The Cupola Raising

Hi everybody! It's me, Mitch! Mom and I went to a cupola raising this morning! It was in Northford on the same street that we live on! Maggie had already walked 2 miles and mom decided that she needed a rest at home, so we gave her a nice big cookie, kissed her good-by and headed up the street! Sorry the picture is kinda blurry but I was in a big hurry to get there! I'm always in a big hurry!Dad was already there when we got there! My dad and mom built this cupola months ago and today is the day that it finally is getting raised in place by a big crane! You can see in this picture how large these cupolas are! Once they get up on the roof they look so much smaller! This extra wood that isn't painted is rigging so the crane will have no problem lifting it!This is the weathervane that's on the top. It's an indian!

This video shows the cupola leaving the ground and going up, up, up to land right on that roof! The crane makes it look so easy!

This is the cupola sitting on the roof! Those men that are up there will be bolting it down and securing it permanently so it won't move and it won't leak! The rigging will be taken off and it'll be a work of art for everyone to see when they drive down our street forever!Yesteday dad spent the day making chicken soup and sausage and peppers to serve to anyone who joined us here today so mom and I are off to head home and heat the soup and wait for the troops to arrive back in our barn! What a neat morning we had!

So until next time................

Yer friend,

Mitch

  4. Hi, Maggie and Mitch -

The video and pictures are pawsome. Mama used to have a cupola in the apartment house where she used to live. It was over the living room and you had to climb a rope ladder to see the view.

Hope you are enjoying the weekend.

I can't believe Mumsie...she had NO IDEA what a cupola was and she couldn't for the life of her figure out what ya needed a crane for...(she thought it was supposed to just stand like that on the ground....what the heck...she probably thought people were supposed to come and drink cupolas of tea inside it...what, Mumsie? You did? Sheesh...see what we have to live with?)

Oh my...that was amazin' seein' it fly up to the top of that barn...and the weathervane is soooo cool!!

  16. Somethin' tells me that Gram 'n Pap shoulda consulted with yer Dad n Mom ta ask what kinda porch roof would look great on our cottage. We were up there this week ta put one over the front deck but the power went out after a huge wet snow storm 'n broken trees 'n stuff....no power fer 3 days 'n we came home on day 2....Our cottage has a gambrel roof with a dormer in front 'n back and we're goin' back again after the election ta work on that roof....the wood is all there just waitin'....but yer Ps are just super at that stuff....we coulda asked anyway fer an opinion.....love the cupola......ya just do the best work....congratulations on another job well done.....we're sure Maggie 'n Mitch had a lot of input ta make the job so perfect...

That's really quite a feat getting that cupola up on that roof. That was nice of your dad to make soup and sausages for everyone. I hope you got to taste some of the goodies since you were at the event!!
