We have been lax in posting updates on the new members of our waterfowl family.
We did blog about Dauby's passing. We miss her ever single day.
You all heard about the 3 lardbuttfatasses, as we call them. They're domestic Grey Lag/African goosie mixes and the largest female is a loud mouth who thinks she rules the pond. That's them on the right side of the picture. When dad had them flown here from South Carolina, he was planning on them being true Grey Lag geese. OOPS!
And of course, our dad being dad, kept hunting until he finally found a true pair of Grey Lag's so we now have true Grey Lags that have joined the flock.
And of course, our dad can never be happy with what he has so this past Wednesday, 3 more Grey Lag geese arrived from New York. They're on the left side of the picture and they're getting friendly with another Grey Lag goosie that was from the first shipment.
Dauby's mate, Margaret is still with us. She's a nice mute swan and gets along with everyone. We still have the Flintstones - the Barnacle geese. They're the ones standing at the edge of the ice. They are the cutest, nicest most friendly little guys ever! Everyone loves them.
You know that Gussie's wife, Myrtle died. She was killed by being too friendly to a predator and it breaks our heart to think about it. Dad decided that Gussie needed a mate so he has added Buster, who is also a male black swan. Buster is laid back and Gussie is the more aggressive of the two. We shall see what happens when they're let out of their pen in the spring. So far the boys are doing great together!
This is Penny. She's a young mute swan, actually still considered a cygnet. She still has her grey baby feathers. She'll turn white and have an orange beak like Margaret does when she's an adult.
Penny arrived yesterday and she's very timid and sweet as can be. She still peeps like a baby swan does. She will be staying penned up until she gets a wee bit older. We hope that she and Margaret will become the best of friends.
And I, Miss Molly, went to PetSmart this morning and had my nails trimmed and after that, mom and I took the car to be washed. It was my very first time at the car wash only I didn't stay inside the car - I got to go inside with mom. As mom and I stepped out of the car to go inside, we spotted a pretty penny - another hello from our sweet angel Maggie! Thank you, Maggie! Not a day goes by that we don't think of you~
So until next time...........
Love ya lots,
Molly
You sure have a lot of birdies at your house. I'd probably be chasing them all the time. Just what us weenie dogs do...
ReplyDeleteWe miss Angel Maggie too. Glad she sent you that penny. Tell her to make it a dollar the next time! Just sayin'.

Boy, you have a lot of birdies. You must have a most beautiful pond. Good thing, I don't tell Beckett to chase birdies any more.
ReplyDeleteWow all that action on the big pond. We love it. My Peeps and old Pip use to take a french loaf to feed Mr and Mrs Swan. They would bite the end. Peeps won't go with me as I am not to be trusted. Peeps says I'd get into trouble. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly

It's going to be a very busy pond next summer. Mom loves your swans. She used to raise Mallard Ducks so she enjoys reading about your birds.

Thank you for the lovely post Miss Molly. We now feel like we're a little more informed on geese and the like! It's nice your mama took you to the car wash. Maybe especially so you could get to see the Maggie-penny too. She was a sweet girl.

We are sooooo sooooo sorry about Dauby! I bet Dauby and Maggie are together now! Sorry we haven't been around for awhile...we are just now catching up. Your dad's mallets are gorgeous! He is a very talented woodworker! My dad would be impressed! It's too bad they have to get messed up by actual use!
ReplyDeleteAire-hugs,
Patches
Wow a lot of comments!! I hope a lot of bloggers will come and see or movie!!!
ReplyDeleteLove all the birds but doesn't it smell bad when it warms up??? They do poop and poop!!!
I love waterfowl of all kinds, really, really, really. All that flapping and squawking, that wonderful fishy smell and the skin-care items they leave on the beach for doggies to roll in.
ReplyDeleteBut Mom never lets me near 'em!
Yr friend,
Miro
Hi Mitch & Molly, we like birds too. Mostly it's just me and Owen though. The shelties don't really care. My peeps miss their other kids too. It's the 1,000 yard stare.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww! :)
ReplyDeleteWe just love your beautiful flock. You 2 are such good Airedales to live in harmony, no bark, no chase.
ReplyDeleteEvery time wild ducks land in our pond, we chase them off!
Wyatt and Stanzie
You have some beautiful birdy friends. I love when Angel Maggie sends you pennies. She is around even if you can't see her,
ReplyDeleteLoveys Sasha
Beautiful, beautiful birdies! And we LOVE the penny from Maggie!
ReplyDeletePlay bows,
Zim
Aww Dauby...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry if it hurts that I ask.. About Myrtle, what kind of predator got her?
We have swans coming our region every winter, they are totally totally breathtaking to watch. Like I've said, the place you live is a paradise.
You two have an awful lot of birds around. Mama says that the swans are probably as big as us!
