Ice Ice Everywhere

We have ice ice everywhere here!
My pretty pink striped poncho was given to me by my friend, Snowball, who has passed.  We will forever miss you, sweet Snowball.

It's all over the trees and our fingers and paws are still crossed that as the sun melts the ice, the branches stay in place and limbs don't come down on top of our house or our barns.

The icicles are a real problem this year.  Everyones gutters are full of ice and as the snow melts on the roof, the water is backing up into our houses and staining our ceilings and walls.  It's not just us - it's a LOT of people that are dealing with this mess!

This is the road in front of our house. It's slick!
Yesterday mom and dad were up on our roof once again shoveling off a snowy icy mixture and still the water dripped in.  This is damage that is not making our mom happy at all.
Remember less than 2 months ago mom repainted the bathroom and put Airedale stencils on the wall?  Water found it's way inside the wall and "wrinkled" the paint.  Mom hauled off the wrinkles only to be left with this~
She'll repair it when winter is over and it won't happen again.  UGH!

We love the snow but we do have to say that at this point - we have had enough for the season.
We do not like ice.  Yes, it's beautiful but it's very destructive and dangerous!

Stay safe and warm everybody!

Love ya lots,
Maggie

  7. We're with you. Today it's 0 degrees and the snow hurts our feet. Some of us don't want to go out and some run out, then can't walk back. Mom has to go rescue us. This isn't fun anymore.

  8. We hate leakies - our Mom collects buckets and we usually have then strewn all over our inside porch this time of year catching all of the leaky water.

  9. Hi Maggie and Mitch, yikes that's not good at all. Please tell your hoomans to be careful. You guys need to be careful too. Nobody gets hurt and we'll get through this winter just fine.

  10. Maggie, You look cute in the poncho. Snowball had one too but the weather was never suitable for her to wear. It is only recently that our weather isn't as hot as before. Snowball would love the weather now if she is still around.

Thank you for remembering her. I miss her lots too.

    Happy Lunar New Year!

    Cheers

  12. How incredibly frustrating - yes... beautiful (as a child, I called "ice" days "fairyland" but it looks totally treacherous. As Mango woofed, stay safe - working on the roof in those conditions sounds pretty scary.

  16. Oh no, what a pain. We have had the same problem with our bedroom ceiling caused by rain, rain and more rain. An Airedales life can be very trying sometimes.

  26. Oh, gosh, that's kinda some skeery stuff. My paws are crossed that the sun comes to visit and melts all of that away for good! Especially the ice. That sounds like the skeeriest part of all.

Take care of yourselves, my dear furends! And stay warm!

  27. Winter can be beautiful but can be so destructive to homes..one of my dads grew up in an old heritage home and had the same problem with leaks from snow and ice on the roof and gutters. Those were the days~! PS tks for the birthday greetings!

  28. Skhary and messy -

The ice has helped maintain my snow - that was one of its only benefits -

  29. Oh dear, that is just terrible - after all that hard work from Mom. The ice on trees is always so beautiful, but it can wreak havoc with power lines and houses. We keep hearing about all the roof collapses. Stay safe - no fun clearing snow off the roof. We hope you get a break soon.

  41. OMD...did you guys ever get the ice...yeseesesch...

We had our hoooge storm last February...had water on the closet floors...soaked the carpet too...it was coming in from the roof peaks...same thing...ice stuck all in the gutters...

Please please tell your Peeps to be careful on that roof. The guys that dug ours off used scaffolding...some of the icicles they knocked off weighed over a hundred pounds...winter is dangerous!

We know just under that snow are some crocus and some daffy dillys that are just waiting to SPRING!!

  42. I am so sorry about the damage to your wall. Ice is very dangerous. In the past, I have wrecked several times on it and always have fallen on it. Now I stay inside..it's scary. They are calling for ice here again which is what we usually get instead of snow. Please be careful and let's hope spring comes soon! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

  43. We got lucky & missed the ice storm, but I agree, no more winter!

  44. Oh yes, we agree that snow is much better than ice if you must choose (of course we choose sunny warm days!). There's not much to say good about ice...no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Be careful not to slip on it. We're terrified of it here, and are fortunate it doesn't come up north here too often, though we understand our southern neighbors suffer from it frequently. Stay safe!

  45. Our mom left you a comment yesterday, but Blogger ate it!

Please be careful around the icicles! When our pawrents lived in Pawsylvania, a ginormous icicle came down and broke the windshield of their pick-up truck! And they didn't even know it until Spring! (They weren't driving it because of the light weight back end. Even steel bars in it still let it spin in the show and ice).

    Stay safe and warm!

    Penny & Patches

  47. Hi Maggie and Mitch,
Thanks for this very informative post! We are very upset about the leaking in your house (Parental Unit gasped when she read that and saw the pictures-she know how hard your Mom and Dad work to keep your house...well, perfect!

Please be careful on your roof!
We've had lots of ice here-more last night and lost part of our tree, but not to the extent that you've had!

P.S. We love your gorgeous Poncho from Snowball, may he/she be frolicking over the RB as we speak:-)

  48. Bless your hearts!!! I am so sorry about all this ice and snow with more to come!!!!!!!! This has been a winter for the record books!!!
I am so ready for it to be over but then I think about some of the violent spring's we have had and then the hurricanes!!! Mother Nature is mad at us and she is the boss!!
We must make peace with her!!

  49. wow, those icecicles are really huge. that's so terrible that the ice is melting and making water iinside your house. we're sorry that it is so destructive. we wish all of the ice would melt and go away, but that would probably make a mess too.
