighten your Friday.   Mom was at Van Wilgen's once again checking out the Orchids.    She would love to have one but she's afraid that once the flowers fall off, she will never get it to bloom again.
Happy Friday, everybuddy!

Tasty Tuesday

Mom had lots of milk that she needed to use up so she decided to make Rice Pudding.

1 1/2 c. water
3/4 c. uncooked medium white rice
2 c. milk, divided
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan over high heat, bring water to a boil. Stir in rice, reduce heat to low, and simmer, covered, 15 to 20 minutes, or until water is absorbed.

2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine 1-1/2 cups milk, the sugar, salt, and rice; mix well. Cook 10 to 15 minutes or until thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in remaining 1/2 cup milk and egg; cook 2 minutes more, stirring constantly.

3. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Place in serving bowl and refrigerate until chilled.

Official taste tester at your service!
Did you remember the nutmeg, mom?
Don't worry -  the red bits are dried cranberries.   Mom doesn't buy raisins any more.
Best rice pudding ever!

Molly Monday

Mom made her cheese bread yesterday.   She says that it is so easy to make and the bestest ever!

This is the recipe if anyone wants to have it:

EASY CHEESE BATTER BREAD
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. warm milk
1/4 c. warm water
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 pkg. active dry yeast
2 c., 8 oz. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
3 eggs
Generously grease bottom and sides of 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Melt butter in warm milk and water (microwave works well). In large bowl combine 1 1/2 c. flour and all other ingredients; beat 3 minutes (had whipper works well) at medium speed. By hand, stir in remaining 1 cup flour. Cover and let rise in warm place until light, about 45 to 60 minutes; dough does not double in size. Stir dough down; place in greased pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, baked 45 to 50 minutes until golden brown. Remove from pan immediately. Store in refrigerator. Note: It tastes better after it's refrigerated, be eaten warmed up. Good with a little butter on it.
Oops- sorry that I ate it so fast and you sorta missed your shot, mom☺
She always asks me, "Was it good, Molly?"
Yup - it sure was!
Time to play some ball, mom!
Happy Monday, everybuddy!

Nature Friday

Finally, at long last we get out for walkies!

I have been missing so many wonderful smells!

The only thing we found with any color on our walk was the Ornamental Kale.   Gosh, this plant has been through ice and snow and too much rain and still it looks great!   Mom says she NEEDS to buy one of these for our yard for next winter!
She's been missing flowers and color so she visited the greenhouse and came home with 2 African Violets and a Cyclamen.   Hopefully, she can keep them all blooming!
Happy Friday, everybuddy, and Happy February!
Thank you, Rosy and Sunny for hosting Nature Friday!
