Bye Bye Hickory Tree

We have a huge dead hickory tree in our yard. It was alive last year and this past winter did it in.   Mom guesses that it's around 75 feet tall.  The tree removal service will be here soon to take it down.
I'll watch out for them, mom!
The first branch is on the ground.    Can you see Landlord Bob sitting in his chair at the end of the Arborvitae hedge enjoying the show☺
The branches are falling one by one~
He's really high up in the Aire!
 And now for the trunk.
 He's almost there~
The tree is down with lots of clean up to do~
Mom and I made soup.   Mom made up her own recipe.   It's a chicken stock base with chicken thigh pieces in it and stewed tomatoes and a shallot and celery and carrots and spinach and chick peas and pigeon peas and I helped!
Mom always gets carried away with the Parmesan cheese~
And one more thing - the New Jersey barn will be a huge two story house with a garage underneath.  The structure is 32' X 68'.

Love ya lots♥
Molly

  3. It's good to get dead trees removed so they don't fall on your home. That would not be a good thing. You're a great supervisor, Molly.

Your moms soup looks very good and you can't put too much cheese in the soup. I'm with your mom on that one.

I linked this post to Happy Tuesday.

Have a woof woof day, Molly. My best to your mom. ♥

  6. So sad that your hickory tree died. But it's fun to watch the tree experts take it down.

My ghostwriter says it's getting to be soup time with the Fall weather arriving. Your mom's soup looks delicious!

  7. We had a bunch of trees taken down around our yard this summer too. Most of them were dying ash trees. It's quite a skill to take down those trees and not mess up anything underneath.

  8. It's always sad to see a big old tree go. I'm glad that they did it safely. The Runner has been dropping dead trees on our land - and that always makes me nervous!

  10. We had a partly dead elm tree taken down a few years ago. There was a squirrel's nest in it and there were squirrels in it. They ran everywhere. The tree has come back from the roots but we're keeping it small amount.

  12. We love seeing tree fellas working on trees. They were at our neighbours a few weeks ago take a tree down, not as tall as this one, but they still had a crane to do it!!! In the newspaper there was an article about one of the men doing this and he set fire to the top of the tree he was working on, which then set fire to the bottom of the tree! It was obviously very dry! He managed to get down before disaster struck!!!!

Your soup looks yummy. We are going to be making vegetable soup and storing it in the freezer.

    Hugs, Susie & Treacle xx

  16. Sometimes the best recipes are the ones you make up. But you have to write it down, so you can make it again...BOL!

The hickory tree brings back memories. There was a huge one across the street in Virginia when SHE was growing up. It had an abundance of hickory nuts that the squirrels just loved. Every autumn it was a glorious golden colour, then it was removed to widen the road....that beautiful, healthy tree.
