A Christmas Gift from Sally

We got a Christmas pressie in the mail on Friday! It was from our friend, Sally, who lives in France!
Sally was our hostess for the Project Wichteling.
She told us that she had a chat with Santa and he said that it was okay for her to send us a parcel. Thank you so much, Sally! You did not have to do this, ya know!
Who are we kidding! We love pressies!
A squeaky basketball! This looks like it's just my size! Somehow I think Mitch is thinking the very same thing! Is this a doggie shish kabob? We've never had these before! How very yummy they look and there are two in here so we don't need to fight over them, Mitch!
A rope ball! We all know how much you love your rope toys, Mitch, but it is pink, ya know!
OMG, check out this bone, Mitch! There are 2 of these too! This will give us something to do while we're supervising mom and dad in the workshop today!
Thank you so very much, Sally! We are totally blown away by your generosity! You are too kind!

Sally even sent mom a pressie! We have to be honest here. Mom had no idea what it was or what she was supposed to do with it so we googled it!

Foie gras is a popular and well-known delicacy in French cuisine. Its flavour is described as rich, buttery, and delicate, unlike that of a regular duck or goose liver. Foie gras is sold whole, or is prepared into mousse, parfait, or pâté (the lowest quality), and may also be served as an accompaniment to another food item, such as steak. French law states that "Foie gras belongs to the protected cultural and gastronomical heritage of France."

The technique of gavage dates as far back as 2500 BC, when the ancient Egyptians began keeping birds for food and deliberately fattened the birds through force-feeding. Today, France is by far the largest producer and consumer of foie gras, though it is produced and consumed worldwide, particularly in other European nations, the United States, and China.

Mom, get out the fine china for this! This is quite the delicacy! Wow! This is going to be very tasty! You'll be sharing with us, right, Mom?

Thank you so much, Sally! We were not expecting this and it was a totally wonderful surprise and most generous of you! Your Project Wichteling was a lot of fun and we hope you have it again next year! Consider us "in"!

Take a look at us! We're getting ready to board Sally's bus!
So until next time................

Love ya lots,

Maggie and Mitch

  26. How appropriate, your Christmas presents from Europe arrived on the 25th! BOL as for the Foie Gras, I was wondering if Sally would like you to have it mixed with your kibble (because it's so rich).

  30. Thank you for the information, Foie gras is terribly expensive at where we live! I sort of wonder how mummy is going to prepare it. =P

Now Mitch, stay cool and still while the toys get loaded, I know you'll do better. =)

  32. Hi Maggie and Mitch,

How wonderful! It's still Christmas? How come we didn't know that?

Santa was way better to you guys then he was to us and we know him personally! Mommy says it's because you are better behaved doggies then we are.

    Bone-it-pet-teet!!! to your mommy.
    Luv,
    Riley and Star.

  33. Wow. You must be the only dogs on earth to sample foie gras! At least I hope you did. I can't imagine how delicious that must be mixed in kibble! Are you sure Sally sent that for your mom?

  35. What fantastic presents you got and that foie gras! The NSLM's family love foie gras - something to do with living in Belgium for five years where it is always eaten on special occasions. It is one of the things they miss about being back here in Ireland - you can get some here, but never the same varieties and so much more expensive. Hope you like it.

    take care
    Clive

  36. What a great way to wrap up Project Wichteling! Sally made such perfect choices!!! For everyone!!! Moma remembers enjoying foie gras in Belgium, when she lived there, just like Clive mentioned above! Such a very special celebration!

    Enjoy!

  39. More pressies?? Sheesh... you lucky Dales, that looks like oodles of fun.

Pinkie is not sure about the foie gras thing and encourages everyone to gooogle how it's made and what it entails for the animal. There will certainly be none of that ever in our house so we'd be interested to see what your mum thinks of it...
