Tagged Again and Important Info

We got tagged by the Rocky Creek Scotties to open our first photo folder, scroll down to the 10th photo, post that photo and tell the story behind it, then tag 5 more bloggers.

We've already done this tag and we thought it might be fun if we reversed it and go to the tenth folder and post the first photo in that folder!

This is the dollhouse that gram and gramp built and now mom has it! The dollhouse is decked out for Christmas with wreaths and Christmas trees!
And we thought it might be fun to go one more step and post the tenth picture in this same folder!
This is the kitchen - mom's very favorite room in the entire dollhouse! We're not going to tag anyone but if you want to reverse the original tag and play along, please do. It's fun!

We just read some rather disturbing news on one of our Yahoo Airedale groups. We wanted to pass the information along to keep all of you safe!

*Permission to crosspost this message*

Last night at agility class, a vet, who is a fellow agility student was
telling us about a case she had this week. The dog ate a child's teddy bear
and was very sick. When she opened the dog up to remove what she thought was
an intestinal obstruction she found a huge gelatin type mess inside and the
dogs intestines were black and the tissue dead. The dog will die - no surgery
can fix him up - there was no living intestine left from stomach to colon.

This was not an obstruction..... so she called the manufacturer of the Teddy
Bear on a quest to find out what the gel was and what killed the dog. Turns
out the stuffing in children's toys contains ingredients for flame
retardants and mite control! It is designed to be come a gel. It is highly
toxic. Now you would think a child's toy would be safe because it is for
children, but they don't expect a child to eat the stuffing of the toys...
huummmm that seems a bit scary too. But we all know dogs demolish stuffed
toys.

So do not give or buy your dog any children's stuffed animals... some people
get them at goodwill etc. The vet will be posting a warning and story and I
will send any other facts as needed and as I learn more. Maybe some
children's toys do not have this ingredient, but better to be safe then
sorry. So meanwhile, make sure all your dog toys are for dogs. Please pass
this on... it is a horrible death she described and one that can be avoided.

So please, please, please - Keep the hooman stuffies away from us doggies!

So until next time...............

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

  1. That is a most scarey story...we are going through our toy box today and removing the toys we stole from the children. They can have them back.

  2. This is really scary - and I am very leery about 'dollar store' stuffies as well. If my dogs play with one, it is under supervision. The best toys out there in my book are rope toys - I seem to have one in my wash all the time - they last good and clean easily.

I am also afraid of bones, especially since Scotties have such strong jaws and teeth and such large mouths - I am always afraid they will swallow one so I buy Mastiff sized bones and watch those very carefully too. When they get small enough to fit in their mouth, I toss them.

One can never be too careful. Thank you so much for making us aware of this danger.

  4. Yikes! The company that made the teddy bear probably had to use flame retardant material... perhaps there had been a rash of bears bursting into flames?? Leave it to our government to solve one problem, but create more in the process. Are you thinking health care reform? Anyone?

  5. That really is a scary story! We would have thought a toy safe for a child would have been OK.
    Thanks for the warning.
We loved your tag - as you know our mum adores your dollhouse.
The kitchen is just gorgeous - we can see why it is your mom's favourite.
The detail really is amazing. Our mum would love to live in that doll house!
We are not sure if we should tell her that she would never fit!!!

  8. Hello,
I am so glad you shared that story about the teddy bear and I will be sure to pass the information along to others in my area. I've been told to beware of the little white balls found inside stuffed animals as they are toxic but never heard of the gel. No stuffed animals for my cats or for my dogs ever!

  10. Oh, We just luuuv the doll house! It's gorgeous and sooo looks like an old New England home. Perfect!

Mommy is still working on her's, well not at the moment. She almost has it completed once, Victorian style, butt now that we have a little hooman niece, mommy has started over again making it more girly-girly so she can play with it in a few years.

She'll send you pictures if she ever gets it finished???.

  14. Oh what a sad story.. We will definitely keep that in mind. How can they even think of giving those to children? We know they probably wouldn't eat them but that is bad...

  19. Hi Friends!

That doll house is just beautiful! We can see all the care that went into building it.

What a scary story! That is so very sad. We can't imagine the pain that pup must have been in as well as the family that owned him. Thank you for posting it. We sure didn't know that about children's stuffies.

We are not allowed to play with children's stuffies but we do destroys pillows sometimes. Mom will be watching extra close now.

We hope a lot of people read this post!

  26. Hi, Maggie and Mitch!
Thanks for telling us about that!
I am so sorry for that doggie!
As your know, here we can't find dog toys so I have some baby stuffies. I have never destroyed one and I only play with them when my grandparents or my mom are with me. But from now on my family will be very careful knowing about the danger they represent!
    Thanks a lot!

  28. hey kiddos, thanks so much for telling us about this danger! luckily for us, our dumb mom just buys our toys at the dog store, but who would think that a child's toy would be dangerous for us?! we're gonna tell all of our friends!

    woofs.

  29. OMD! Almost ALL of our stuffies were originally kid's toys! I see the distinct possibility that we will have almost NO stuffies by the time the day is over. We don't eat the stuffing, but Mom says you just never know. Thanks for telling us about this!

  32. Jeannie here, oh my that is the most frightening news - and how awful and tragic for the poor dog.

Makes you think - Marvin not so chewy nowadays, gettng older I guess, but thank you for the warning.

Kinda worrying anyway, because this should not be in toys at all. I know children don't eat teddies, but they do kinda tear things up, this gel should be banned.

Again sorry I am late with my commenting, kinda finding it really hard to keep up with all the blogs nowadays!!

  36. Hi
Thanks for the heads up. I will buy kids toys for JAzzi sometimes, but as soon as she gets a hole in it, it goes in the trash. The one I posted about she did while I was gone but that is rare plus that one was a dog toy so that was good. I am careful to watch her with bones too, cuz I am afraid a little piece will get caught in her throat. Love your header picture!!

  38. We love everything about that dollhouse. But the kitchen is very nice. All the details - those copper accents on the walls - just beautiful.

That is a very scary story. We only have stuffies sold for dogs, but Mom still is very careful about them once we manage to get them open. It is also a good reminder for the little bipeds' safety too = who would buy a toy for a child with that scary stuff inside it?
