My sissy gave mom a Christmas gift that she had to put away and wait for a later date to enjoy.
On Saturday, mom opened the box and got the directions out. The first thing she had to do was to soak all of the seeds in warm water overnight. The booklet said that soaking the seeds would increase their chances of germination. The next morning, she had to "make soil". The kit comes with 9 soil discs and you soak them in warm water until they expand and basically turn into a workable dirt. Squeeze excess water out and fill the pots to the top.
Most of the seed packets directed her to sow the seeds 1/4" deep. The Basil was the only one that didn't get covered with dirt. The seeds were just scattered on the soil surface.
The directions never said to cover the seed pots but mom did anyway. She clamped clothespins on the sides of the pots to keep the plastic bags off the seeds. The plastic bags are open at the end so air can circulate inside.
And we have germination after only one day! The pot is still inside the plastic tent.
And the next day, it's on the window sill!We can't wait till more seeds germinate!
Love ya lots♥
Molly
Delightful ~ are they all spices for cooking?

ReplyDeleteHow incredible is that? Germination overnight. Wow. I can't believe my eyes.
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on the progress.
DeleteWhat a fun kit! I love it. Sounds like your mom knows what she's doing with building a mini greenhouse over her seeds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gift. Just imagine how good those homegrown herbs will taste in salads and breads and soups.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift and I am so glad your seeds have germinated. We planted some outdoors last year under glass and some came up and others didn't but we are going to have another go this year. It is too cold at the moment so will have to wait until it is a little warmer. Can't wait to see your plants when they are bigger. Stay Safe. Hugs & Love, Susie & Treacle xx
