Mount Washington

Last Monday, our dad and Uncle Dana headed to New Hampshire to climb Mount Washington! This was dad's third time climbing this mountain!
That's Uncle Dana in shorts!  Dad told us that the highs that day were 28 degrees and wind chills at the top of the mountain were in the teens!   That smile on Uncle Dana's face must be frozen on!
Dad told us that it was VERY foggy - so foggy that it was eerie and you couldn't see too far in front of you!
He also said that they hiked in snow!
And he also said that it hailed for 2 hours while they hiked and it was hurting the top of his head and Uncle Dana's head because it was coming down so hard!
Dad doesn't look to be in too much pain. Look at that smile he's sporting!  His face must be frozen too! hehehe
Guess what we were doing while dad and Uncle Dana were hiking and freezing their hineys off?
Eating pineapple and mango topped with a wee bit of peach sherbet out of mom's fancy champagne goblets!
Which adventure would you choose?

So until next time................

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

  1. We've been freezing in the mornings, rugged up like inuits and our LOW temperatures have been between 28 to 32! (Luckily the days are in the 60s.) Are you sure it's summer there?

  2. Twenty-eight degree? LAST Monday? Wow! We would KILL for that! Yesterday, it was 95 degrees, here, with a heat index of 105. We've had ENOUGH and it isn't really even summer yet!

You dad and Uncle Dana look like they were having a good time despite the cold. We think we would have to choose the adventure of eating sherbet from the champagne glasses!

  5. That is really something to climb Mt. Washington! Your Uncle must be made of wool to survive with his short pants on.

  6. At first we were disappointed that you didn't go on that adventure with your dad but then we saw what you got to smack on and figured that climbing mountains is overrated. Congrats to your dad and uncle for toughing it out in bad conditions.

  7. We'd rather be doing what you guys were doing rather than what your dad was doing....yum pineapple and mango, peach and sherbet!!!
Big Big congrats to your dad for making it up Mt Washington. What an achievement!!!

  9. When I was young I'd have chosen the mountain. Now... the mango!

  10. Congrats to your dad and uncle for their successful climb, but I would have chosen the sherbet adventure. Freezing my hiney off does not sound fun at all.

  12. I choose to be hiking with your dad and tasting snow rain instead of staying cozy and eating...mango.
    I'm a brave boy!
    Cheers!

  13. yummm...yeah we'd be at home eating the fruit and relaxing. Climbing Mt. Washington seems like a lot of work. I mean if they need to make a sticker for a CAR that makes it to the summit it MUST be hard!

p.s. If riley passes the "object" mom and dad will be volunteering for the mt. washington race this weekend!

  17. Give me mango and pineapple and peach sherbet anytime. Glad your Dad had a good time, but we'll take gentle walks in 70 degree temps.

  18. Finni says he'd have gone with your Daddy - he loves it cold because he's got so much furs! - but I would have stayed at home with your Mummy eating nice things out of posh glasses! I like your new scarves!

  20. What an adventure! Congratulations to your dad and uncle for climbing that mountain in the snow and cold! I would say I would have done that when I was young but now I would rather be eating the sherbert! You both look very happy with it! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

  21. We were jumping up and down with excitment here today reading your post - brought back lots of wonderful memories of our trip to Mount Washington last July!

We cheated though and got the train up to the top! Murray loved looking at all your Dad's photos today - visiting Mount Washington was one of the highlights of our holiday in New Hampshire last summer.

  23. Oh, I'm definitely with you guys 0 if you have to deal with frozen stuff, 'tis much better to eat it than have to walk in it! I know all too much about being cold and wet thanks to our Earlventure. There was LOTS of snow in the Rockies, so I totally understand what your dad was hiking in!

  32. Wow, we'd be wanting to do both!

Mom drove up Mt Washington back in the late 80's - her Alfa enjoyed the trip up and bakhk down -

Part of the way down, Mom's SO/Traveling partner diskhovered why they said to pull ovFUR from time to time to khool the brakes - after of khourse they ignored the 'suggestions'

My Jeannie said she would go for the champagne goblets....filled with some fizzy, she says she had enough of our last winter to last a lifetime, and she doesn't do mountains.

But well done your Dad though!

  55. OH WOW!! That is impressive!! Three times?? Once Mommy and daddy were trying to drive up there...they couldn't because the wind was way to strong. Mommy said she was afraid of getting out of the car cuz she didn't want to get blown away. I don't want that either..
    Good job, M & M's daddy!
It seems like you guys and mom had a great time at home too!
