Northford Barn Raising Second Day

My dad was on TV this morning!

After the news mom grabbed the camera and decided to walk us both up to the barn raising site to take pictures of the progress so that you all could see how the barn was coming. It was still early here so it was pretty quiet at the barn site. The TV newsmen were just leaving. Darn! Shoot! If we had been here a tad sooner maybe we could have been on TV too!

At this point things went downhill. On Saturday, Mitch met a Brittany Spaniel that was deaf and he wanted to play with him. Charlie didn't want to play with Mitch and his mom took him home. Charlie was back today and this time I was going to give him a piece of my mind! So I crouched down like a tiger hunting his prey and when Charlie got nearer, I jumped him! Naturally fighing cries broke out and mom was REALLY upset with me! We left for home pronto and all the way home she told me how disappointed she was with me and how it was hurting her heart to say all of these mean things to me. She also told me that this would be my last barn raising because I embarassed her and my behavior was totally unacceptable.
So not only did I get reamed out but we also have no pictures to show you of the barn progress and mom is very sorry about that.

Later in the day mom walked back up to the raising for the pawty and she left her camera home because she was still so upset that I acted the way that I did.

Toby, mom said to tell you that building a timber frame barn is like putting a puzzle together. Everything has it's own spot - all the timbers and hurricane braces - and then the pieces get "nailed" together with wooden nails called pegs. The bents have to get stood up as a unit. This is the way it's done. Did we answer your question sufficiently?

On another note - I think we led you all to believe that Mitch was climbing stairs. Well, he's not! He had that one good day and now mom will occassionally find him in the hallway with his feet on the bottom step looking towards the top and she'll ask him if he wants to go up! He races off! So he's not quite there yet and I guess he needs LOTS more practice! And naturally time is moving forward and it's getting closer to vacation time so we'd best get on it!
So that was our weekend in a nutshell!
So until next time..............
Love ya lots,
Maggie

  1. Oh your Daddy is famous and what camera presence he has. He did a great job. And we are so impressed with all that barn raising business. What a meaningful thing to be involved with. We bet it does your Dad's heart good, in more than one way.

And Maggie....we don't know what to say. Tell us it was all a big mistake and that you will behave like a lady from now on. We know that Mom wants to be able to include you in all the family functions. We know that you will be better next time...promise???

We still love you Maggie, even if you did have a bad day.

  4. Maggie, We watched the clip and are so impressed with your dad and the volunteers who do this. Barn raisings are very cool. In a funny coincidence, we watched The Witness with Harrison Ford on Saturday which had an Amish barn raising. It's so exciting to see all the pieces come together.

Now about that incident. A play bow may look like a tiger about to spring -- maybe Charlie misinterpreted dog language.

But you are a terrier, so we understand. And I'm sure your mom understands too!

  5. Maggie! Maggie!

Your Daddy is famousest! His TV interview is so coolest! Now about the little incident, Maggie ... These things happen sometimes ... You just have to make sure you apologize to your Mom, okay! :)

    Your Friend,

    Putter ...:)

  6. Maggs!

Your daddy is a natural in front of the camera. If any big name producers out there saw him, he may get tagged to be on the silver screen next! Very cool project!

About Charlie... were you upset that he wouldn't play with Mitch the first time they met? After being cooped up most of the weekend you probably just wanted to blow off steam. Let it roll off of you, if you can. We all make mistakes.

I'm still pulling for Mitch. He'll get the hang of it.

    Goober love & understanding,
    Stanley

  7. Your Dad is totally FAMOUS! I bet you're gonna have tons of pupperazzi outside, now, so you'd better look your best, Maggie ;)

Sorry you got in trouble. That stinks. It was probably just because Charlie got scared since he can't hear anything, and you didn't know that, so it's not really your fault, right? :)

  9. Hey Maggie!

Oh my gosh, what a coincidence! I did the exact same thing today! I met a nice lhasa at the park today and I was so excited so I pounced on him. Well, let's just say the lil' guy didn't appreciate that & he started squealing. Mom was not exacly thrilled with my behavior either. So Maggie, it's ok. We all make little boo-boos once in a while...

Wow, your daddy was on TV! That is so super cool! And the combination of what your dad had to say and your explaination, I understand it now. Tell you're daddy he did a great job with the interview!! So professional and confident! Maybe Oprah will be calling him soon!! It's such a great cause that your dad is part of. Way to go! Four paws up for your daddy!!

As for Mitch, at least he is making progress. Maybe some more treats will do the trick. Actually maybe lots more treats. You think?

  10. Wow. your dad is really famous now. that is so cool.

we're sorry that you had to get into trouble. i'm sure you didn't mean to be mean, but that poor deaf dog just didn't know what to do. your mom will get over being mad at you because you are such a wonderful loveable girl, Maggs.

as for our little Mitch, he had better practice every day on those stairs. have your mom work with him daily to reinforce his success.

  22. Maggie:

WOW your Dad = TV. He's most handsome and looks like a PRO on camera.

Charlie - your probably scared him to death - You need to use the Airedale pitiful look on Mom.. We know you didn't mean to - maybe you should send Charlie some "I am very sorry" treats.

And Mitch - must be like potty training - only when he's ready will the stairs be done...

Try to have a good day...

  23. Oh Maggie Maggie, you got a famous daddy!!!!! He looks so young, and the camera sure loves him, great presence!

About Charlie, hmmm.... I'm gonna e-mail you because I don't want to write it in public for everypup to see that I've done the same thing before since I am an Airedale TERRRORIST. I will just e-mail you to tell you that there are some dogs we just don't like, just like hoomans don't like every hooman they meet.

So I'm gonna e-mail you to tell you all that ok? Will you keep it a secret? Because I don't want others to think I'm a bad gurrrrl because I really am a good girl just like you!!

Oh and hey, when I know I'm bad and mum's upset, I got sit in front of her and wag my tail non-stop (as if she was an un-neutered male), if she smiles, then everything is ok and I leave to do my own thing, if the sitting/tail wagging dont' work, then I add in the paw. So I sit/wag my tail, AND put my paw on mum either from the front of behind. That always makes her smile, and then I go away cause that means she's not mad anymore and I don't need to worry anymore. Try that girlie!!

  24. Aw, Maggie...I feel your pain. I get in trouble lots because there are some dogs I just don't like and never will and I want to fight with them every time I see them. The first time it happened, Mom cried all the way home & told me she wanted to pull over on the side of the road and drop me off!

Whew! Glad she didn't do that. Humans get embarrassed by us sometimes but we're just being dogs. My Mom has learned to accept that I can't do the dog park & I'm only OK with certain dogs.

Go kiss & make up with your Mom. I'll bet she'll forgive you.

  28. Awwwww! Maggie, I have only just caught up with this post, sorry!

Wow, your Dad is sooooooo clever and Jeannie says he is a very handsome guy as well (but you would know that anyway!!)

And it was amazing to see the tv news report, famous! Wow! I am soooo impressed.

oh and sorry you had a bad day, but these things happen sometimes, I am sure your Mama loves you now, these hoooooomans forget real soon you know.

love and licks from amazed Marvin xxxxxxxxx

ps from Jeannie - that broadcast was a wonderful insight into the whole barn raising thing. I had never heard of this before, when my hubby gets home tonight, we will watch it again, as he loves all things to do with wood and buildings (he is a civil engineer)

    love and light Jeannie xxxxxx
