Daisy and Donald

We have two new duckies on our pond! Their names are Daisy and Donald and they're Rouen ducks. Rouen's look sorta like Mallard's. The ducks belonged to Ross's two kids, Taylor and Austin. Ross is one of dad's pilot friends that was going to fly Sunshade here to spend the day with me and Putter. So far these plans haven't gotten off the ground so to speak!
Anyway, Taylor and Austin got these ducks for an Easter gift back in April. They came from Murray McMurray Hatchery and were just a day or so old! Imagine how adorable they were and how tiny! These kids raised these 2 ducks, with the help of their parents all by themselves and they took awesome care of them! The duckies adopted these two kids as their mom and dad and they followed them everywhere! They slept in a cardboard box at night and Ross bought Daisy and Donald their own pool to swim in. They've been growing like weeds and they've now outgrown their duckie pool and they need a pond to swim in so they asked us if Daisy and Donald could come live here. Of course we said yes - the more the merrier!
So this morning they brought them down and put them at the edge of the pond to get acquainted with our duck family.
Our resident ducks actually weren't too welcoming and maybe this was a good thing seeing as these 2 youngsters have never been in a BIG pond before.
Daisy and Donald eventually did get more comfortable and they did go into the water and gobbled up some yummy green pond algae.
Before too long they were back on land and that was the last of the pond!
It wasn't too much longer that Taylor and Austin kissed the duckies good-bye and headed for home! The two feather brains adopted mom immediately as their mother and dad as their father!

I'm trying to tell them that this is our mom and she doesn't want feather kids - only furkids!
Even Mitch isn't happy with the two new additions! We just want to chase them! The duckies sorta just hung around all day under the shade tree watching our every move until it was time for us to come inside. Dad was leary of leaving them outside overnight just yet so he put them in a cardboard box inside the barn with food and water. Hopefully they get more comfortable tomorrow!

The duckies were more nervous around Mitch than they were around me! I wonder why?

Can you guess what Mitch is chewing on? It's a swan feather! hehehehe Can you blame them!

Until next time...................

Love ya lots,

Maggie

Are you sure Donald & Daisy didn't escape from Disneyland or sumthing and try to seek refuge in your home? :)

  12. OK, I'm totally confused. First you say the ducks are ruined, then you say the kids took good care of them. WHICH IS IT? We'd chase those ducks all day if it wasn't so hot!

  14. Yeah, I can't blame the two duckies of being scared of him. Oh gosh, I hope he didn't ACTUALLY kill the swan. Where did he get that feather from anyway? Poor fella... But I think if I saw them two, I would chase them too!

  27. I've seen some ducks before and some geese. The geesers fly over my house in the fall making all kinds of racket and interupting my peace and quiet! I'm pretty sure if I got close to a duck I'd try to maul it. Sorry. They were cute though!
