A Lyme Flair-Up

Saturday, mom and I went for our morning walk and the day went downhill from there.  She was puzzling and I was chewing at my foot, which she didn't know anything about until she caught me limping moving from the bedroom to our living room.   I have been known to chew my foot raw too many times before and mom puffs an antibiotic powder that was prescribed by the vet into the foot and she puts a sock on me and in a few days, I'm good to go.    This time was not the same.   My raw foot got better but the limping did not.  It actually got worse and more painful to the point that I could barely walk.

First thing yesterday, mom called the vet to see if they could fit me in and luckily, they had an opening at 2:30 pm.    This is the first time I'm wearing Maggie's pretty pink harness.  It's not a harness for a strong dog, which I am.  It has a handle at the top so mom could do her best to help me not put so much weight on my sore foot.
The diagnosis is Lyme.   I've had it before and it decided to flair up again.  It's amazing how quickly an injection can work for pain and inflammation and we came home with prescriptions that I will take until they're all gone.    Dr. A retired at the start of this year so I got to meet a new vet.  We really like him.  He's friendly and very thorough and he liked me.
For the past two days, I have had no interest in my tennis ball, which is not like me at all.    Mom knew when I grabbed my ball this morning that I was on the road to recovery.   I can't go for walkies for a few days until the swelling is gone.   If you bigify the photos, you can see that my foot is still very swollen and my ankle area is also very swollen.

Mom and I are both so thankful that I am feeling so much more like myself.

Love ya lots♥

Molly

  11. Chester was diagnosed with Lyme disease recently. He's finishing up a month of daily antibiotics and got his second shot for it today. We're very glad it was caught early. He never had any obvious symptoms, so if the vet didn't include that test in his yearly blood work, we might not have known he had it. We hope all of our blogger friends get their pets tested, and spread the word about it. Hope you feel better soon!
