MY Obedience Class

Hi everyone.  It's me, Mitch!
Guess where mom and dad were yesterday morning?
At MY obedience class without ME!  Can you even believe it?  Mom and dad already know how to sit and do a down stay.
I'm the one who needs the training so why wasn't I invited to go?

Mom explained to me that the first session was only for the hoomans because they had lots of paperwork to fill out and it was a whole lot of information to take in.
They came back with homework!

And we've been doing our homework!
Mom has been training me to focus on her and to have eye contact with her.  She puts me in a sit and grabs a treat.  She extends her right arm out to the side with the treat in her hand.  Naturally, I focus on the treat just willing it to come to my drooling black lips.    But it never does because the object of this game is for me to have eye contact with mom and once I do, I get a "yessssssssssss" and the treat is mine all mine!  We do this trick 10 times in one session and I'm getting better about not taking so long before I focus on mom's eyes!
Mom says we have to do homework every single day until my class, which starts for me on the 27th of this month.  I want to ace this class!

So until next time............

Yer friend,
Mitch

  1. Hmmm... Sue and Norma Jean had the same schedule. I'm wondering if the training place I use - and have a gift certificate for - does the same thing now?

  6. Our last class is the day before yours starts. That's our graduation, wonder if I'll graduate? Mom had to go to the first class without me, too. Why did I have homework when I didn't even go to the class? I'm starting to think Mom's really the one who needs training. I hope you enjoy your class and have good classmates like I have.

  7. Love that name, Paws n' Effect - and how lucky you get to go to school. That means you will get special time alone with Mom and Dad and lots of yummier treats than ever. Mom says that is a good way to learn eye contact. She learned it by holding the treat near her eye, but she thinks this way is much better.

Please do keep us updated on how things go for you.

  11. Oooh! We love those classes where they train our humans to feed us turkey hotdogs! Mom actually uses that 'focus' thingy when she wants to get pictures of us looking at the camera... I'm sure you'll do great in class - just keep practicing with your Mom so she doesn't screw up (you wouldn't believe how long it took for Mom to learn how to feed us turkey hotdogs in various situations.... I think she's a slow learner!)! Have fun!

  13. Yo Mitch...I feel for ya, Man...my classes started a couple of weeks ago...and I've been wearing that Gentle Leader. Bruvver sez I look like a mule. But, Mumsie sez she shoulda done it a looooonnnnnggggg time ago...cuz in just two weeks, I've been 90% less um well "vocal" at the park and don't jump on hoomans and she said we can go on more walkies now as she's not afraid I'll drag her into the street. (Well, I once did drag her across a yard...)

So hang in there and work for those treats, Mitch...some of the hoomans use hot dogs...I'm workin' on her to buy some...

  25. Oh Mitch......first let me say that I can see ya got Eastered 'n good....rabbit ears the humiliation since all we can think of here is catchin' one of the many bunnies hoppin' around.

Ya certainly don't need obedience classes....why aren't ya paws-a-tiv-ly perfect already ? That focus on the Mom when there are treats ta be had can be a real killer.....

  26. 10 times . 10 treats. If it took you 20 times to learn something would you get 20 treats ? Could be benfits in pretending to be a slow learner.

  29. You will do a great job, Mitchy! We know Maggie and your hoomans will be very proud of you! Our mom is wondering if anyone has classes for dogs with ADHD. I (Patches) have a hard time focusing my attention on any one thing for more than a couple of seconds.

  33. Hey Mitch,

we know you will ace the class!
My mommy said there are a lot of more homework for parents than us in those obedience classes. (maybe that's why we stopped going after my puppy training...my parents do not like homework!)
    good luck!

  34. M&M!!!! I haven't been blogging at all and am almost never on the blogs at all anymore. Mom is so crazy busy with one and a half jobs that she can barely keep track of her own head, so I suffer by missing out on everything. I had no idea your dad was in the hospital and I'm really happy he is home with you guys again.

I am old and feeling pretty slow on my leggies these days, but the rest of me is doing really well, so I am going on a road trip this spring with mom. We are going to Philadelphia and mom is thinking about maybe doing a NY to Boston trip on the way home. We might just pop in to see you if we do, but it's all up in the air.

I miss you guys lots and am still considering maybe playing with Maggie if I come back to visit.

Smoochies to your mom and dad.
