In Purrsuit of Flavors - October Stew

This month Phenny and Nelly are making stew~

Mom has just made a huge pot of soup so a main course stew wasn't going to work for us.  Seeing as autumn is all about apples, we wondered if there wasn't an apple stew.    Apples work just as well for me as beef or chicken, mom!
We peeled and seeded and chopped 5 macoun apples because that's what we had.  We added 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of apple cider, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon of salt.   Who doesn't love the wonderful aroma of freshly grated nutmeg?!
We combined all of the above ingredients.  We covered the pan and cooked it over medium-low heat for about 35 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Let it sit for 5 minutes and you're ready to eat the apple stew!
It looks so yummy and it smells even better!
I'm goin' in!
This recipe is a keeper for sure!   Mom thought that it was going to be more like an apple sauce but it's more juicy and more spicy!  It's beyond wonderful!
We're off to see the stews that everyone else is making.

Love ya lots♥
Molly

Remember that this is a verb - to stew/stewing is something one does to food - not the food itself, although "stew" has become synonymous with that which has been cooked down well and in a sauce or gravy. It is the action of slow-cooking, specifically. Here in the UK (and OZ) stewed apples are required for making apple pie or just as something to be had with custard or cream... So this version fits the bill perfectly!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  7. It's apple season!!! We love apples, and macouns would suit our taste just fine. We don't see a lot of them here, everyone wants the honeycrisp!!! Apple stew sounds great and we bet there was a wonderful aroma floating through the house as it cooked!!!
