Wheelie Wednesday - Wisteria

Hi everyone! It's me, Autumn! We are bummed for the second year in a row. Just as our wisteria was coming into bloom, we got frost two days in a row. It kills the flower buds and ruins our beautiful flower display for the entire year!
It's kind of hard to see all of the limp and dying flower buds but trust me, they're there! We wait all year to see our Cook's Purple Wisteria bloom!
This is how our wisteria is supposed to look! This photo was taken 3-4 years ago~
As you can see our wisteria has grown quite a bit and mom prunes it 2-3 times in one summer! Our artist friend, Miss Barbara, even painted an Airedale using our wisteria and our barn. No, we don't own the painting. This is one of the photos in her book. Our wisteria will bloom again this summer - "Cook's Purple" blooms more than once during the summer - but it won't be as showy because it will have leaves on the vine next time it blooms.
Dad suggested for next year that if we hear frost is coming to throw a tarp over it!
How come you didn't suggest it this year, dad?!

Our DWB calendar says that today is International Bandana day!
See you all next Wednesday!

Love,
Autumn

  1. well guys.. at least your wisteria had flowers... we own the rare and boring "green only" wisteria.. the humomm is bummed because she has only seen two..that would be TWO/2 little chains of flowers on her wisteria in......more years then i can count on my toes....she even tried threatening it. i think that's the year she got the two little purple chains. so, we're glad you had some flowers, sorry they got frozen in our crazy spring freeze..

  2. The past few nights sure have been rough on the springtime plants and flowers. Sorry that one went back to hibernating. It must have thought it was fall already.

  3. What a shame - we love to see your beautiful flowers.

Guess we need to talk to Mom about some bandannas, don't we. Maybe she'll get some of Java's old ones out for us to wear.

  6. Bummer! Well, at least you had an older photo to show us how pretty it can be - looks so picturesque against your barn! International Bandana day, eh? You might not believe this, but I actually don't have a bandana! Maybe Mason will let me borrow one of his...

  7. I'm so sorry about your flowers. They looked beautiful in the other picture. We haven't had anything to bloom this year. Not even the lilac bushes or the Dogwood tree...they just went to being green without any flowers. Strange. National Bandana Day..I better tell mom! Thanks! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

  12. Woo! Mom keeps saying this has been an odd, odd Spring weather-wise!
National Bandana Day, huh? Me and Zim will put one on if it doesn't rain too hard today. The girls don't like wearing them. I have no idea what the deal is.

  13. Sorry about the wisteria - it is always so disappointing!
It is the same here with lovely sunny days and now we are being threatened with snow!
We don't have bandanas so will need to pass on that particular celebration although we do have new collars!!!

  15. You all look great in your bandannas. We might just have to go paw at Mom to put ours on too.

Wisteria is so pretty - too bad about the frost. Mom is worried here that the violent storms we are supposed to have will spoil the blooms on her trumpet plant.

  19. You look fantastic in your bandannas. I don't think we 'do' bandannas. We don't even wear collars around the house. Enjoy your day. Now edible bandannas might be a good idea.

  20. It's a shame about the wisteria flowers Autumn. Our Wisteria is lop-sided this year. Dad 'pruned' it at the wrong time and created a hole - Mum was NOT pleased.
When we want to protect something from frost and cold we sometimes put fleecy fabric around or just over plants. It's white and very light but keeps the plants a few degrees warmer.

  23. That is such a pity about the wisteria. We've had frost here the last few nights as well as huge hailstones last night - doesn't help the plants at all!

Mom has such good hands on everything! I heard that Wisteria needs much handling and care. Bless her hands.

  36. Hi, Maggie and Mitch -

You guys got the frost - our flowers got wilted because of the rain. The irises are out now but some of them are near the ground because of the rain we had the other day. It was also verrrrrrrry chilly too.
