As far as mom knows, she has never been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant before but people who go, love their food so when she discovered this recipe on FB, she decided to give it a try.
She used ground turkey instead of beef and she only had a pound so she adjusted the rest of the ingredients accordingly.Cheese for me, please!
The aroma coming from the kitchen was making both me and mom nutty! It smelled sooooooooo good!Mom is not a fan of hot meatloaf so she let it cool quite a bit before she cut into it and tasted it. Have any of you ever had a "sweet" meatloaf before? It was very filling and a soft texture and mom wasn't crazy about it. It spent the night in the frig and the next day, she ate it again.Honestly, she didn't like it any better than before. It was still sweet and still soft. Mom grew up never wasting food as it was a rule in her household - if you didn't eat your dinner, you didn't get dessert and you went to bed hungry.
The next day, she spread Poupon mustard on it and it was better and palatable.
Let's just say that she won't be making this recipe ever again. The worst part is that this meatloaf had a bit of shallot in it and I didn't even get to taste it!
Happy Tuesday!
Love ya lots♥

it looks fantastic and the plate makes it extra special... congrats to you and the mama
ReplyDeleteOur mom has the same problem, rules from when she was a kid stick with her and she feels the need to continue to follow them. We dogs don't like sweet potatoes and Mom really doesn't like them so it would not be a recipe for us. Not every new recipe works out as one hopes. Usually your mom has much better luck with new things.
ReplyDeleteCracker Barrel was always the "go to" place on every North/South (and reverse) road trip, of which there were many. But the favorite was "Grandma's Breakfast". Did once choose meatloaf with appropriate sides, enjoyed, but not ever as good as my Dad's! Dad's was perfection on the day of ... the day after at breakfast, at lunch in a meatloaf sandwich and until all gone. Yeah: not soft, nice and firm, and not sweet.

ReplyDeleteOh well, tried, tested, file it away! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
For many reasons, we are not Cracker Barrel fans - but you know how much meatloaf is loved here - thanks for the warning -
ReplyDeleteI'll make sure to have some KHARROT before Mom leaves this morning -

PeeEssWoo That picture was one of Mom's favorites when she saw it on Saturday - she might have even said THAT outloud!
Mama just says no to any kind of restaurant meatloaf...she only likes her own. Cracker Barrel is a place the pawrents stop for breakfast when they are traveling.

Too bad it wasn't very good. The food at Cracker Barrel has gone down hill lately since their new CEO is cutting out the good stuff to save money.
ReplyDeleteMeatloaf is a tough thing to make. There are a million different takes. I'm sorry that this wasn't as good as it smelled.
ReplyDeleteI linked this post to Happy Tuesday.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to Handsome Duke. ♥
I would agree with Mom's taste buds.
ReplyDeleteI don't like sweet or soft meatloaf. It is supposed to be a hearty meal it sounds kinda puny
Not even Grey Poupon could help BOL BOL
