Forever K

You were one courageous and special girl, K, and we will never forget you. Godspeed.

FROM FRIEND TO FRIEND
You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.

But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.

That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner 'til the end.

Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.

So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.

And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay

I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
...a young dog once again.

  6. Hi,I cried when I read KB's post and now I'm crying again. This is a wonderful poem that truly sums up what our beloved pups would want, but it is sure hard to walk through that time. So much love is going out to KB now. Thanks for posting this.

  10. Such a beautiful tribute.
Too many have left for the Bridge recently, there must be a glorious party up there! Unfortunately, so many broken hearts are left behind to pick up the pieces without their furbabies.
    Blessings,
    Your furiend,

  13. I am sorry for your loss....
I cannot read the poem right now, as I fear Scooter is preparing for Rainbow Bridge..... possibly tomorrow, maybe a day or two more with luck, but he is going, I think, his back legs are so weak, he has had so many seizures since Saturday.... my poor baby... my friend of over 19 years... please send some uber barks for him, and nuzzles as he rests....

  16. Thank you so much for your support throughout K's journey with cancer and now. The poem is beautiful and perfect for someone who has to make the heart-wrenching decision for a dog who they love with all their heart. I held K in my arms as she took her last breath, and for a moment, I wished that I could go with her.

I think that you understand, for you did this with your Maggie so very recently. Your recent loss was part of why I was so very grateful for your support as K's life wended toward its end.

Today is Morning #3 without K by my side. As my husband said, just breath and put one foot in front of the other to make it through these painful days. I'm trying as I know that you did and are probably still doing since Maggie's passing.

    Thank you.
