Our Mom's Trip

We are helping mom prepare for her trip to Seattle.  She has never ever been to Seattle or anywhere out west before. This will be a first for her!

She will be visiting with Dave and Sophie, who live with Auntie Lydia ☺

 You gotta check this out.  Mom got this SOAR calendar before Christmas and she booked her flight in January some time.    Look who's on the calendar page the week that mom is gone.   It's none other than Miss Sophie herself!  This is totally meant to be, right!

 And mom will be visiting with Miss Kate and Putter ☺

 Look where Putter goes for walkies almost every single day!  Mom can't wait to go for a walk with them!

And we want to know why we weren't invited! This sounds like such a BLAST!

Our mom wants to let everyone know that she will have no access to a computer so this will be an official blogging break for us - another first! We have been blogging for over 7 years and we have never taken a blogging break before.

Is our mom a wee bit excited?  OMD, she's been smiling and planning her trip for months!  Yup, she's out of her mind with excitement!

We'll catch up with all of you in a week's time with lots of pictures of fun adventures!  Please don't forget about us!

Timber Frame Saturday

Mom and dad have been TOO busy and we've spent lots of time gated out of the kitchen as  helper peeps come in and out of our house carrying foodables in or taking them out to the workshop.   We actually at one point did get to go out and meet the new students who were timber framing in the barn, but mom was too busy to follow us out to get pictures.
They are all doing a great job!

 We've told you that mom and dad are timber framing and making pegs and several of you have asked if we're having another barn raising.   The answer is yes.    These women are helping to plan the menu for the barn raising for Miss Brenda, who is at your far right. The barn raising will be in September in Maine. 

 The actual tour of barns isn't officially until tomorrow but D and M were kind enough to invite us into their beautiful barn home today.   This project goes back a LONG way for our dad.  It's a restoration that happened in the summer of 1988. 

 D is a fabulous gardener!   It is only April and his gardens looks wonderful!   Mom says she can't wait to take a peek in a month or so and see what D has done. 
Mom says there are no weeds ever in his gardens!  Everything is beautifully manicured!

 What a treat to be able to see their adorable place.   Thank you so very much D and M!

Timber Frame Weekend

This weekend is dad's annual timber frame class and tour of barns.  For the very first time, class is going to take place in our barn and the students will timber frame on our property.  How cool is that!
Dad and mom have been cleaning like crazy and yesterday, mom went shopping  and came home with the trunk of her car stuffed to the gills with foodables!

We helped mom make her pizza pasta salad in the afternoon.
We both got to try both red peppers and green peppers.

 And mozzarella~

 You were too slow, mom. We downed the grape tomatoes 5 seconds ago!

 The pizza pasta salad has pepperoni in it and black olives but we didn't get to taste those.  It's moistened with Italian salad dressing. 

 We were checking out the progress in the workshop and we were hoping that an apple would roll out of that bowl and right into our waiting mouths but no such luck.

 Apple turnovers!  Yes, please!

 It's tradition to head to Pepe's Pizza in New Haven the night before timber frame class and this year was no exception.

 And this one is shrimp and bacon.    You can't make a wrong choice when you order.   Every pizza is fabulous!

 And right next door to Pepe's is Libby's. They have the best Italian ices and gelato and all kinds of fancy Italian pastry. 

 We sure wish that we could have been invited~
Mom says that we'll be helping her make the lemon squares today. yahooooooo

Bob the Builder

Way back when I was just over a year old,  I was introduced to Bob the Builder.    I was curious but scared to death of him.

 Molly met Bob today and she felt the same way that I did all those years ago. 

 Look Molly, Bob has your tennis ball!    Are you going to go and snag it from him?

 Bob the Builder no longer scares me.    I guess I finally realize that there is nothing to fear. 

 Molly doesn't quite feel the same way yet!

Happy Easter

Our sissy is joining us for Easter dindin and she is bring the pizzagaina!    Doesn't it look just beautiful!  Mom will be making lasagna and rice pie~

We can't wait to dig in!

Making Pegs

We've been making pegs, which you can also call wooden nails.  Dad uses them to join the timbers together in the barns.

 The pegs start out as planks of wood and get band sawn down to 1" X 1" square stock. 

 The peg sits on this sled jig that dad built and it gets pushed through the band saw blade.  The blade slices the corners off the peg and makes it easier and quicker for the hand plane to make it round.

 All of the pegs have to go through this gauge to make sure they're exactly the right size so that on barn raising day, they fit and don't split any beams.

 We're making tiger maple pegs and white oak pegs and chestnut oak pegs and walnut pegs. 

 Dad is making sure the points are just right and I'm looking for a yummy snack!
