We are joining Rosy today for Nature Friday~~
Look at the hoof print we found in our yard. It's been a wet week and the ground is soft.
A few days ago, we were outside and I was doing my business. Mom was laughing at the squirrels trying to figure out how to get into the feeder. She's not laughing anymore. They figured it out! It's time to move out, little evil buddy! Share some with the birdies too! The squirrels seem to have brought the birds with them. We've seen chickadees and tufted titmice and blue jays and a woodpecker and a lady cardinal and it makes mom happy - so happy that she has suet on order that will be arriving soon☺ Our friend, Lisa, tells us to get peanuts to toss on the ground to feed the squirrels. Maybe then they'll leave the bird seed alone?!
Our Christmas cactus is in full bud, which surprises mom because she constantly prunes it all year long to keep it inbounds but stops snipping the tips around November first. When the Christmas tree is on this table, there isn't enough room for the Christmas cactus and the tree so it gets sifted from an east window to a west window. We are hoping that this year not too many buds fall off without opening. To the right of the photo is the amaryllis that my sissy gave mom for Christmas. It's the first time we've ever grown one of these so we will see how it progresses.
Mom's latest puzzle was a Christmas gift from Miss Laurie. Thank you again, Laurie♥ What a fun puzzle and not as easy as it looks!
This has been a wet week with temps that are very warm for January. We haven't walked as much as we NEED to and sadly, it's raining again this morning.
Happy Friday, everybuddy!Love ya lots♥

ReplyDeleteOh you are getting peculiar weather too? I can't believe it is nearly 10'C/50f outside the Hutch today. Jus' ain't normal I tells ya! Are we skipping winter and going straight to spring? Maybe your zygocactus thinks so too? ... what a pretty puzzle! Hugs and wags, YAM-auntyxxx
Love the puzzle! I have resorted to working puzzles on my phone! No 1000 pcs., but good enough to occupy my quiet time.
ReplyDeleteYay for the feeder discovery. I actually like squirrels dining too!!
Fingers crossed for the cactus blooming!!!
Have a terrific weekend M&M.
We are termed 'mostly cloudy' today -
ReplyDeleteI hope you can snag a walk -
And oh those squirrels - we've always read - and used - cayenne pepper in the seed to deter those tree rats - tree lobstahs!
H&K&W,
Willow
Those pesty squirrels need to learn who that feeder really is for. Maybe you could put a domed baffle above the feeder to keep them off of it.
ReplyDeleteIs that a deer hoof print?
ReplyDeleteAs for squirrels don't even get me started on them. I know every buddy has to eat but no buddy needs to be a piggy or a bully or not know how to share. It took many tries to get our bird feeder 4 hook pole in the exact spot that a squirrel could not get too. I forget all the magic measurements but the pole has to be at least 6' from any surface a squirrel could use as a launch pad and the pole must have a barrel baffle on it. They can somehow figure out how to get up and over one of the baffles that looks like an inverted cone of shame. Unfortunately it is not in the center like my mind's eye would like for it to be though. Your cactus is gorgeous.
Love you lots too
Cecilia
Lulu: "It finally stopped raining here, but that just means the roofers are back, and it sure is noisy up there right now!"
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "We could use some squirrels to distract us, if you want to send us some!"
Oh lovely nature photos ~ Molly you are the best photo, though ~ Xo
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

The Christmas cactus looks very healthy and pretty. I don't have any place where I live now to get one to bloom (the 16 hours of darkness for a week required in a cool place) so I gave up owning one.
ReplyDeleteOur Mama also is happy when she sees lots of birds at the feeders...Luckily, our squirrels must be hibernating...lucky for them that is LOL
ReplyDeleteWe hope the weather is good for walkies this weekend!
xoxo,
Rosy and Sunny
That's too much rain for you to have fun walks sweet Molly, but I hope it improves soon. That pesky squirrel was up to the challenge you all gave him.
ReplyDeleteDoing your business. lololol. That face! That face! Too cute.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I think Big Foot is living next door to you
ReplyDeleteTry sprinkling some hot pepper flakes or powder on the birdie seeds and suet. The squirrels hate it, but the birdies can't taste it.
ReplyDeleteMy mom loves puzzles. That's a big foot print.
ReplyDeleteWe put out a mix of bird seed and dog kibble. The woodpeckers and jays prefer the dog food. The cardinals and titmice eat it too. The squirrels don't like it.
ReplyDeleteIt must be fun to see all the birds come to the feeder, the squirrels not so much. Mom has three smaller Christmas Cacti, and two of them bloomed the week of Christmas. She too was surprised because she pretty much ignores them. They aren't as well-shaped and green as yours. Mom could use some lessons from yours.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun puzzle. Mom likes that it is not a dark one. It is hard to find the pieces when there is a lot of dark scenery. She is working on one she got for Christmas with a bunch of dogs in it.
Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Wow! We have been seeing tons of birds now that the weather is warmer. And the squirrels...grrr. Kozmo and I have been chasing them, but the snow is still pretty deep and now it is slushy...we don't like getting our paws wet up to our elbows and bellies. Mom bough a new Christmas Cactus this year, as some unknown cat knocked the last one (it was 10 years old) onto the floor and it got kind of broken to bits. Our new one dropped all of its buds. Mom is hoping it will bloom next year as it is really healthy. That puzzle looks like fun! And we do hope that it dries out and you get to go for some great romps! Purrs Marv
ReplyDeleteWe put squirrel food in the feeders to get them into our yard. Mom knows how much we love chasing them so it makes things more fun. Hopefully your birds will stick around. It has been great weather here but now it will start getting warm and that makes us sad. Winter needs to be cold.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Molly and Happy belated Birthday Melissa!! Whoa, the Christmas cactus is very pretty!!
ReplyDeletea happy (very belated) birthday and a happy 2023 for you... with only good and funny moments...
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your Christmas cactus. And fighting those pesky squirrels.
ReplyDeleteWe also use sunflower seeds our birds love them. A great puzzle, so pretty. Your Christmas cacti looks amazing what a great colour. Sorry your weather has been wet and horrible we hope it clear us soon. we hate the rain. Hugs & Love, Susie & Coco xxxxx
