Guess where mom and dad were yesterday morning?
At MY obedience class without ME! Can you even believe it? Mom and dad already know how to sit and do a down stay.
I'm the one who needs the training so why wasn't I invited to go?
Mom explained to me that the first session was only for the hoomans because they had lots of paperwork to fill out and it was a whole lot of information to take in.
They came back with homework!
And we've been doing our homework!
Mom has been training me to focus on her and to have eye contact with her. She puts me in a sit and grabs a treat. She extends her right arm out to the side with the treat in her hand. Naturally, I focus on the treat just willing it to come to my drooling black lips. But it never does because the object of this game is for me to have eye contact with mom and once I do, I get a "yessssssssssss" and the treat is mine all mine! We do this trick 10 times in one session and I'm getting better about not taking so long before I focus on mom's eyes!
Mom says we have to do homework every single day until my class, which starts for me on the 27th of this month. I want to ace this class! So until next time............
Yer friend,
Mitch
Hmmm... Sue and Norma Jean had the same schedule. I'm wondering if the training place I use - and have a gift certificate for - does the same thing now?
ReplyDeletehomework means lots of treats!

You are going to be the star pupil Mitch - with out a doubt! And think of all those yummy treats you will get for being a good boy
ReplyDeleteMitch, we know you will ace the class with no problems!! Homework is fun because you always get treats!! Lots of love, Holly and mom
ReplyDeleteOur last class is the day before yours starts. That's our graduation, wonder if I'll graduate? Mom had to go to the first class without me, too. Why did I have homework when I didn't even go to the class? I'm starting to think Mom's really the one who needs training. I hope you enjoy your class and have good classmates like I have.
ReplyDeleteNorma Jean
Love that name, Paws n' Effect - and how lucky you get to go to school. That means you will get special time alone with Mom and Dad and lots of yummier treats than ever. Mom says that is a good way to learn eye contact. She learned it by holding the treat near her eye, but she thinks this way is much better.
ReplyDeletePlease do keep us updated on how things go for you.

School is so much fun! Did you et a new backpack with school supplies? I don't go to school right now....Beth said I am being home schooled....can't wait to go again! Practice Practice Practice!
ReplyDeleteOh Mitch, dis is so exciting! I can't wait to see what in all you learn...maybe I can some stuffs from you...hehehe.
ReplyDeleteThere is gonna be a new training place opening up here and it's called" Sit Happens"...hehehehe!
Puddles
Good job, Mitch! You're gonna be the STAR of the class, I just know it. Cuz you're super smart and all. And you're going to have the very best time. I just LUVS going to school!
ReplyDeleteWiggles & Wags,
Mayzie
Oooh! We love those classes where they train our humans to feed us turkey hotdogs! Mom actually uses that 'focus' thingy when she wants to get pictures of us looking at the camera... I'm sure you'll do great in class - just keep practicing with your Mom so she doesn't screw up (you wouldn't believe how long it took for Mom to learn how to feed us turkey hotdogs in various situations.... I think she's a slow learner!)! Have fun!

ReplyDeleteSee Yea George xxx
Yo Mitch...I feel for ya, Man...my classes started a couple of weeks ago...and I've been wearing that Gentle Leader. Bruvver sez I look like a mule. But, Mumsie sez she shoulda done it a looooonnnnnggggg time ago...cuz in just two weeks, I've been 90% less um well "vocal" at the park and don't jump on hoomans and she said we can go on more walkies now as she's not afraid I'll drag her into the street. (Well, I once did drag her across a yard...)
ReplyDeleteSo hang in there and work for those treats, Mitch...some of the hoomans use hot dogs...I'm workin' on her to buy some...
Pawslaps,
Stan the Man
I don't think we could ever do that....treats are just too tempting.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella
Homework can be fun with treats! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteIsn't obedience class hard? I think they just passed me to get me out!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed visiting your site...very cute!
Since you like dogs, check out my book about our golden retriever :)

