Hi everybody! It's me, Mitch! Mom and I went to a cupola raising this morning! It was in Northford on the same street that we live on! Maggie had already walked 2 miles and mom decided that she needed a rest at home, so we gave her a nice big cookie, kissed her good-by and headed up the street! Sorry the picture is kinda blurry but I was in a big hurry to get there! I'm always in a big hurry!Dad was already there when we got there! My dad and mom built this cupola months ago and today is the day that it finally is getting raised in place by a big crane! You can see in this picture how large these cupolas are! Once they get up on the roof they look so much smaller! This extra wood that isn't painted is rigging so the crane will have no problem lifting it!This is the weathervane that's on the top. It's an indian!
This video shows the cupola leaving the ground and going up, up, up to land right on that roof! The crane makes it look so easy!
This is the cupola sitting on the roof! Those men that are up there will be bolting it down and securing it permanently so it won't move and it won't leak! The rigging will be taken off and it'll be a work of art for everyone to see when they drive down our street forever!Yesteday dad spent the day making chicken soup and sausage and peppers to serve to anyone who joined us here today so mom and I are off to head home and heat the soup and wait for the troops to arrive back in our barn! What a neat morning we had!
The video and pictures are pawsome. Mama used to have a cupola in the apartment house where she used to live. It was over the living room and you had to climb a rope ladder to see the view.
Oh Wow...muzzer says she held her breath til it got up on the roof, but I don't think so .. I heard her suck in air a couple of times. (she's a bit afraid of heights, ya know)
What a cool thing you and Mag and your Mom and Dad are part of. Thank you for sharing.
I can't believe Mumsie...she had NO IDEA what a cupola was and she couldn't for the life of her figure out what ya needed a crane for...(she thought it was supposed to just stand like that on the ground....what the heck...she probably thought people were supposed to come and drink cupolas of tea inside it...what, Mumsie? You did? Sheesh...see what we have to live with?)
Oh my...that was amazin' seein' it fly up to the top of that barn...and the weathervane is soooo cool!!
Um..is there any chicken soup and sausage left? We're hungry and cold!!!
That is sooo neat. Mom remembers seeing those on old barns when she lived in Massachusetts. It is indeed quite an artform. Thanks for sharing the video. Hugs Sunny&Scooter pee ess Petra pot pie won!!
w00f's maggie and Mitch, how cool!! u pups iz always doing sumthing fun..mama wanted me to ask ur pawents iffin they ever watch a show on HGTV, called "haulin house". she says its a cool show, but hmm me not think it iz, its not goted dogs in it...
Somethin' tells me that Gram 'n Pap shoulda consulted with yer Dad n Mom ta ask what kinda porch roof would look great on our cottage. We were up there this week ta put one over the front deck but the power went out after a huge wet snow storm 'n broken trees 'n stuff....no power fer 3 days 'n we came home on day 2....Our cottage has a gambrel roof with a dormer in front 'n back and we're goin' back again after the election ta work on that roof....the wood is all there just waitin'....but yer Ps are just super at that stuff....we coulda asked anyway fer an opinion.....love the cupola......ya just do the best work....congratulations on another job well done.....we're sure Maggie 'n Mitch had a lot of input ta make the job so perfect...
That is impressive! Mom can't even get a small cupola made for her garage roof.. your P's did an awesome job! We even have a great weathervane for one -- a Bedlington of course!
Thanks for showing that to us. Your mom and dad are very talented to have built that cupola. We all enjoyed watching it be put on the barn. (I think it was a barn). We wish we were there to share that good sounding soup with you. I bet Maggie had is simmering by the time you got back.

We also didn't know what a cupola was ... it's so quaint and well-made. Congratulations on a great job! It must have been wonderful to participate in making and raising a beautiful piece of architecturelike that.
Shhhhh, we're being quiet in case Maggie is sleeping. That was a pawsome video. You pups always have the best time. We just love reading about them. Mom thinks that you should write a book and include all of the photos and stories from your adventures.
M & M, That is so cool. You guys do some really great community things. I'm glad you discovered some Quebecois delicacies. Mom says poutine is really just junk food, but boy are those melty cheese curds yummy!
That's quite an interesting street you live on, Maggie & Mitch!! We don't have any barns with cupolas where we live.
That's really quite a feat getting that cupola up on that roof. That was nice of your dad to make soup and sausages for everyone. I hope you got to taste some of the goodies since you were at the event!!
The cupola is super cool. Your Mom and Dad do great work! How nice it will be to go down the road and see something they worked on everyday!! I sure hope Maggie enjoyed her cookie!
An army of doggies and hoomans can do ANYTHING! How fun.....just one questions...how come there isn't a dale on the top of the cupola? I rather think that maybe oneo f your profiles would have been a nice addition!
