The Bedroom Project

Hi everybody! It's me, Mitchy Boy!

Mom and dad have a project to keep themselves busy this winter and that would be re-doing my sissy, Missy's bedroom over! Missy slept in this room until she went away to college and once she finished college she moved out and the room became empty and it served as a guestroom for my gram and gramp when they used to come and visit but it was never finished and "nice" and mom always felt badly about it. So mom is getting her wish after all these years - a brand spanking new guestroom that she can be proud of rather than apologize for!
I'm locked out because mom says this is a work zone and there are too many dangerous things that I can get myself into!
Let me in, mom! I promise I'll be a good boy!
How come he gets to be on the inside with you and I can't be? Help me out and open the gate for me, okay, buddy!
Before mom and dad got Maggie, they had an English Bulldog named Bubba Louise. She (yes, it was a she named Bubba) was a brindle and white girl and lived to the ripe old age of 13 years old before she went to the Rainbow Bridge.
The plaster has been ripped off the walls and the brown painted floor boards are being taken up. Plywood is being laid down as the first layer of floor and the finished floor will go on top of the plywood eventually.
The project today is to remove the radiator and get plywood down underneath it and refill the system so that we can have heat in this room! Dad and his friend, Bob, have already done the plumbing work in the basement so there are shut-off valves to make the job a whole lot easier! Trust me, you do NOT want to see the basement! You would have nightmares for YEARS to come!

Our house was built in 1824 and it still has all of the accordian lathes that they plastered over. It's a dirty, dusty mess to take plaster off the walls but if you want to proceed with the pretty stuff you have to be willing to go backwards and eat dust and dirt for awhile! This is the not-so-fun part of the project!Aftet the radiator is back in and working mom and dad will do the electrical portion of the project. This will be an on-going job for a few weeks so I'll update you all again when there's something exciting to report! By the way, Maggie only comes upstairs to be groomed, have a bath or go to sleep at the end of the day so she will most probably never be your friendly neighborhood reporter! Maggie is not really that fond of the stairs!

So until next time................

Yer friend,

Mitch

  7. Wow Mitchy. Your dad does plumbing work and your mom and dad do electrical wiring?? No wonder you get your house redone. My parents are total dimwits when it comes to home reno, so that's why are house is collapsing brick by brick, and will probably be a heap of dust by the end of the year! We're really impressed... is your basement haunted? Yow, it looks scary...
I'm sure the guestroom is going to be just beautiful when all the work is done!

  12. Old houses are so cool, but such a lot of work, huh? We really miss the "character" of homes with history. Florida is all so relatively NEW ... nothing here is much over 100 years old ...

  13. Hey Mitch,

That looks like an awful lot of work. They should let you help. The more paws, the better.

When you said that your family was redoing the guest room I thought that you were just changing the curtains and furniture. But you guys are changing everything! It will be so much fun to shop for all the new bedroom stuff. Maybe Maggie can help with that.

    Good luck with your project.

  14. That's going to look so great when you get done! Mom wants you guys to come on over -- her kitchen would be so easy compared with what you're doing now! (heh heh) It's already half ripped up now these past 3 years...

  15. Wow! That is one hooooge project! We can't wait to see it when it's all done. We think it is VERY cool that your house was built in the 1800's! They sure don't build them like they used to! Our mom is wondering if you have any ghosts? That would be really cool...as long as they are friendly!
