Todd has been with us for awhile now. He was injured when he was only days old. We think he might have been trampled by other waterfowl. Todd is a Barnacle goose and he lived in Rhode Island with a man named Peter and Peter needed to rehome him and dad said yes. One of Todd's legs was badly broken and it's not repairable. Todd is a fighter and he has more spirit in his little body than you can imagine.
Can you see Todd's hook foot? His wire cage has to be tiny hardware cloth wire so his foot won't hook the wire and he'd be stuck until it was discovered that he needed help. Yup, it's happened. He's such a little trooper!
Todd sleeps inside dad's workshop in his own hay-filled pen. He requires a lot of special attention and our dad takes very good care of him.
Dad and Todd "fly" every day to exercise Todd's wings. Unfortunately, Todd was pinioned when he was only a day or two old. Had Peter known that this accident was going to happen, he wouldn't have been pinioned and he would have had two working wings but flying away wouldn't have been a good thing for Todd. Things happen for a reason.
Are you ready for your swim, Todd?
We get a kick out of Todd's rudder foot.
Todd is a very happy little boy. Some days are harder than others for him but he's not ready to give up yet.
Way to go, Todd!
Love ya lots♥

Thank you for sharing the amazing Todd with us! I can't believe how well he swims and how incredibly well your dad takes care of him. I think that Todd is an inspiration for us all!!!!
ReplyDeleteTodd is a lucky fellow that he lives with you. In the wild he wouldn't fare too well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet boy. I had a group (is that what you call them) of ducks when I lived in Missouri. We had 6 then 11 babies (which we gave away)
ReplyDeleteEventually all but one of the original were lost to predators. It happens in the woods. The last one named Peter was a Muscovey. That might be why he lasted LOL. He was ugly! We brought him with us to Texas when we moved back. We had him for a long time. He was the lone duck. He was a hoot!
Thanks for sharing your story. I enjoyed it.
