We are joining Sunny today for Nature Friday~~
Earlier this week, mom saw a huge deer in our back yard with the longest legs eating apples. It didn't take her long to notice that he had antlers. Mom didn't want to scare him away so no photos were taken. She thought the one below might have been him but this one doesn't have antlers so - nope.
We saw mom and her fawn too~
The fawn is just so darn cute!
Walkies were going along fine. We discovered this mushroom growing on this tree.
Two days later, this is what it looked like~

Wednesday morning, the unthinkable happened. I grabbed a flattened road kill frog and mom told me to "drop it, Duke". I decided not to listen and she had to pull the nasty icky thing out of my mouth and she was most unhappy with me and she made me wear the dreaded head collar~ 
I promise never to grab road kill ever again, mom~
Mom remembers where she was 25 years ago. She and Molly's dad and their first Airedale, Maggie, were just coming home from their morning walk. They went into the workshop to start their day. The radio was on and they couldn't believe what they were hearing. There is a TV in the workshop and they both stood there with their mouths open not believing the horrors they were watching. It was an overwhelmingly tragic day that is unforgettable~
Mom looked it up and it's called Chicken of the Woods and it's edible.
But of course, I was not allowed to take a bite~
We found wild white Asters~
We found purple ones too!

Duke you never want to get a toad in your mouth or a frog. They got a taste yucky. Otherwise we enjoyed your morning walk and seeing what you see. September 11th is a day we'll never forget.
ReplyDeleteHenry tried to grab a dead frog on the road the other day but Mom yanked his leash before he could pick it up. Mom was living in Germany on 9/11. She came out of her class, got into her car to drive home and heard the news. She says she stayed glued to CNN for days trying to grasp what was going on and she was happy she was not in the US at the time.

ReplyDeleteAnd she had a flashback of trying to pull a dead squirrel from one on huskies' mouth - Kyrye snagged one on a walk one time -

I saw a frog this morning in our backyard! I learned my lesson though, and didn't bite it or kiss it (our frogs are toxic). Luckily Sunny didn't see it because she has not learned her lesson!

Charlee: "We weren't around for 9/11, of course, but our Mama and Dada will never forget it. Our Dada was in a meeting in the only room in the building that had a television, and somebody knocked on the door and said they needed the TV, and that was the end of the meeting. And of any work for the rest of the day."

I guess you learned a valuable lesson. ALWAYS keep your eyes and ears alert to Mom...there are consequences that must be paid.

ReplyDeleteDeer are beautiful...from a distance! They are not welcome in some areas, because they eat everything they can find to the ground. (They are want=dering is some residential neighborhoods that back onto more wild areas. One of our unfurbros has pictures of deer resting in his yard!
ReplyDeleteMJF was good at snagging deer doo-doo at any chance he had while on our walks. YUCK! We lLeave the frogs and toads around here alone. but if we find a dead one, they are fun to roll on...