Mitch,
ReplyDeleteYou are so going to ace that class.
You know we are smart when we want to be...heehee. We just need inspiration. It has to be FUN and treats are good too, But mostly it has to be FUN!
Wyatt
Hey Mitch! School sounds like a fun! Good thing there are snacks involved!=))
ReplyDeleteThor and Jack
Oh Mitch......first let me say that I can see ya got Eastered 'n good....rabbit ears the humiliation since all we can think of here is catchin' one of the many bunnies hoppin' around.
ReplyDeleteYa certainly don't need obedience classes....why aren't ya paws-a-tiv-ly perfect already ? That focus on the Mom when there are treats ta be had can be a real killer.....
Dewey Dewster here....
10 times . 10 treats. If it took you 20 times to learn something would you get 20 treats ? Could be benfits in pretending to be a slow learner.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Mitch! We just know that you'll do great in your class.:)
ReplyDeleteLove,
Teddy Bear & Sierra
Way to go Mitch!! I'msure that you'll ace the class no sweat! School and homework is a lot of fun dontcha think.
ReplyDeleteYou will do a great job, Mitchy! We know Maggie and your hoomans will be very proud of you! Our mom is wondering if anyone has classes for dogs with ADHD. I (Patches) have a hard time focusing my attention on any one thing for more than a couple of seconds.
ReplyDeleteAire-hugs,
Penny & Patches
Well, now I kinda want to go to class!
ReplyDeleteHi Mitch,
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy and lots of ice cream. :-)
Nice woooh
Sally
Hope you enjoy your classes Mitch and have absolutely loads of treats.
ReplyDeleteMOlly, Taffy, MOnty and Winnie
Hey Mitch,
ReplyDeletewe know you will ace the class!
My mommy said there are a lot of more homework for parents than us in those obedience classes. (maybe that's why we stopped going after my puppy training...my parents do not like homework!)
good luck!
M&M!!!! I haven't been blogging at all and am almost never on the blogs at all anymore. Mom is so crazy busy with one and a half jobs that she can barely keep track of her own head, so I suffer by missing out on everything. I had no idea your dad was in the hospital and I'm really happy he is home with you guys again.
ReplyDeleteI am old and feeling pretty slow on my leggies these days, but the rest of me is doing really well, so I am going on a road trip this spring with mom. We are going to Philadelphia and mom is thinking about maybe doing a NY to Boston trip on the way home. We might just pop in to see you if we do, but it's all up in the air.
I miss you guys lots and am still considering maybe playing with Maggie if I come back to visit.
Smoochies to your mom and dad.

Hi Mitch, wow that sounds like what I and all my brothers and sister had to do. It gets better because we've all graduated and now we just do agility.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! Lookin' good there my friend!!! I have the 'look-into- my-eyes' game with mom or dad at every meal... you'll get to be a pro at it in no time!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSweet hugs,
Sierra Rose
Good luck with your obedience class - you'll be great!
ReplyDeleteI loved taking Sawyer to puppy school so much that I took an extra class, and am considering more! I think I have more fun than she does!
Mitch, I have no doubt that all three of you will "ace" this class! Thanks for the training tips, too-Parental Unit and I both need them:-)
ReplyDeletehey hey.. we know that place.. Paws...we do like it there.. do you have ms.Kathy? persephone had her and i played on sunday with her..and ms. gracie was down there just a couple of weeks ago.. mitch, you will like it.. you get lots of treats (they make sure you do). ms. gracie will be down there too but who knows when, she gets to go everywhere.
ReplyDeletetheBUSTER, MS.Blue, Ms.Persephone & ms. grrrracie the great
Mitch! That is a great way to practice for school. It isn't easy to look at the boring human when there are foodables so close by. Keep practicing.
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Mango

ReplyDeleteHi, Mitch -
ReplyDeleteWe know that you will "ace" this test as well as the class. Is your dad doing better?
