Our New Roof

Mom and dad have been busy.   Dad is putting a new roof on this portion of our house.  It's needed to be done for so long and it's finally getting the attention that it deserves!

Our mom is not a person who likes heights and she doesn't "do" roofs!
Dad needs help with this project.  He can't do it all by himself.  We have called in Flat George to supervise because our over protective mom doesn't think that we should be up on the roof keeping things going.
Dad told mom that this roof is not steep at all.  She reluctantly said she'll pick up the shingles that dad rips off.   One of the good points is the chimney. If she trips, how far can she roll?  It's big so mom feels pretty safe and secure.  She does - REALLY!
OMG, look how far down our front yard is!  Better step back before you pass out, mom!
The brown thing and the blue thing are tarps to cover the roof if it should happen to rain.   We have had LOTS of rain this year and rain is still in the forecast!
This is the roof on the main part of our house.  It was shingled a few years ago.  Mom is very thankful for this because no way would she be up on THAT roof!  Be careful up there, FG!
All we see from up here are roofs!   Don't look out, mom!  It gives you the feeling that you're falling!
The garden looks pretty good and weed-free from up here!
Time to climb down.   Going down is not as easy as climbing up.  UGH!
We're inside the room that needs the new roof.  You can see that we did take on rain.  Thank goodness that the water didn't find its way to the finished ceilings on the first floor!
Do you like our hot pink chimney? It's been this color  for as long as we've lived here.
Thanks for your help keeping our mom and dad safe, Flat George, and for keeping them steady and on track!  We owe you!
We'll update you again on the roof project when it gets farther along.

So until next time................

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

  3. It looks like Flat George is doing a great job of snoopervising! Our mom is afraid of heights, too. Her knees got weak just seeing how far your roof is from the ground!

  4. Oh no! My momma would never ever get on a roof. Plus she would be useless for any work once she arrived. I sure hope that your humans stay safe. FG will assist no doubt.

  5. OMD! That is a scary roof. Muzzer hasn't been on a roof since we left the flat ones behind in Azrizona. Hmmmm...maybe there is something to be said in favor of moving every two years.

  9. That Flat george is a good guy to have around, he can do all kinds of stuff!

Our momma can barely get on a ladder no matter how little it is, so she would prolly just pass out iffin someone wanted her to get on the roof.

  19. Hi Maggie and Mitch - was your mom really up there? It sure looks high. We have a steeper roof but my mom and dad had some roofers come by to remove the old shingles and to put new ones down. Hope everything goes well.

  22. Hi M & M! Those pictures are awesome - great views! We just re-did our roof too (well, we = dad and some friends) and it took us so long with all the rain we've been having. Had to stop and tarp it up many times!

  24. We may have to hire your Dad - we are still waiting for the roofers to start on our roof. It is either too wet or too windy for the crews to get up on our VERY steep roof. They say maybe tomorrow, but Mom will believe it when she hears the banging.

Your Dad is so handy - but do tell him and Mom to be careful up there.

  41. Hi Mitch and Molly! I’m so glad to see you guys helping your dad out in fixing the roof. You’re so brave to go up there and help him out! I’m sure he really appreciated it and made fixing the roof easier. I hope your mom wasn’t too scared while she was up there! How is your roof looking now? I hope that you guys haven’t had any problems with it, since you guys fixed it together a year ago. :D

  43. It's nice to see the whole family helping each other out in doing jobs like this. It might not be their profession, but they do their best to help, especially your mom even if she was SO scared of heights. :) But, I salute her for overcoming her fear. How's your roof since then, by the way? Have you replaced the entire roof completely?

  44. It’s a good thing we can trust Flat George to supervise the renovations, and kudos to your dad for finishing the repairs! By the way, it is good to always check the condition of the gutters, roof, and chimney to help extend their lifespan and ensure that your home is properly protected against the rain, wind, and snow. ;) P.S. The hot pink chimney looks very interesting!

  45. Are there any updates on your roof? Did Sandy hit the place where you live? The pink chimney is very cool. You should always check if there are lingering leaks developing in your chimney, and seal them up right away if ever there are some.

  46. Kudos to your mom for overcoming her fear! How’s the roof now, by the way? Is it still well-maintained? Are there any updates on roof maintenance? Hope everything is going well for you guys. And it sure is nice for the family to bond while doing house repairs.
