The Annual Pig Roast

Tomorrow is Marlowe's annual pig roast that mom and dad attend and we both got to help mom prepare a salad that she will take with her tomorrow! No, we don't get to go! Bummer!

Mom had to run to the bank this morning and she took us for a ride!

The cashier sent cookies out the drive-in window that looked like Fig Newtons! She assured us that they were dog cookies and boy were they ever yummy! She even sent out a napkin so mom could wipe our faces! The heck with wiping our faces! I love to eat napkins - but this didn't happen! Rats!

Back at home mom got started on the salad. It's called Ramen Noodle Cole Slaw Salad. She diced the cabbage and chopped the walnuts!

She added the slivered almonds and the chives right out of our garden. Next were the broken Ramen noodles - not the beef packets yet - just the noodles today!

She stirred it all around and voila!

It sits overnight in the frig and tomorrow we mix the oil and the vinegar and the beef packets together and pour it over the cabbage and toss it! Pretty simple! We can't wait to taste it!

We sure wish we could go to this pig roast too! We hear the whole pawty is all about eating and socializing and listening to live music! We can do that!

So until next time..............

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

  3. You know, if you can't go to the pig roast, you'll just have to host your own. I'll ask Mommy to make a dessert and I'll bring that.

  6. oooweeee...my mama has a friend that makes the Ramen salad and Ms. Alpha is NUTS over it. Yum

And we have SO much in common. The drive thru bank teller gives me biscuits, too. That's the only time I'm ever allowed to eat store bought snacks. Mom calls 'em doggie junk food....but let's be honest. Sometimes junk food hits the spot!

Let's pray our respective banks stay in business so that we keep gettin' fed!

  9. This salad is one of Motch's favorites, and it must taste extra good with the chives from your garden.

That Fig Newton treat looked heavenly. Just heavenly!

  11. ooohh-PIG. We love those ears-but a whole pig! wow. maybe they will bring you some!!!
Mom has a stoopid question. I, Sunny am sure I know the answer. She says, do you cook the noodles first? (I say yes) But she is not much of a cook. Specially now. She says cooking for one is a pain. (Uh, Mom we would eat it too-duh)

  13. pee ess I read the recipie again. I have changed my mind. Since it sits overnight in the vinegar, you do NOT cook the noodles do you.

  15. You two would be the life of the party. I can't imagine why you have to be left home. What is a pig roast without M+M's. That salad looks yummy.

  16. I sure wish you guys could go too. I would love to hear about how good that pig smells cooking. Hope your mommy and daddy have fun.

  17. Our mom makes a similar salad, too! We should all post our mom's cabbage salad recipes - wouldn't that be fun? The best part about ours is that she toasts the ramen and always ends up dropping some of it on the floor. And THEN it's fair game!

That salad looks delicious, but being british we are not sure what Ramen Noodles are or if we even have them here?? Mum will have to research that!

  20. Maggie and Mitch,

I think that it is cruelty to animals that you are not allowed at the pig roast party. But maybe an entire roasted pig would just be too much of a good thing. Hope they bring home a doggie bag.

    Your friend,
    Niamh

  26. Hi Maggie & Mitch,

I am feeling so much better, thank you! The pig roast sounds like so much good foodies to eat. I am feeling better and I love pork. Mommy was able to get me to eat pork yesterday, she makes the yummiest pork tenderloin, she poors Dale's seasoning over it and wraps it in bacon and bakes it for a few hours and it just melts in your mouth..droolicious!
    Kisses,
    Sami

What a bummer, no pig roast. Is there a way to sneak in? Can you hide in the back of the car? If you do, send us some, it sounds really yummy.

  30. M&M, Your mom is pretty talented to make a salad that takes two days to make! It sounds yummy-well for me it does but my mommy doesn't eat meat-is there a vegetarian version for her??

Sorry you can't go to the party tomorrow...but I bet you guys get something! Hey the cookies were pretty special! I'm going to have to tell mom to take me to the bank-but we don't have drive-thru's here!!

  31. Hi, Maggie and Mitch -

The bank where Mama and Papa go also gives me (Hershey) treats - but not salmon ones. Papa likes taking me to the bank with him.

We like the expressions on your face when you get to sample something. Mama laughs because that happens to us when we get tio try something delicious. Have a good weekend.

    Love -

  38. How fun - I used to be a bank teller, and I often worked in the drive through. I would buy my own doggie treats to send out to all the dog-clients that would drive through. I even had some regulars. I also had clients that I knew had doggies at home, so I would always give them a bone to take home to their pals. I'm glad you have a nice teller over there who loves the doggies as much as I did.
