Dad has decided that he has ignored the problem long enough and we have to do something about it before the entire cap comes tumbling down. So staging was built around the chimney so that dad and the masons could work safely.
That's Joe, the mason. We sure hope he has suction cups on his shoes!
We get dizzy just looking as this picture! You wouldn't get us up that high for all the ice cream and pizza in the world - and walk the plank to the chimney? No way EVER!
Joe and dad are removing one of the chimney caps. There are actually two caps up there. They had a seam in them - a good thing because they are heavy!
OMD! You are a very brave man, dad!
The caps are on their way down to the ground. The masons have a well wheel and they lowered it like gentlemen. They will use this same well wheel to lift bricks and cement and the new chimney cap back up.
Dad says now that the chimney cap and pillars have been removed, two or three courses of loose bricks will also have to be removed and replaced.
Joe and Ed, the masons, are cleaning and preparing so that they can begin to rebuild first thing tomorrow.
The next morning they're up there bright and early.
The 3 courses of bricks have been replaced with new bricks. They don't match perfectly but they will be safe and sound and hopefully last forever!
The pillars are going up - eight of them this time instead of six. Joe is being a clown! haha
These are the new brownstone chimney caps. There will be three caps this time instead of two.
One beautiful job, Joe and Ed. You guys do great work!
It won't be long before we'll be having a fire in dad's workshop fireplace!
So until next time............
Love ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly
OMD, you wouldn't get me up there either but didn't the boys do a good job !
ReplyDeleteLoves and licky kisses

No way would we go that high!! Those guys did an awesome job though!! We really hope he did have on suction cups!! :) xo Chloe and LadyBug
ReplyDeleteyou guys are going to need it - they are saying another snowmageddon is going to hit this winter
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh we are not good with heights at all but nice job. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
That was some scary stuff! Looks like they did a good job. Our Dad tore off and replaced the entire roof a couple years ago. Mom, who is afraid of heights, could barely get halfway up the ladder to hand up supplies. We doggies barked the entire time!
ReplyDeleteBoy oh boy that dad of yours should be proud of his work
ReplyDeleteSnorts,
Lily & Edward
the trick is not to look down! So they say, Ma kinda thinks it looks like fun...if not for all the hard work, that is! (yeah, she's not right in the head, if you haven't figured that out already!)
ReplyDeleteAnyhu, you wouldn't get MOI up there for all the margaritas in California!!!
Butts I thinks your Pops is pawsome!
Does he work for treats???
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Fantastic job...and just in time for those winter winds. You'll stay safe and warm in the workshop.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible to watch real workmen ply their trade. Thanks. Never paid much attention to chimneys.
Hey friends, there are people on your ROOF! Oh no! Did you BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK?
ReplyDeleteWhat? They are supposed to be there? Whoops, my bad. Sorry!
Nice chimney... ahem.
Licks,
Cobi
Did ya bark em?
ReplyDeleteWhat a scary job. They did great work.
ReplyDeleteYikes, that sure looks scary to us. We have bees that always swarm around one of our chimney caps. Mom worries they are making nests up there, but it is just about impossible to find anyone who will go up there to check. Any chance Joe and your Dad might be interested: :)
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Isn't it amazing how skilled workers can make some things look so easy? The new chimney looks great.
ReplyDeleteHannah says she would never, ever go up so high.
What an amazing job they do. So brave.
ReplyDeleteNicely done.
ReplyDeleteYour Mom is brave. When our Dad climbs up on the roof, Mom hides. She says she can't stand to watch.
ReplyDeleteThats a lot of work! And it looks so nice now.
ReplyDeleteWe have a problem with one of out chimneys too,,, we need to find someone to fix it before the big rains come,,, because then its leak time.
