A Very Unhappy Mitch

A couple of days ago, Mitch started acting funny.  He stopped sleeping on his beds both upstairs and downstairs and even out in dad's workshop.
He eats fine and he pees and poos just fine and mom and dad are pretty sure it's not a medical issue.    Naturally they were very concerned.
Don't laugh too hard but the hoomans think that Mitch is whigged out by static electricity and getting pokes? So far this is the only explanation they can come up with!

Mitch walks around with his tail down, which is a sure sign that this Dale is most unhappy.
Mom flipped the blankies thinking that the fuzzy side might be giving him pokes?
She even changed his collar thinking that the chrome spots/studs on his collar might be the cause?  Mitch didn't have this collar last year.  This problem is new and it started as our temperatures got much colder.
Doesn't he took just so pathetic?
He is very clingy and loves for mom and dad to kiss him and hug him all day long if they'll play his game.
He finally settled but he avoids his bed like it's his enemy!

Static electricity doesn't bother me a bit!  I wear coats in the winter for walkies when it's below 20 degrees out and when mom takes them off in the house they snap crackle and pop but who cares?  I was warm!

Yes, you can see where my blankie has been chewed down at the right hand corner. Mitch did that while mom was in Florida.    Dad had a meeting that night and he was mad that dad left him home.
Do you think my brother is crazy?  Do any of you have this same issue?
I'm getting sick and tired of Mitch getting too much of mom and dad's attention! What about me?!

On a very sad note - our friends the Thuglets have lost their Aire-girl, Dorcus
Our hearts just ache for her family.  Dorcus was only five years old.

Run free sweet girl!

So until next time.............

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

  1. We are shocked to hear that the beds have turned static and are causing Mitch to be afraid of them. We have not had this problem but maybe your mom could rub dryer sheets on the beds to get rid of the static.

  2. We have that same problem here! It doesn't seem to bother the girls, but our mom hates it! She gets shocked every time she touches Patches. It started right after her latest Aire-cut, last week. Our beds have tops that feel like cotton and we don't seem to get shocked in them. Maybe you could wrap a sheet or something around the beds. Good luck Mitch! We hate to see you so sad!
It's really sad that the Thuglets have lost Dorcus! Another one of their Aire-kids just went to the bridge in Oct.!

  3. wow...we hate to see Mitchy looking so unhappy. We think the Static cling thing might work, or you could try rubbing Mitch with an unscented one, (or two) along with the sheet thingy. It is interesting, but Teka has more of a snap, krackle, pop problem than I do..she often makes lots of crackles when muzzer takes off her pink bone printed fleecy jumper.

We will continue to ponder why Mitch is unhappy...??

  6. I wonder if Mitch got upset with his mom being away. He might of been looking for her when she was gone and now associates his bed with worry.

  7. First off, let me say how sorry I am to hear of the loss of you friend. That is so sad!
About Mitch, I think he is worried that Santa Paws might not get his letter. I know that look and I think THAT is the problem. Tell him not to worry -- I am certain that Santa will be there on Christmas Eve....

  9. YES, we had the very same problem with Monty when he was alive. He stopped eating and dragged around. He seemed to think he was being punished when he got a zap on the nose. We worked really hard to touch something else before touching him and we kept a humidifier running and used extra fabric softener on his blankets and toys. Monty was very sensitive to noise and any little change in his environment.

  10. Hi Maggie,

...I've never heard about static and electriciticitiriti. What's that? :-) My dads say I shock them often enough...I hope it's got nothing to do with me!!!

Give Mitch a big hug and kiss from me!

    Love you lots,
    Fabrizio

  11. I'd try a new bed to be sure--a terrycloth bath mat or something. Or wash the bed covers and dry with unscented anti-static sheets. There's probably more static in winter because the air is drier. Poor Mitch!

  12. New cover for the bed!!! Poor Mitchie!!

We were also saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Dorcus. We told his humans so.

You need steam in that there house!

  13. We are very sorry about the loss of your friend. So young too. Poor Mitch. We have problems with static here...Holly's fur on her ears especially are straight up and everything I touch I get zapped. I mean everything too. It's not comfortable at all so if Mitch is getting the same reaction as I am, I don't blame him for not wanting to get on his bed if that's what is doing it. I've tried everything but something about me seems to get the static electricity going on everything! Lots of love, Holly and mom

  14. I'd be upset if my bed was shocking me too! :) But don't be sad, Mitch! New beds are expensive but maybe Santa can save up and get you one!

  15. Poor Mitch! I would definitely try a new bed cover (or the dryer sheet suggestion) - getting zapped is NO FUN. I don't blame you for being unhappy! I hope you start feeling happier soon!

A friend of D's had a spray she used to stop her skirt sticking to her tights - we hope a solution is found soon. we sure do not like seeing a sad Airedale. lots of licks

  24. Not sure what would help poor Mitch. Perhaps a new blanket that doesn't do the static thing? We love a lot of attention so we don't slight him for that. Maggie you just need to get your attention from Dad when Mitch is getting it from Mom..

Am so sorry for young Dorcus. She's so sweet in that picture.

  47. OK, stoopid STINKY does the same thing. When he gets off the bed and feels or hears the static, she jumps and looks back at the bed with a head tilt and tail between leggies. It's a good thing he has 3 second memory, so after 3 seconds, he had forgotten about it, until it happens again, but then, it just lasts 3 seconds again.

I'm like you, I'm not wussy!
