First of all, we have to thank all of you for the brilliant names that you suggested. Dad has decided that the bolder girl's name will be Margaret - wait, isn't Maggie a nickname for Margaret ;-) and the more shy girl is Carlie.
Remember this picture:
The threesome aren't BFF anymore and they actually didn't stay BFF for long!
Dauby is being a witch to the young girls and it's not making mom and dad happy!
This is Margaret. She is the bolder swan of the two. She pretty much treats Dauby like she's a real pain - which she is!
But she does move when Dauby fluffs her feathers and tries to act like she's all that.
She kind of is seeing as she's been here for a long time and she is a Senior to be respected but she doesn't have to be mean about it!
We understand about the pecking order!
Play nice, Dauby!
That's Carlie. She stays in the background and is most respectful of the girlz but we have to tell ya - she's getting braver. Attagirl, Carlie!
Dauby spotted Carlie going from the grass into the water and she is chasing her to the back of the pond. The pond doesn't end at the trees. It's all boggie up in the back and the swans actually have waterways that they can swim in. It's pretty neat back there but too mucky for hoomans to venture back without wearing hip boots.
This is Margaret enjoying her meal.
When Dauby is finished chasing Carlie she comes back to the front of the pond to keep her eye on Margaret.
There is no bruising or violence happening - it's just a cat and mouse kind of game and because Dauby is older, it's tiring her out trying to keep up with two 2-year olds that want to be her friend and who want to enjoy life.
We're hoping the three girls will work this all out soon!
And now for something much more simple and friendly~
It's me sniffing all of this beautiful lavender!
Time to go inside, mom. I need water!
So until next time................
Love ya lots,
Maggie
I hope they work things out. Those youngsters just need to pay their respects to Dauby, right?
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Mango
Those swans are beautiful! We didn't know they had pack order! They need to lighten up. Maybe you should give them some ice cream.
ReplyDeleteYour friends,
Niamh & Ambrose
That reminds me of when Paris came to live with us - Lilly was a real TOOT! But she's settled down and now they just ignore each other.
ReplyDeleteSugars,
Mack
We're sure that the swans will work it out...they are in a wonderful place and surely will calm down and learn to play nice with one another. Even Teka is almost to that point!
ReplyDeletegussie
They'll get it straightened out - after all Dauby is Alpha - or at least senior to the youngsters. Carrleigh is so tickled that you named one after her - and we love the name Margaret, it's such a goosey name.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh, Ruairi, Ivy and Arlo (who is going home today)
Wow, they are so pretty. Hope they work out the pecking order soon!
ReplyDeleteMuah,
Minnie Moo
Swans are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie and Mitch - all the girls will work it out. It may take awhile but it'll be fine eventually. We have to work things out a bit too. It gets easier as we get older.
ReplyDeleteI don't have much experience with swans, but geese... Well, let's just say if there are ANY similarities, you let those bird-girls work it out on their own!
ReplyDeleteThe swans are beautiful! They will work it out!! They are wonderful to watch! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly
ReplyDeleteYou got more swans ???? How did I miss the post about them, when, where they come from, how long have you had them....so many questions. Yes, they will need to work out the pecking order (or pack order as we doggies call it) Hopefully they will settle down soon.
ReplyDeletewe hope they become BFFS again soon!

Have a good week

ReplyDeleteoh i think you could wrte a wonderful story about your swans!
they are giving you lots of material to work from.
maybe they can have a day on the bloggie like swan saturday!
tee hee!
xoxoxo
Oh man. They are SO beautiful. What happens if you introduce a male into the mix? Would that settle them down or make things worse? Dauby is the queen afterall!!
ReplyDeleteJust like adding a pup to an existing pack, just takes time. Sounds like there is a pack order with swans too. Mom says females have a harder time working out those details than guys do. Ciara says she has no problem, she just does as she pleases:)
ReplyDeleteThe names are beautiful, and so are you, Maggie.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
They are just so lovely aren't they?
ReplyDeleteJust getting the pecking order sorted out. One of these days Margaret and Carlie might realise that there are two of them against one!
