Turning Handles

Our dad is turning on his lathe.  He's making handles for chisels and for slicks.  A slick is like a very long chisel only you push it to remove wood instead of pounding it with a mallet.  Slicks have very long handles.   The last two tools to the far right in the picture below are slicks.
Dad started out with square stock and he's making it round.

This is a chisel handle made out of oak.  Dad is sanding it while the lathe is spinning.  It's much faster this way.  You can't tell that the lathe is spinning but it is.
Molly and mom put boiled linseed oil on the handles to give them some color before the finish is applied.
Break time!
The chisels are looking good after two coats of treatment~
 Tiger maple slick~
These two slick handles are oak.  Dad put an ebony stain on them for something a little bit different.
You all know what this wood is by now☺
Our slick trunk.  It's full of slicks for the students to use when dad teaches his timber frame class.
Angel Whooper is enjoying the snow and the sunshine.

And the black swans are enjoying the sunshine too.  Dad put hay down on the ice for them and they're loving it.

 Back to work~~~

So until next time.............

A Fabric Me

You gotta see what mom made me!
 Is this cool or what!
Mom is going to make a quilt block of Molly and one of Maggie.  She's not sure yet if she wants to join all of them or keep them as individuals so that's why the edges are still raw.

Do we look alike?

Tripe Treats

We got a box in the mail from our favorite folks at Chewy!  We always know there is something yummy in the boxes they send to us!  They NEVER disappoint!
This month's treat is Evanger's Beef Tripe.  They are 100% whole meat treats - grain free and gluten free and made in the USA and you can even plump them in warm water if you want to.
Mom was expecting to be bowled over when she took the lid off and took a sniff.   We find that the Tripett beef tripe is pretty strong and she says that you sort of need a clothespin for your nose when you open the can.  Not so with the Evanger's Beef Tripe so that scored huge points from mom.
We're waiting!  What trick should we perform to get you to share, mom?
Is this not the coolest shape!  You can eat the whole thing or you can break it into pieces to use as training treats.
I prefer the entire thing, please!

 Next day ~~
We're heading out to the workshop to supervise and we're taking our Evanger's tripe treats with us.
 It's SNOWING!

Thank you so much for letting us taste-test these fabulous beef tripe treats, Chewy!  You guys rock, month after month after month!  We just love your company!
So until next time..............

My Third Birthday

Today is my birthday and I'm three years old!

It's time to PAWTY!
You all know how much I LOVE my tennis balls.   The frosting for my "cake" is cream cheese and coconut and mom tinted it tennis ball chartreuse~
The base of my "cake" is a golden Delicious apple so Mitch is just as happy about my cake as I am!
You are such an AirePig, Molly!  Don't you want to eat your cake like a lady?!
 Oh what the heck!
Nice choice for your birthday cake, Molly!
Check out my new coat for walkies!   I love the color!
And mom made me a new knitted hat.     I think I like the coat better!
What I do like about my hat is the tennis ball button ☺
We got seven inches of beautiful snow yesterday.  You will not believe this, but the weatherpeeps say that Northford (the town that I live in) got more snow than any other town in Connecticut!  They must have known that it was my birthday, right?!

I'm off to check out my birthday pressies!

So until next time.............

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss

Our gram bought mom Dr. Seuss books long ago when she was just a little girl and mom has kept her books for all these years.   Today, we are reading them and celebrating his birthday!

We are having a green eggs and ham breakfast while we read our books~~
I found two more Dr Seuss books on the bookcase, Mitch!
We sure do love your stories, Dr. Seuss!
