The first batch of timber frame mallets are all done.
These still need to be buffed down and a coat of wax applied and then they're ready to use.
These are waxed and all set for use. The tiger maple mallet that is stained is in the #4 position - the one with the tiger stripes. The stain makes the stripes pop!
These mallets are all finished and waxed too. They feel so smooth and silky in your hand.
This is the next batch that are waiting for their turn to be finished.
This is our friend, Thom. He's using a timber frame mallet that dad made. He's fine-tuning a mortise on a barn that was raised this past September.
Mom says the mallets are much too pretty to use.
Dad says they're meant to be used!
So until next time............
Love ya lots,
Mitch and Molly
I agree with Mom, they're too pretty to use. I love that each is a little different and the various shades are lovely.
ReplyDeleteDoes you Dad sell them?
I too, agree with your mom, these are truly a work of art. YOu've got a talented daddy.

ReplyDeleteThat tiger maple wood is just so pretty and the mallets are perfect! My grandfather was a master carpenter and he did a lot of the cabinets with hidden draws and compartments - we have even seen a couple of his pieces on Antiques roadshow! He used to love doing hand carved wooden love spoons - have you seen those? If you google it in the images you will find heaps and I bet your Mom could do those!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your mom; they're too pretty to use! I have knitting needles that are ugly in comparison...
ReplyDeleteOh my! They are too pretty to use!
ReplyDeleteThey are all so pretty, but my favorite is always the tiger maple. We have some Stickley furniture in tiger maple. Thanks for showing me how you use the mallets. I agree that some of those should just be put on show.

ReplyDeleteYour daddy has done beautiful works! Your mom is the best cook and your daddy is so talented. How lucky you are! :) :)
So sorry to hear about your beautiful sib Dauby. Now we can see Dauby and Angel Maggie play together and smile each other in the very nice place. She will be missed.
Momo & Pinot xo
Your dad is very talented. Mum hates it when our dad says he is going to d.i.y. She normally does it herself or gets someone in to do it. It is quieter and less swearing that way!!
ReplyDeletelots of love, Wilberforce and Higgins xx
When I saw your other post I wondered what those pretty things were used for ~ wacking ~ well I thought they looked like ahort chair legs or tall fat finials. I wanted to ask but I thought I would sound stupid. Lee has a rubber mallet that she wacks things with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a friend

I agree with both your mom and dad. They are so beautiful that it's nice to just look at them. On the other hand, how wonderful it would be to use fine tools like that.
