Mom has been searching the intermuts a lot lately to see if she can't find
something natural that will help Mackie heal faster from this dreaded kennel cough. Mackie doesn't have that doG-awful hacking cough that is associated with this illness. It's more of a reverse-sneeze gagging sound that comes out of him. He's still sneezing and it sends disgusting germs everywhere and the poor boy's mouth and nose are always wet.
She discovered this honey that's native to New Zealand and parts of Australia and it's called
manuka honey.

"How can Manuka honey help your dog?
Many
dog owners have long known about Manuka honey, applying it to wounds
for quicker healing times. Manuka can also be applied to cuts or burns,
or to treat any kind of wound or infection.
Manuka can also be
used internally for conditions such as kennel cough, by alleviating many
of your dog’s symptoms. Depending on your dog’s size, a dose of 1/2 to 1
teaspoon three or four times a day may do the trick. Choose a UMF10+ or
more or an MGO™100 (Bronze) or higher.
Manuka can also be used to treat allergies, digestive issues and
stomach ulcers. A good maintenance dose for your pooch should be
anywhere from 1/2 to 1 teaspoon a day. Again, dosage depends on the size
of your dog.
Cautions:
Manuka, as
with all honey, contains a high sugar content, so if your dog is
diabetic or overweight, it’s best to consult your veterinarian before
giving Manuka to your dog. Manuka is not recommended for dogs under a
year of age. Manuka may contain bacteria that your puppy isn’t ready to
fight off. Adult dogs have no problems with it."

We have a
natural food store that's only a mile away from us so mom took a ride down and came back with a jar of it. It's not cheap but hey, if it works than it's worth it, right?!
It's not runny and messy. It's soft but firm.
And Mackie loves it! Hold still, Mackie - you're blurring the picture!
So paws and fingers are crossed that it helps Mackie to heal.
Oh and btw, so far, so good for me. I'm not showing any kennel cough signs and neither is Jett, according to dad. We are hoping and praying that it stays this way and the sickness doesn't spread any further!
Love ya lots♥
Molly and Mackie
