Date Night

No, it was not date night for us.   It was date night for mom and dad.  They went to go see this movie~
This is the summary from Wikipedia:

The Essex, an American whaleship from Nantucket, Massachusetts, sank after it was attacked by a sperm whale in the Pacific Ocean in November 1820. Having lost their ship, the crew of the Essex attempted to sail to South America in whaleboats. After suffering from starvation and dehydration, most of the crew died before the survivors were rescued in February 1821.
In retelling the story of the crew's ordeal, Philbrick utilizes an account written by Thomas Nickerson, who was a teenage cabin boy on board the Essex and wrote about the experience in his old age; his account was lost until 1960 but was not authenticated until 1980 before being published, abridged, in 1984. The book also utilizes the better known account of Owen Chase, the ship's first mate, which was published soon after the ordeal.
Mom and dad had never seen a movie in 3D before.  You have to wear these nutty-looking Poindexter-type glasses.    If you don't wear them, the movie will look blurry but when you do wear them, they said that the movie is fabulous and so real!
The critics don't give it the greatest reviews but mom and dad really, really liked it.
Their gift to us was these dumb 3D glasses.   What we really wanted was the left-over popcorn but that's not what we got.
Next time you head out to the movie theater, please bring popcorn home instead of geeky specs!

Love,
Mitch and Molly

  12. Our Dad is a huge movie geek - he needs to see this one. But Mom gets a headache at 3-D ones so they would not bring those glasses home. We are going to hope for some popcorn too and we would love to share it with you two.

  14. That sounds like a wonderful movie to me. I really enjoy reading about ships and survival. I just finished 'Dead Wake' about the Lusitania. But, my favorite sea story is 'The Endurance'.
