The Groundhog Story Continues

I was in the yard on the leash doing my groundhog patrol.   Mom and I didn't spot any unusual activity so I became leash-free.     I was humped up in the corner of the yard doing my business facing THE OTHER WAY when mom noticed a woodchuck racing for the escape route.   I didn't see him but mom sure did and she also heard a funny whistle noise.  They call groundhogs whistle pigs because of the noise they make.  They make this noise when they feel scared or threatened.

Later this same day,  I was upstairs checking out my bedroom window~
We have TONS of squirrels in our neighborhood~
And there he is!    He's heading for the brush pile that LandLordJohn left.
He must not like Gerbera Daisies, thank goodness!   And he doesn't like California Poppies or newly planted peonies.
We have to thank a couple of our blogging buddies for letting us know that dried blood and blood meal can make pups sick if they ingest it.   The other side of the fence is pretty overgrown and we don't think the woodchucks would even notice if we sprinkled the blood meal over there.
For now - mom has decided to leash me when we head outside and do our patrol duty.   The woodchucks do run if they see danger coming.  They're not looking for trouble and we sure don't want any so once mom knows that it's safe - I can be off leash to sniff and play.

Love ya lots♥

it's better to stay on a leash... imagine that groundhog would whistle directly in your fabulous that noise would stay for 87 hours with ya...

A Groundhog of your very own!!!!! Wow, how exciting.
I didn't nose that about the whistling thingy though, that's interesting!
I might have a go at whistling in my garden see if I can attract one of my very own

Oh gosh, that's quite an adventure. I have never seen one of these creatures in real life. Of course, I don't even notice squirrels - my assistant is baffled by that. LOL

Is there a company in your area that catches and releases varmints back into a
native environment. Like the people that remove snakes and skunks?
Boy it sure can be scary with him roaming around.
Good luck!
Ya'll have a great week. Watch out for critters.

Wow! You've had some busy times on critter patrol at your place! I saw a bunny yesterday evening. Too bad it was in the front yard, where I don't have jurisdiction.

Oh goodness me, just when you think it is safe to go back in the grass, tee hee!!!! Couldn't resist the Jaws ref!!!!! But it is better to be safe than sorry and make sure you are safe and not sorry! Your squirrel is a very pretty colour, even though they are a nuisance, ours are just grey and very much a nuisance!!! Have a lovely day, Hugs, Susie & Treacle xx

That sounds like a good plan to us. We had moles in our front yard a few years ago (actually turned out to be just one), and Mom and Dad hired Critter Control to help get rid of it. Maybe something like that would work too. Maybe they could do a trap and relocate deal.

Our neighbor put some fireworks down a mole mound hole and out blew mole babies and a big fat mole. There dog grabbed the mole and killed it and I think the babies were already dead. 4th of July fireworks show what people will do for entertainment.

Good idea to go out there and let that Groundhog know you're there so he'll RUN! Maybe if you're out there often he'll go into someone else's garden!

We have creatures that wander through our yard, but no one lives close enough to take up residence. I imagine this makes things challenging at night, in the dark!

We have a ton of squirrels and moles that drive Pierre CRAZY! He has caught several but they keep coming back.
