My New Coat

For the record just so you know - I don't like coats - I never have.   I run when mom tries to put them on me.  They're silly and dumb but I've had to get used to them.

We've been having cold weather and we walk early in the morning and sometimes it's not only cold but windy and she says that when the temps goes below 20 degrees, the coats come out.   And since I've been on prednisone, my fur is not the same.  Do you think I'm going to go bald, mom?

I've been wearing angel Maggie's denim coat but it looks silly on me because it's too short.  It's supposed to reach the base of my tail and it doesn't.   Picture me in a mini-skirt.

A package arrived a couple of days ago and it's a beautiful new coat.   It looks long enough when I'm sitting but it isn't.   As soon as I stand on all fours, it's 3" too short.  I need the coat to come to the base of my tail.  I hardly have an furs on my tail!  This coat must be returned.
So mom took matters into her own hands and went fabric shopping.
I'm ready for my first official walk in my new warm coat, mom~
It's 7 am and around 10 degrees.   brrrrrrrrrr
The velcro strips wouldn't hold so mom had to add buttonholes and buttons.   It's definitely long enough but it's sliding to the side.  Maybe the button is too big and heavy.
Mom says the brown is boring and we need to personalize it just for me☺
Our wooscotti are almost all gone!   We need to bake more, mom!
Love ya lots♥

  1. Although the coat is not quite right, it does look very smart and how wonderful your Mom made it for you. Our first Airedale, Kelly, had a heart murmur so she always went out with a coat in winter and it was made of rain proof fabric made by Barbour and it had a fleece lining to keep her warm. She loved the coat and it kept her dry. I am sure your Mom will sort it out and personlise it just for you Mitch. Hugs, Susie & Treacle xx

  2. A loop of thin elastic on the end of the coat that can go over your tail will help keep it in place. Mom has always found it much easier to make her own dog coats as that is the best way to get on to fit.

  4. I don't like coats either Mitch, but the older I get, the better they seem. I have gone through a few (ahem) body size changes, and now that I am more svelte, we have found a few that we like.

Teka will wear anything that is pink and has ruffles.

  10. Ha you'll laugh at me but poor Daisy had to wear a trash bag a few weeks ago when we had a manoon. He blew off half across the drive. Duh mom! His coat looks fabulous. You did a great job. Daisy doesn't need one for cold but she sure could use a raincoat. I've seriously thought about making one using dads old windbreaker. (it's too litle Hehe)
Ya'll have a great week. Enjoy the cookies I'm sure mom will get more.

  11. I don't like wearing things either but if it got as cold here as at your house, I think I would be begging for a coat.

    Aroo to you,

  12. Your Mom is so good to make that beautiful coat for you. Mom says she was very happy with the coat she got for Phantom from Orvis. It velcroed around the neck and had a double row of wide strong velcro on the body parts. It was nice and warm too. We wish he were still here to wear it:(

    Mmmm, wooscotti!!!

  13. We think the coat is definitely long enough. Now that your mum has made the pattern, she can make you a whole wardrobe. We can't move in coats, so we're glad it doesn't get very cold here.

  14. That's a very nice coat. Too bad our ghostwriter no longer has her sewing machine. Our Joey dog is getting older, and not as well insulated as I am, and could probably use a coat too.

  15. Our mom made a pattern like that.... she had to use TWO strips of Velcro to hold it in place RIGHT... it took a little figuring out... to get them so they fit just Pawfectly... butt we KNOW if our mom can do it... YOUR mom can DO EVEN BETTER... and make a BUNCH of Coats that are all Stylish and Stuffs fur you. THEN you will like them a LOT!!!
We think YOUR mom did a GRRRREAT job with this one.... She will IRON out the SQUIRRELS in NO TIME...

  18. Whut a handsum coat!

If da button is so heavy it is makin' it pull to da one side... maybe a button on da other side, too, to balance it out?

To keep our coats and jackets closed, we use wide velcro... they even have an "industrial strength" kind that would be sure to work!

  19. Your mom made you a beautiful coat Mitch! Chloe does not like coats either and will run the other direction to avoid putting one on!! LadyBug is the opposite and she prefers to wear her clothes!!

Prednisone does a real number on the furs...hope you don't have to be on it too long.

The coat will keep you nice and warm Mitch! Enjoy your special cookies too!!

  25. You look very handsome in your new coat. How is Mom going to trim it? Maybe a silhouette of a Dale? Samba had to wear a coat after she got sick because her hair was very thin and patchy.
