Molly Monday

There are more flowers opening on the Amaryllis~

Currently there are four flowers open on stalk number one and stalk number two is getting ready to burst.    I don't think there is any more room for four more flowers!
Happy Monday!

Nature Friday

We are joining Rosy and Sunny today for Nature Friday~~

Our newest squirrel proof hanging baffle is the Arundale and it's working!  So far, no piggy squirrels have been able to figure out how to get to the feeder and steal the birdie's seed☺

Mom has to outfox them on the heart feeder.   We know that those pesky squirrels jump from a near-by limb right into the center of the heart if the feeder is turned towards the limb.   She needs to figure out how to stop the rotating feeder.   Those squirrels are sure smart and persistent little buggers!

Flowers on the Amarylis are still opening!
There are still two more buds to open on one of the stalks.

We still have another stalk to go!
What a beautiful flower this is and it's the first time we have ever had one to watch.   We may have to have one every year.   It brings so much beauty and excitement to a cold January day!

Happy Friday, everybuddy!

Tasty Tuesday

Yesterday was rainy and dreary and raw and mom was in the mood for Rice Pudding~

She says that making this recipe reminds her of her younger days when you had to stir and stir and stir until you thought your arm would fall off ☺

The recipe:

1 1/2 c. water
3/4 c. uncooked medium white rice
2 c. milk, divided
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan over high heat, bring water to a boil. Stir in rice, reduce heat to low, and simmer, covered, 15 to 20 minutes, or until water is absorbed.

2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine 1-1/2 cups milk, the sugar, salt, and the cooked rice; mix well. Cook 10 to 15 minutes or until thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in remaining 1/2 cup milk and egg; cook 2 minutes more, stirring constantly.

3. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Place in serving bowl and refrigerate until chilled.

Of course, the official taste tester is on duty!   Mom served it to me with a heart cookie after she removed the raisins that she decided to add.    When she eats it, she'll will sprinkle a wee bit of cinnamon on top.

Yummers!  The recipe is a keeper mom!
Happy Tuesday, everybuddy!

Nature Friday

We are joining Rosy this week for Nature Friday~~

We love the tall grasses this time of year.

I AM looking, mom!
We found berries, which we are very happy about.   Because of the drought this summer, there just aren't any out there!
Yesterday morning, the crows and the blue jays and the squirrels were all fighting over the peanuts mom put out for them!
We had a junco come to our smaller feeder.  We normally see them feeding on the ground.
The amaryllis that my sissy gave mom for Christmas is about to burst into bloom.     The stem is seventeen inches tall from the rim of the pot to the point of the flower bud.

Happy Friday, everybuddy!

Patsy

Today would have been gram's ninety-first birthday.

This is Patsy.  Mom remembers her from when she was just a little girl.   She always wanted to hold her and stroke her soft hair.

This is the drawing of Patsy and gram.   It was drawn by great gram, who was a most talented lady with paint brushes and needle and thread just like her daughter was.      Gram got Patsy when she was just a little girl and now we have inherited Patsy and the beautiful drawing and they both bring such fond and loving memories ♥
Happy Birthday in Heaven, gram♥  We miss you here on earth - lots♥

Nature Friday

We are joining Sunny today for Nature Friday~~

A beautiful sunrise more than a few days ago~

Mom got a squirrel baffle for the heart bird feeder and it's working!   She got a finch feeder and nyger seed too.   It's not a feeder that's visited too often yet.
The squirrels are coming to this favorite feeder, which is honestly too small for them.   They tip the feeder when they leave and dump out lots of seed so yesterday morning, mom decided to take the baffle off the heart feeder and double-baffle this feeder, which is the favorite for so many birds.  She also added another hook to lower it farther from the branch above.
Yup, she bought suet for those who love it and the nuthatch comes every day.      Yes, Miss Lisa, she bought peanuts for the squirrels and until yesterday, the blue jays were swooping in and eating all the peanuts before the squirrels even knew they were there until yesterday morning when a squirrel finally noticed the peanuts!
My friend, Gumbeaux and I wish you happy Friday the 13th!

Nature Friday

We are joining Rosy today for Nature Friday~~

Look at the hoof print we found in our yard.   It's been a wet week and the ground is soft.

A few days ago, we were outside and I was doing my business.  Mom was laughing at the squirrels trying to figure out how to get into the feeder.     She's not laughing anymore.   They figured it out!
It's time to move out, little evil buddy!  Share some with the birdies too!   The squirrels seem to have brought the birds with them.  We've seen chickadees and tufted titmice and blue jays and a woodpecker and a lady cardinal and it makes mom happy - so happy that she has suet on order that will be arriving soon☺    Our friend, Lisa, tells us to get peanuts to toss on the ground to feed the squirrels.   Maybe then they'll leave the bird seed alone?!
Our Christmas cactus is in full bud, which surprises mom because she constantly prunes it all year long to keep it inbounds but stops snipping the tips around November first.   When the Christmas tree is on this table, there isn't enough room for the Christmas cactus and the tree so it gets sifted from an east window to a west window.    We are hoping that this year not too many buds fall off without opening.     To the right of the photo is the amaryllis that my sissy gave mom for Christmas.   It's the first time we've ever grown one of these so we will see how it progresses.
Mom's latest puzzle was a Christmas gift from Miss Laurie. Thank you again, Laurie♥  What a fun puzzle and not as easy as it looks!
This has been a wet week with temps that are very warm for January.   We haven't walked as much as we NEED to and sadly, it's raining again this morning.
Happy Friday, everybuddy!

Come and Get It

One of mom's Christmas gifts from my sissy this year was a beautiful heart-shaped bird feeder.    This past Friday, she took a ride to Tractor Supply and bought forty pounds of classic bird seed, came home, filled the feeder and hung it in the pink Dogwood tree.

Since Friday, she's worn a path in the carpet peeking out the window to see if any guests have arrived.   Nope - and not even a stoopid squirrel!

Yesterday afternoon, she was checking out the window for the 87,000 time, and she spotted a Chickadee just leaving.    She got all excited and told him to please go get all of his friends and come back! Well, he didn't.

I hear that suet will be served soon too, little birdies!

Today is my sissy's birthday.   Happy Birthday, Melissa♥    We hope you have a fun-filled day!

Love ya lots,
Molly
