The worst part of Irene was going out to pee and poo and having to come back inside soaking wet! We told mom we needed her to hold an umbrella over us while we did our business but she only laughed at us and told us that Irene would only blow the umbrella inside out and we'd get just as wet!
This telephone pole is on our property and it was our tree that snapped from the wind and tore down the power lines.
Another tree came down at the other end of our street and took down those power lines too. Falling trees and downed power lines were the biggest problem for hoomans in our area.
Yesterday we cleaned most of the leaves and sticks from the storm. Leaves and sticks are down EVERYWHERE!
Mom's wisteria got damaged and this time the pruning saw came out. :-(
We did have a generator so our refrigerator did stay cold and we did have water and we had pizza 3 times so how tough did we have it?!
At one point, I needed eggs and veges made for my dindin so we borrowed dad's hotplate from his workshop. It took a whole lot longer for water to boil but beggers can't be choosers, right?
We were listening constantly to our battery-powered radio to stay updated and we did have our lemon meringue pie candle going.
We feel so fortunate that all we lost was tree limbs and a couple of lilac trees. So many others didn't fare as well as we did and so many others are still without power! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected.
Please be patient with us as we make the blogging rounds. We are anxious to see what we've missed these last few days!
So until next time...............
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
we are so glad to hear you are safe - hopefully there will not be too much flooding in your area. Are the feathered girls okay too? Hope you renovations made it through all the rain too
ReplyDeleteWoof! Woof! Glad to hear ... most important is you guys are safe. Rest up ... hope the weather gets better. It's tasty Tuesday on my blog today. There's a giveaway. Check it out! Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you are safe, despite the damage. That's all that counts!
ReplyDeleteGlad everybody is ok. I think Lola would have been too scared to go outside and do her business in that kind of weather.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're all okay and your power is back! Mia and I weren't thrilled about going outside with Irene around, either!
ReplyDelete-Corbin
Glad to hear you are safe. We couldn't imagine having to do pee pee in a Hurry Cane
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
Thank dog you have power back on and everybody stayed safe!!
ReplyDeleteRelieved sugars,
Mack
Glad the damage was minimal. Even Sissy announced she wasn't going to potty with that wet stuff BLOWING in her FACE...
ReplyDeleteWe're so very glad that you didn't have any serious damage and all are safe and well. Running outside in a hurricane must be annoying. Even water dogs don't like their water blowing around like that.
ReplyDeleteMorgan, Tsar and the Porties
Oh my you have all been through a lot but luckly you have all come through it quite well.
ReplyDeleteOf course the 3 pizza meals did NOT hurt at all!

ReplyDeleteDewey Dewster here....
Hi Maggie & Mitch, we're sorry that your mom lost some lilac and wisteria. But I'm glad that you guys are all safe. I think that your mom should have gone out there with a big golf umbrella or put rain coats and boots on your guys to keep you dry. Maybe your mom was worried about becoming Mary Poppins and getting carried away by Irene :0
ReplyDeleteWe were worried about you when we saw the news from CT, glad to see you fared well. We are sorry for all the people who had worst damage and ongoing problems due to that Mean Irene!
ReplyDeleteAt my brother's house in Belmar NJ a power line fell down right in front of my sister-in-law's car and barely missed her car! She got lucky but their power went out too. My mom and sister fared well. Mom only had a little water in her basement.
Hugs to you all and so glad you are ok!! xoxo
We're very glad to hear that you are safe and there is just some damage in the garden. It was very scary!
ReplyDeleteWe were happy to be flying home the long route on Saturday to avoid Irene - even if it did mean flying up over Canada and adding a few extra hours to our flight home!
take care

So glad to hear that you're back online and safe. Also, good to know that you didn't have too much damage. Our aunties in RI and VA had power outages and have freezers full of ruined food.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella
We were worried about you as we heard that a lot of CT got hit hard. We are glad you are OK and it sounds like you know how to be prepared for an emergency. We really should have the humans get us a generator too. Too bad about the trees and the wisteria, but so much better than what it could have been. Please take care and don't worry about visiting us - we will be here when your lives get back to normal.
ReplyDeleteWoos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Thank goodness you are all okay. We have been worried. It looks like that hurricane did so much damage in many places. We got absolutely nothing which is good except for the rain we need but we aren't complaining after all of that disasters. Stay safe! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie & Mitch,
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you are safe, but sorry about the loss of trees. We are still laughing about the tomatoes having a boiling hot bath...bol!
xo
We join the others in relief that you and your neighborhood are safe. Those look like big trees. Crummy as it is to be without power, we're glad the trees chose to fall on power lines and not houses!
ReplyDeleteSherry, Alanis, and Miro
Well of course you have a generator. Not us, so momma and master ate all the ice cream in the freezer and did not share. Can you believe it? So glad your estate is OK.

Hi Guys! So relieved to hear you are all safe and sound, what a horrible time - especially that getting wet business! However big bonus on the pizza front ;-) Dex and Lou xxx
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the Wisteria! It will come back very quickly! We have some growning up a privacy wall on our deck. Mom trims it and it seems like just a few days later, it needs pruning again! We are very glad you are all safe and that you have your electricity back! Woohoo for the hot plate and generator!
ReplyDeleteAire-hugs,
Penny & Patches
Glad to see you're safe and the pics look very familiar to our Ike storm. You definitely have the right attitude about how much worse it could have been. Kinda of like camping, huh? Not ideal though...Hugs from Texas!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you didn't get hurt from the storm!!! I worried about you all up there.
ReplyDeleteGod is good!!!
Tom gave up and took Tinker to the vets to have her nails cut!!! She is so hard headed!!

Those are scary pictures to see but I'm so glad that your family is safe! Hugs...
