Crumps

For the past few days our dad has been involved in dismantling an antique barn. He's been getting up earlier than usual and missing our morning walkies so he can spend a long hard day at Crump's taking down this barn. He doesn't even return home to eat lunch with us! Mom packs his lunch so he can spend the whole day there! We miss our dad!

Yesterday, dad called mom and asked her to run a change of clothes over to him so mom packed what dad had asked for and we jumped in the car and took a ride over to make our delivery and see how the project was coming along!

When we got there, there were barn swallows flying around everywhere! Gosh, no wonder! What happened to the roof??!! Apparently nests got disturbed. Oops!

Dad said that bats got disturbed too - HUNDREDS of them! Mom was so glad she wasn't there to see bats flying around everywhere! YUK!

The rest of the roof will come off and timbers will start to come down! Our friend Captain Bwob (originally from the great state of Massachusetts) send us these photos. You're inside looking up!
Half of the roof rafters are gone in this picture!

Dad says this barn was built in the early 1800's, which is not old to a lot of you living across the pond, but here in the United States, that's old to us! Once all the timbers are down, they'll be washed and repaired! This barn is going to be saved and restored and will go back up in Crump's yard but farther back away from the road from where it now stands.

The barn will get new rafters and new siding! Mom and dad will be involved in this project for probably a whole year. Here's the lastest picture! These boys are movin'!

So until next time.................

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

  2. Wow... 1800's... that barn is actually as old as Singapore. Singapore was only found in 1819.

You dad must be really proud to be in such grand project.

I like the paint colour - like your doors a sort of shaker red..My house is older than the barn. Eeek! Hope they don't take it down to wash and repair it while I'm in it!!

Don't worry your daddy will be back soon to take you for lots and lots of ice cream soon. Now about those blueberry treats.....

  20. That is really cool that your dad is recycling that old barn! Around here, they just let them rot until they fall down, but they won't even let anyone have any of the old lumber. Stupid peeple! I sure hope it isn't as hot there as it is here. Your dad would melt!

We have a bat house, but there are only a few bats living in it (just enough to eat our squeetos).

Glad you at least got to visit him at work.

Dismantlement and washing the barn are very interesting.
The place where an old tree can be used is used again.
To tell the truth, I like to see the house is built as for ume tyan.
The history from 1800 is restructured. :)

  31. What a cool project. H-Mom loves old barns. They are very interesting. They just moved a house in Fort Lauderdale from its original location to a new lot in a park. It's a historic building - built in 1916 it was one of the first in Fort Lauderdale. This isn't a very old city AT ALL! Check out the story at http://www1.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI92360/ if you are interested.

What a huge project your Dad is doing. But it will look totally pawsome when it is done.

Bats, did you say bats? YIKES! Hundreds of bats flying around sound a lot worse than getting sprayed by a skunk.
