We Won a Donut

Our friends, Emmitt and Melissa had a "Sweets in September" give-away and guess what? 
We were the winners!  whoooooohoooooooooo

Our package arrived in the mail in record time!  Our Puggie friend, Emmitt is 14 years old and for a Senior, he sure is quick!

This is Emmitt!  Isn't he a handsome boy - only he doesn't look like he likes donuts!  Go ahead and take a lick and we bet you'll smile, Emmitt!

We only get donuts once a year in April when dad has his Tour of Barns so we think this is so neat that we have our very own strawberry donut with doggie friendly chocolate frosting and sprinkles!

Emmitt's mom, Melissa made this by hand, which makes it even more special because our mom is new to the crochet world.   Heck, all she knows how to crochet so far are granny squares!

Melissa is a most talented artist!   There is nothing that she can't do! Mom says that she is by far the best Pug artist she has ever seen.

So Mitch - do you choose the donut or the ice cream for your treat?

Good choice, Mitch! That means that I get the yummy donut!

Thank you so very much, Melissa and Emmitt!  We absolutely LOVE our donut!  Mom says it's extra special because it's the calorie-free kind!

We Both Wanna Be Like Mango

You all have heard that Mango is having this really cool contest, right? 

We're in!

I, Miss Maggie, shun stairs just like Mango does!  I've never liked them - not ever in my whole life!  They are a necessary evil!

I'm a very patriotic girl!

We're both patriotic Dales!

And I happen to think that I'm a very snappy dresser!

I love car rides - especially running errands to the bank with mom when I know I'll be getting free cookies!

Mitch is very athletic crossing the bridge from one side of the brook to the other.

And he is very athletic when mom tosses him foodables!

And Mitch is most helpful when it comes to picking tomatoes so that mom can prepare a salad for dindin!

I am a super sweet girl to my Margaret stuffie!  No surgery will ever be required on her!

And I mostly always take my treats gently.

Mitch and I think that the two of us and Mango could surly pass as twinsies!

And the Winner Is......................

Guess where we were last night?

Mom and dad were hungry for Lenny and Joe's so we all took a ride for shrimp rolls and cole slaw!

Dad asked for fries and they hosed us so we decided to hit Durham ice cream to finish off our yummy meal!

Lately, my very favorite part is the bottom of the cone and mom didn't disappoint me! 
Yup, that's me underneath Mitch's chest!  I'll take my cone any way I can get it!  I'm not fussy!

And now the moment you've all been waiting for! 
Mom and Francesca chose the number 42.

And seeing as we didn't get 42 comments, we decided to flip the numbers so 24 is the winner! 

The doggie sitting in the #24 spot is Tank!    Congratulations!

You all know that we have a Mute swan named Dauby.    We used to have a pair of black swans named Buttons and Betty that lived on our pond until someone stole them!  grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 

These are the black pods on our blue false indigo perennial plant.

This is the black discus that went with  dad to the Transplant Olympic games in Wisconsin!

And my least is black!

This is dad's antique pencil sharpener.  Mom says it's kinda fun to use!

Next week's color is lavender!

Wheelie Wednesday - A Snazzy Purple Felted Purse Give-Away

Hi everyone, it's me, Francesca!

Mom used to be addicted to knitting and felting wool purses.  She made so many of them that her wrist required surgery!

You all know that purple is my favorite color and this is one of the purses that she made that never got used or sold or donated. 

Mom and I decided that it might be fun to have another give-away!

So on our trusty MandM calendar we have written a number from 1 to 100.   If you are interested in participating in this give-away, all you have to do is leave a comment and your name will be counted.  Everyone is invited. It doesn't matter where you live!

BTW, this is a long shoulder strap purse - we're not sure that you can see that much of the length and no, Mitch - you may not enter!  You're a boy and purple is not your color!
One more thing - the purse has a pansy button. That's the yellow spot on the front of the bag. 

We'll let the contest run all day today (Wednesday) and all day tomorrow (true colors Thursday) and we'll announce a winner on Friday!

Steve's Barn Raising

We wouldn't know, but mom and dad said that this was one fun barn raising and so much has been accomplished for Steve! 
That's the man of the hour, Steve - with his sunglasses perched on his cap.  And that's dad letting everyone know that Steve has never missed one workshop or barn raising since he's been a timberframer and that includes a lot of workshops and raisings!

Bent #1 is up!

Hey, how come he gets to be there and we don't?  Mom says this English Setter pup is 7 months old and he was a good boy!   Heck, we're good dogs too!

Bent #2 is up and in place and bent #3 is up but needs to be shuffled into it's permanent spot!

Mom said that this car was the cutest one there!

What a flurrie of activity. 
The timberframers are preparing to raise bent #4.

The bent is being carried over by many hands and is hitting the deck to be raised.

Bent #4 is on the way up!  It will need to be shuffled into its exact spot too.

This was the scene just as the guys were breaking for lunch.

Floor joists are going in already and this is only Saturday morning!

Mom left the raising on Saturday afternoon around 2 PM so she could be home to feed us our dindin.  She decided to spend the rest of the day home with us!   awwwwwwwwwwwww

Next day~

It's Sunday morning at 9 AM and this is how the barn is progressing just as mom is arriving. 

Floor joists are in and all of the roof rafters are on and roof boards are going on!  Wow!

At one point, mom and Aunt Marsha took a walk upstairs and found Steve's new workbench in progress.   What a beauty this will be when it's all done!  It will look stunning in his new barn workshop!

Today is a much different day than yesterday was.  It's much cooler and it's cloudy and overcast and there's a chance of showers. 

Around 3 PM a crane comes in to raise the cupola onto the barn roof and shortly afterwards the barn pawty feast begins - steak and baked potatoes and corn on the cob and tons of salads and for dessert, a pear crisp and a chocolate peanut butter pie and a carrot cake and mom is missing it all because she wants to be with us!  Do we have the best mom in the world or what?!

We'll share finished pictures of Steve's project when we head back up there to collect sawhorses and tools.
