Tasty Tuesday

Mom ran out of the muffins that she likes with her morning coffee.  She could have gone out or she can make homemade bread☺

English Muffin Bread

2 1/2 cups flour - divided, 1 package of yeast, 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon baking soda, 1 cup warm milk, 1/4 cup warm water.

In a large mixer bowl, combine 1 cup flour, yeast, sugar, salt and soda.  Add the milk and water and beat on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl occasionally.  Beat on high speed for 3 minutes.   Stir in the remaining flour by hand.   The batter will be stiff and you make have to knead it a few times to get all of the flour.    Grease and 8" x 4" pan and sprinkle it with cornmeal.  Put the batter in the pan and sprinkle with cornmeal on the top. It gives the bread a crunchy taste.  Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk - about 45 minutes.   Bake at 375 degrees for approx 35 minutes.   Remove bread from pan as soon as you take it out of the oven.

The crust spread with butter~
Yes, please!
Mom has made this bread three or four times and it always comes out perfectly!

  5. My mouth is watering I love English muffins with all the crevices for the butter to hide. Yeast and I have agreed to stay in our own corners.................Does the yeast have to be put in warm water or just add to ingredients, this looks like something I might be able to do.
