The Dollhouse

We have posted about the dollhouse before but we realize that many of our new friends have never seen it and it is truly a work of art - especially when it's clean!  Mom has been cleaning it and dusting it and it REALLY needed it badly!
What were we doing while the cleaning process was going on?
Supervising, of course!
The dollhouse was made by our gram and gramp many years ago.  It used to live at gram's house but when they made their final move from their home to senior living our mom inherited it.
The dollhouse is a little over 5 feet long so it takes up a nice chunk of wall in our family room.

Starting with the upstairs, this is one of the bedrooms.
 The nursery~
 The chapel~
Another bedroom.  Notice the furkid on the bed!
 The sewing room~
And on first floor - the game room~
 The music room~
The downstairs hallway - nope, no staircase in this house.
 The dining room~
And mom's favorite room - the kitchen!
After mom got it all cleaned up, she covered it so it would stay clean but she's not sure that she likes the way it looks.  It seems more impersonal - you can't "really" look inside and you can't touch anything.
But for now it will stay this way.
We hope you've enjoyed seeing our gram and gramp's beautiful project.  Our mom sure does love living with it!

So until next time.......

Love ya lots,
Mitch and Molly

  1. I love it every time we take a tour. Rich's dad built and furnished one for the girls that was not this elegant, but very special to all of them.

    Thank you for sharing

  6. Mom is fascinated with that doll house. There is one in our basement that Mom built from a kit back in the late 1980s. After all these years it really needs a complete overhaul. Mom keeps saying she is going to get at it. Maybe seeing how lovely yours is will get her moving. It is truly beautiful.

  8. Oh, lovely. Gram and Gramps are so lucky to know that someone is loving their masterpiece. It's hard to let go of something special, but I guess it just wouldn't fit in to their new place.

I love the drapes in the dining room.

  16. I love it - especially the dog on the bed, the spinning wheel, the nun...

I always wanted to build a dollhouse version of my father's childhood home, but sadly all those who could have provided insight are gone.

  18. The doll's house is just beautiful. The dining room looks so elegant! Loved the kitchen and the sewing room too - I like 'busy' rooms. It is all wonderful and such a lovely family heirloom.
The dust, I know, is a problem but it is good you have a cover you can see through. I have seen glass fronts on doll's houses which are also very effective for letting you see in.
Hopefully I will get back to mine soon - I had already promised myself a trip to a lovely dolls house shop to choose a xmas present for myself! Like you I have the dog but could really be doing with a house cat too.
Thanks for sharing all your great pics.

  23. Oh WOW! that is spectacular---only thing missing? an Airedale QUILT on the bed or wall.. hahah

you could cut glass and hinge it, that would seal it off to some dust.

I LOVED the Nun--laughed myself silly

    thanks for sharing!

  24. I love doll houses - I've got mine still at my Mom's house. I put a sheet of plexi-glass in front of it to keep it clean, but it you are right, it kind of ruins the whole charm.

  27. Hi, Mitch and Molly -

Mama loves dollhouses and this one is certainly beautiful. It is one of her favorite hobbies.

Her mother had one but unfortunately did not get to finish it. Now the dollhouse is with Mama's niece.
