Baking Quick Breads With Mom

We have another barn workshop coming up this weekend and mom and I decided to bake a couple of quick breads for all of the good helpers we will get at Steve's workshop!

About a week ago, we got a box in the mail from our dear friends, Cathy and Frank.  Frank stayed with us for an entire week and the pressie was a thank-you gift but we're the ones that need to thank Frank because he helped us TREMENDOUSLY for that entire week when we had the Crump barn raising!

Mom is just in love with her new loaf pan!
Not only did Cathy and Frank send this beautiful loaf pan that's the most perfect autumn color but they sent us a mix to bake in the loaf pan!
A ready-made mix is a real treat for mom!  She usually bakes everything from scratch!
Yup, it gets my stamp of approval!
The next quick bread is an apple quick bread.
The recipe reads:

Mix together in a medium sized-bowl, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, a sprinkle of mace, 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom, 2 1/2 Tablespoons of sugar and 4 apples that have been peeled and chunked up.
Do any of you grate your own nutmeg like mom does?
It sure does smell wonderful!
Mitch is going to be so disappointed that he chose to head to Crump's with dad because mom is chunking up apples and I get one! haha

This one passes my taste-tester too, mom!
Into the oven it goes!  Pay no attention to mom's dirty oven that desperately needs to be cleaned but who wants to self-clean an oven in this nasty summer heat?!
Now we just have to let them cool, wrap them up and into the freezer they go till they are needed for the workshop this coming weekend!
So until next time............

Love ya lots,
and the missing Mitch, who is going to be so upset that he missed all of these yummy tastes!

That sure is a pretty loaf pan. Something that special must make baking even better. Pretty going in. Yummy and pretty coming out.

Now. We know OurGirl would ask. Are those apples from your tree? She was meaning to pick one, even if it WAS green. And she forgot. (Sigh)

  20. What a beautiful loaf pan! i bet it looks good with the Dutch oven you showed us awhile back!

  22. Yummers, that makes us very hungry - bet those breads are tasty. Mom can't wait for new crop apples to arrive here. Everything she buys in the store has a terrible taste - we think she is going apple picking over Labor Day - we'll save some for you and Mitch.

  23. All the homemade goodies look so yummie!

  24. hi maggie and mitch- you're in CT!! That means your close by. I think we can be friends - my Maggie loves your mom's art- she thinks the way your mom paints is really cool. Can we be friends?
    Sniff Sniff?

  25. There must be a lot of barns in your area!

  26. Yummmmmerzzzzzzz! That looks so good!
    Play bows,

  27. That looks so yummy! My mom person plans to make some zucchini chocolate chip bread tomorrow. I can't wait to try it.

    Hugs & love,

  28. Hi Maggie and Mitch,
Yes I grate my own nutmeg!! Doesn't everybody?? It tastes so much better than the nutmeg you get already grated!!! We use a great deal of spices and grow a lot too and use them!!
    Good job Sue!!

  29. That looks awfully good! And we thought "Quick-Bread" was an oxymoron.

Buster's a bread connoisseur, having eaten several Tuscan loaves off the counter. The only think he likes better is swordfish steak--once he latches on, he clings to it like a white shark.

  30. I don't know how you stay so svelte - every time I see you you're getting a treat! :)

  31. hi m & m!
oh we just love it when your mom bakes!
    m & e

  32. That loaf pan it totally beautiful! Mom has great taste! Am thinking of making the apple quick bread until 'mace' and 'cardamom' got me. Hahaha... Oh well, I'll find out. Oh, grating nutmegs? My fingers are too clumsy to do that! Wahahaha!
